Yeah, I really like this car, maybe I've more luck next time.

Are you fan of Herbert? iirc the 1998 Sauber you talked about was with him as driver, too.

Officially out of my range for all auctions :';( , with 3 others (2 being GTR cars) at my limit with 5 days to go:

Minichamps 1:18 -
- Karl Wendlinger Sauber C12 1993
- Mika Hakkinen MP4/12 1997
- Karl Wendlinger Sauber C13 1994
- Andrea de Cesaris Sauber C13 1994 200th GP

Keeping to a budget can be frustrating!

Yeah, but when you get one for a low price that usually goes for several times more it's satisfying.

Half decent die-casts are really quite expensive at e best of times and many eBay listings put the starting price up way too high. Over £100 for a 1:43 model? Sod that! I don't want to spend that much on a 1:18.

So I'll play the long game and bide my time on listing by sellers with more realistic expectations. Over the last year I've got some really quite collectable examples. That BMW Williams I got usually asks for £30 at least even for 1:43, I won my 1:18 for £18.

The Senna taxi-ride with Mansell usually attracts a premium, I paid under £20 and anything remotely limited edition automatically slaps £x on the asking price.

I know these things are collectable, but I do feel that many try to really overprice them. They're not quite irreplaceable antiques quite yet :P

Yeah you've just got to play the waiting game, I won 2 particulalry good deal in 2011

I lucked intowinning a 1/43 Alonso Minardi PS01, and you sometimes see these go for £90, I got mine for just over £20

Also nabbed a Vettel STR2 China for £45, and that goes for around the same price as the Alonso car sometimes

It's really crazy how expensive these models have become...

I had more luck today, got a Schumacher B195 1:43 for 13€ :)

I have models like this from 1991(Mansell, Alesi, Schumacher), 1993(Senna, Alesi), 1994(Schumacher, Hill) and 1995(Herbert). All 1:43. I'll maybe take photos of them and post them up here when I've got more spare time.

i missed a couple of bargains today, all because i was out and my mobile connection wasn't quick enough. Great deals do come to those who wait, but sometimes I don't have the patience. Looking forward to receiving a Minichamps Jordan 192 and the new Vettel RB7 from Germany :)

Yep, gotta love Johnny

Nurburgring 1999 will I think forever be my favourite F1 race

I was looking at the Senna Taxi model I received, and it appears someone has tried to partially convert it to tobacco - even though at Silverstone it was a non-tobacco Grand Prix.

Here's a shot of one I got last week, the Minardi PS05.

It's one of my favourites too, simply for the insane number of twists and upsets. I remember it for Hakkinen's pathetic drive to 5th as well, which ironically worked out sweetly for him in the title battle. Herbert's win actually didn't amuse me though - Rubens was the driver I wanted to see winning for Stewart after the job he'd done that season, and Ralf deserved that win the most after the way he'd driven all race. Ironically the unluckiest driver in the field ended up taking one of the luckiest wins ever.

One thing I really, really miss in Formula 1 is the camaraderie between Jackie Stewart and Rubens Barrichello. It was impossible not to cheer for Stewart GP, that 97-99 period was the reason I became a Rubens fan and was disappointed to see Jackie leave.

Anyone want a guess at what I won a 1:18 Williams FW19 for?

Nope you'd be wrong.

£3.22

I have purchased the regular sister DC McLaren to match my 1997 Hakkinen 'Black Star' Edition.

The Irvine Jordan 195 is also a real beauty - with the Marlboro decals added too.

And finally to my new year hunt, the Jordan 197.

All at 1:18.

Next on my quest... a Benetton!

Jenson drives it like he owns it; Lewis drives it like he stole it
