Nice. If you still use Blender, how are you making the tyres look like that compared to how I have them in my render scenes?

You're using the ones I sent you, including the jpg textures? I use these shader & settings
Tread: [i.imgur.com]
Rim: [i.imgur.com]
Sidewall: [i.imgur.com]

You might have to adjust specular and roughness a bit, depending on your light settings. For the rim you could also experiment with changing the metallic value.

Is that your own render Marie? It's stunning.

Rimbolt with own shader, no longer sharing the metallic one for the rim

Fantastic job Tobi, the tyres are looking perfect now. Only the cockpit visor looks a bit odd.

It's a hell of a work, but love to see a re-doing of all the car liveries in the gpgsl history with this scene.

One hell of a difference if you compare it to my first one from half a year ago on page 124. Agree about the visor, might have to look for a tutorial to properly understand the settings for glass like materials.

Actually thought about it. Might do them all in 1280x720 this time, still big enough and would save some time.

Indeed a massive improvement, Tobi. It's fascinating how quickly you got into things. If I compare that to my first renders from years ago ... *ducks in shame*

The other side of the medal is that elements like the floor mirroring and matt car reflections take a lot of time to render. So, reducing the size of the picture is always a good start. Honestly, I render those pics that are meant for presentation purposes here in the forum in only 1024x576 by now, which is 1:1 to how they're presented here. The tiny bit of better quality that you can squeeze out with a higher ratio is lost as soon as you decrease the picture size for presentation purposes. Only when you really want to have a screen-filling image, it makes sense to invest in a bigger size and hence longer render times.

Yeah, for 1920x1080 it took about twice as long to render this scene. With 1280x720 I got back down to 2-3 minutes per render. Until Nathan asked in the launch thread how to make the image fit the screen I never thought about rendering it in a smaller size.

Did these 2 with different settings for the glass shader of the visor. First one with quite smoot surface, 2nd one a bit rougher.

Love that scene. Nice and simple but effective...

I, personally, prefer the second one.

Tobi's great process motivated me to also put a second hand on my latest scene since I wasn't very happy with a few details, especially the rims, tyres and mirrors. The changes nearly doubled my render time, but I think they're worth it.

Huge improvement, tyres and rims didn't seem to have any reflections at all in the before scene. Visor looks way better than what I have. Only the rimbolt looks a bit odd, seems to have the same colour as the rim itself?
