Hi

I know there are many csm mods for gp4, is it possible to play with my own name and helmet when playing these gp 4 mods?

Yes of course it is.
Open the Settings folder, open the globalvars file. Look for the varnames, delete a name and re-insert your own. Open the Data/Patch folder, alter the csmperf. Open the Data/Helmets folder, alter the helmet config file to suit by again renaming. Rename the relevant driver helmet sub-folder to your name as well. Replace the contents of that folder with your helmet tex files, correctly named as well. If you have done it right, your helmet and name will load in-game instead of the original mod helmet etc. The same can be done for the driver and helmet gpi's in the TeamArt folder if you like so your helmet will appear in the in-game driver selection menu. Have fun with it. :-)

mortal, there is a much easier way if you play with CSM ;)

- open csm
- go to "extra stuff"
- go to "profile"
- add a profile, enter your name, select your helmet, ...
- "save"
- go back to "load and restore mods"
- right click on the mod you want to play
- select "enable custom profiles"
- right click again on the mod
- select your custom profile
- click "start" to start your mod!

yes, i've never been able to choose a helmet via profile.
i think Tony explained it once, but if i recall correctly helmet has to be in some other format and a certain size ?Gpi?
so how to use a helmet via profile is still somewhat of a mystery to me too.
if someone gave step by step explanation it'd be apprecciated.
just found tony's post:
Right click on a mod and select 'Enable custom profiles' then choose the profile you want to use.
If the image is 256x256 and .gpi format it should be ok
.
so you have to batch your helmet to gpi and then put it where exactly in the mod?
thanks in advance.

No, the .gpi picture is the one that appears in driver's selection, so it could be one of yourself :D
The helmet has to be two textures (must be compatible with the shape used in the mod), one for the top and the visor (helmet_2) and one for the rest (helmet_1), at least this goes for the arai 2006 shape. Select the textures in the profile editor in CSM.

gpi files live in the team arts folder. Create with Slimtex from a 256x 256 bmp.
To create a tex, use the slimtex batch to tex function with your tga's.

256 x 256 are for driver pictures.

Other team arts have different sizes.
