it doesn't matter, you don't need to rename anything - CSM does it for you :)

You will need to edit the performances in the performances folder.

You're second problem, I'm not sure - it could be an unknown bug.

do you have to run the game through CSM

if so how do you do that after the files have been put into the correct folders

Hi,

I'm new to GP4 and am stumbling at the first hurdle.
I have a clean install of GP4 and the only Mod I'm using is the 2009 Empty Mod (+ fix), with CSM.
On first run all the pit order seems messed up and most of the cars are using the mclaren texture????
Can anyone help ?

LOL, it's an EMPTY mod, there are no cars in it!

Which you can Use over the default install with the original cars and tracks........Only they're not in order...I have installed some 2009 cars, wheels helmets etc...which work fine, but the other cars aren't defaulting to they're own textures. I still want to be able to play the game as I gradually add 2009 data to the "Empty" Mods folders.

I'm new , but laughing and stating the obvious doesn't really help anyone.

Sorry, I misunderstood your post. I'm not sure if you can actually do that. CSM needs the cars in all of the folders to update the wad doesn't it? I think your problem is because you are trying to load the wad partially. The order is set by the ini files I'd say, if they are incorrect it will load incorrectly. In the cars folder is a config.ini, it sets the loading order for the cars.
I found it easier to download an 09 mod. There's a few available, quite good too. Here's a thought, do another installation of GP4, run that one till your empty mod is complete. :-)

Yup good call.....downloading a Spanish 2009 mod now, should make updating the files a lot easier As I can see where all the files need to go, good place for a noob to start :)

Good luck with it, btw, I'm a total n00b with GP4, I really have no idea what I'm talking about half the time. ;-)

Uhh oh guys I have a situation.

It's about the pitcrews. Needless to say it won't work. I tell you what I've done so far.

First of all I've read the readme.txt of the excellent 2009 Empty Mod. It reads:

" ANIM =====================================================================
Put the pitcrew files into Data\Anim\Hi\Melbourne with filenames:
engin_TEAMNAME.tex
pitcrew_TEAMNAME.tex "

So I renamed all the files (e. g. engin_arrows.tex to engin_rbr.tex) and put them in the appropriate folder. Nothing. Okay I found another post here in this topic to either put them in the Sakhir folder instead of the Melbourne one or change track in the Default.ini file back to Melbourne. Proceed, nothing. Okay I found that in the Default.ini it reads:

" Engine1 =%pitcrewres%\%default%\engin_%team1%.tex,%pitcrewres%\(%team1%%tracknum%)\engin_%team1%.tex,%pitcrewres%\%trackname%\engin_%team1%.tex "

But in the CSM.ini in the Settings folder it is:

" [Carslots]
Team1 =%team01%
Team2 =%team02%
Team3 =%team03%
Team4 =%team04%
Team5 =%team05%
Team6 =%team06%
Team7 =%team07%
Team8 =%team08%
Team9 =%team09%
Team10 =%team10%
Team11 =%team11% "

So I've changed the %teamX% parts to %team0X% and... Nothing. It won't work. So I changed them back.

What should I do now?

Sounds ok, and good on you for trying things out :) Maybe your default anim.wad is not clean? Try replacing that with a default one.
Or, are you using Std and Lo also? If you've only got them in Hi and don'r have High selectedin configurables it won't load them.

Thanks for the reply.

Yep I have also taken care of the texture resolution too. I have stuff in Hi and Std folders and I'm using Std.

Another interesting thing. I have disabled auto restore in CSM and have taken a look at the GP4 folder. It says my anim.wad have been updated as I clicked 'Start' in CSM - but it is still 8 319 KB big. I think this is the exact size of the original file too. I have extracted it to a folder and it has the original .tex files despite the update.

I honestly do not know what's wrong. :(

Maybe it has something to do with the pitcrew files... I have downloaded them awhile ago from a topic here. It's private stuff. Maybe I will start looking for another version of the 2009 pitcrews.

Another round of trial and error.

I replaced my anim.wad with the original one though it did not seem to be corrupted but you'll never know. (I have a clean install of GP4 too just in case ;) and the original anim.wad has been modified on 2002.06.02)

Also I tried to run the pitcrews on Hi resolution.

And after Monza loaded and I chose 'Leave the Pits' little Felipe had to look into the face of the good ol' McLaren buddy back from 2001 again. :(

Okay this is starting to get really annoying. :@

One last idea was to replace the .tex files with another version. This time around I downloaded Pitcrew 2008 by Fongu from GP4 Database and did the necessary renames (in fact just one: engin_fi.tex to engin_forceindia.tex and the pitcrews similarly). After that I downloaded a one-off Brawn pitcrew and tried it with this set.

Aaaaand. You guessed it. Won't work.

I hereby tender my resignation. :p

Is your CSM up to date? I remeber the anim wasn't working too well but Zaz sorted it so maybe you need an update?
Disabling auto restore probably isn't good to do. If you want uncheck Quickstart, then you can take a look at the wads without loading the game, once CSM is done, and GPxPatch is open

Yes everything is up to date. To the stable versions at least.

Nothing. It's the same.

Okay guys I think I'll just leave it for awhile. Big thanks for the ideas unfortunately they were useless in this case but that's not your fault.

Last thing I think is the ultimate problem-solver: the mighty reinstall. But before I'll do it I want to make a complete .cuh file from the my updated 2009 Mod - but with a proper MP4/24. This is the last car which is missing a proper carshape so I think I'll wait for Soulbringer to finish his job.

Thanks again for your help.
