Traditionally Vader Trophy threads have lived in the off topic section of this forum. Don't know why, but I'm a traditionalist so here it is again :)

The VT crew are getting ready for their 7th season of GPL action. If you've heard the stories from the first few seasons, I can assure you things have improved! We still get mass pileups once in a while (as every league does) but usually the racing is very clean and the leaders within 10 seconds of each other when that black and white flag flies.

There's a good lineup of drivers for the new season but there are some spaces for anyone who fancies a go. All we ask is you're a respected member of this forum (VT is a community thing, we race for fun and have a laugh), have a copy of GPL and can drive it. We don't ask that you can drive really quick, more than you can control the things and wont do anything silly :) We race on Wednesday evenings at 8pm UK time (for the first few races that's GMT+1, then it will be just GMT). The races are usually 30 mins qualifying followed by a 40 min race, except the sprint races which are 15 mins qualifying, 20 min race, single lap qualifying, 20 min race.

If you fancy joining send me a PM and I'll see what I can do :)

So you know what you're letting yourself in for, the calendar is:

Round	Date Track
1	2007-08-22	Mexico
2	2007-09-05	Montjuic Parque - Sprint A
3	2007-09-05	Montjuic Parque - Sprint B

My computer currently has no motherboard otherwise I would be interested, so if it gets fixed anytime soon i'll let you know. When does the season start?

On a side note - is it true that someone patched gpl so that the maximum track length boundary was gotten rid of/extended and then used this to make a proper full size version of the manx tt track? I remember hearing something similar at least.

Also, what is the "tyre physics" bug of the original 67 game (apparently fixed in mods?).

I'd quite like to join in. I have a motherboard as well. ;)

However no copy of the game. Is it still for sale or would I have to trawl the bay?

Pfft McLaren won't be worth that by the time Max has finished with Ron.

I'll pretent you've read my post in full ;)

That is correct! It's been cracked, but I don't know, or haven't heard anything at least about the Isle of Mann being released. I know someones working on it but I expect it'll take a loooong time to make.

The 67 cars feel like you're driving on ice because the low speed tyre grip is wrong. High speed is OK though. The mods basically get around this problem so the cars drive much more realistically, and are actually easier to handle because of it too.

I'm surprised every single time when people say 'this and that physics are wrong', yet they have never even touched the car in real ;)

Oh @#$%& haha sorry yer I have now :D Okay so I have till end of august. If they haven't sent back me motherboard by then (bloody asus, and the cheek of making me pay to get it repaired when it's under warranty) then i'll be rather pissed off to say the least. It's been ages already lol.

Thanks for the answers glyn.

Also, for Marc: [www.mastertronic.com]

It includes all the official patches too so there's less fiddling.

Thanks Daniel. I've agreed to buy it from Muks though.

This is a pretty well established fact within the GPL community, backed up by statements from team mechanics that actually worked on the cars during the 1967 season.

It's only after we've lost everything, that we are free to do anything.

Disregarding whether or not it's the most realistic racing game - it's certainly one of the most fun.

It was the most realistic racing game, but a lot of things have passed it since. Then again, a lot of things haven't. It's more than it's just great fun, and the only sim we have that'll simulate the cars of this era well.

Just a quick warning to anyone interested, before you apply take a day to drive. If it feels alright, apply, but practice even more because for GPL you need to know how the car handles under different situations and the most important thing is being able to control the car, even if at lower speeds than others.

I made the mistake of getting into VT even before buying GPL and unfortunately never had the time to dedicate myself to the level this game deserved. Ask Glyn, he'll tell you how big of a mad enthusiast I was ;)
