Do you have desktop composition disabled for the CSM process?
Some people say CSM(core) or TSM(core) needs to run with admin privileges or other compatibility flags, but that isn't the case.
The latest version doesn't need those settings.
Try to right click those four processes and check if all compatibility settings are disabled.

If you still have those problems afterwards, feel free to contact me on msn or via mail so we can nail the issue.

Hmm, based on your inspirational answer I've been Googling away and I think I've found most of the drivers I need (all except the Firewire which I don't use on this machine). Got my copy of Windows 7 Ultimate this week, can't wait to install it for playing GP4 at the weekend which will please the wife no end... ;)

Can I ask if you had to do anything special to install and run GP4 on your 64bit XPS machine (bearing in mind you're inestimably more tech savvy than I!)?

Hi Zaz, I've followed your advice and managed to cobble together all the drivers for my XPS. Now running GP4 on W7 Ultimate x64. Works like a dream!

Thank you so much! (D)

Here is the original download page for Explorer Suite, if needed.

Could you put this up again on mediafire? I have updated to Win 7 64 bit and would like to try it out.

I dont understand why the reducing the .exe should make the PO decrease:-o
I thought it has to be with how many meshes there are, graphic detail and so on.
Am I miss understanding?

@Landex
The game was built for x86 executables which could not handle more than 2GB virtual memory.
The aim is to patch the .exe to let the game have 4Gb on x64 platforms, which reduce the PO.
With tracks, cars, mods and others graphics updates, it is a required step in GP4 installation, once all the previous steps have been done (official patch, gp4Nocd, GpxPatch, CSM, Gp4Tweaker)

I have never had a PO above 65% during a race (sometimes, a little bit over 100% when starting a race, decreasing quickly once the cars are leaving their start positions) and close to 90% on a few specifics tracks when approaching the pit stand. I am using lods_0 only for cars, wheels, helmets etc... Most of the time, I am between 35% - 55% with full graphics on and HD textures.

There are 2 ways to patch gp4.exe:

1- By using the 4GB patch: [ntcore.com]
- Just put the patch into your main Grand Prix 4 folder and apply it on the gp4.exe

2- Manually, using CFF Explorer: [ntcore.com]

- Open gp4.exe file
- Click on File Header
- Into Characteristics section: "Click Here"
- Tick the case "App can handle more than 2Gb adress space"
- Click on OK and save the gp4.exe file

Is this patch safe to use if you are using a system with only 4GB of ram?

Dumb question - but how do you "apply" it?

How do make this work with CSM? I've followed option 2 but csm says that I have modified gp4.exe file

Hello friends!

To force CSM to accept a modified exe i did this:

Put the modified exe in (mod folder)... data\swap

and edited the swap.ini file at (mod folder)... settings like this

[Swapfiles]
File1 =swap\1991.gps,MenuData\PC\GP2001\GP2001_English.gps
File2 =tweaker\gp4tweak.dll,gp4tweak.dll
File3 =tweaker\gp4tweak_%tweaker%_%visor%.ini,gp4tweak.ini
File4 =tweaker\gp4tweak_data.ini,gp4tweak_data.ini
File5 =tweaker\gp4tweak_%tweaker%_%carscfg%_%drops%.bin,gp4tweak.bin
File6 =swap\cars.wad,cars.wad
File7 =swap\GP4.exe,GP4.exe

Is this correct? Game launches but i really saw no difference. I have a highend pc.

Thank you all!

Just copy the file remove2gblimit.cap into the data\patch directory of your mod and CSM will do the rest!

Hey guys, I'm having a high PO issue after switching to Win 7 (x86 version). My PC specs are all the same (AMD Athlon ll X4 640, GTX 650 TI), but when I was on XP the game was running smoothly and I had PO issues ONLY while playing the high-textured modern mods. Now at Win 7 I have 80-100 PO rasing to 200 sometimes WHILE USING DEFAULT CARS.WAD :-(
I tried patiching .exe according to Excalibur's post, but it had 0 effect on high PO issue. Any help would be highly appreciated.

Well, as stupid as it sounds, this "solution" actually works.
I have another copy of the game installed in the separate folder with the much heavier cars.wad and it runs smoothly. Now, having renamed the bugged "Grand Prix 4" folder wilth the default cars.wad to "Grand Prix 4 bugged" made it run smoothly as well, but if I rename it back to "Grand Prix 4" it starts to give me microfreezes again. While the other copy (with the heavier cars.wad) runs fine no matter how its folder is called. This is by far the most stupidest and strangest bug I've ever seen playing this game.

Soutsen alt tab out of game, and go to task manager, do you have a run32.dll taking up one core completely?
