CSM Tools Win7-64 / not working pls help

Hi everyone,

I know this is well known and a lot discussed issue, but I'm definetly not able to solve this problem and need your support.

I'm running GP4 on my Win7 - 64bit computer, GP4 itself runs fine. No problems, no issues. Installed from my original CD.
I would like to run some mods, so installed the GPpatch 9.6, replaced the gp4.exe with the decrypted one, installed gpxpatch 4.24a, installed Zaz tools,.etc.
Everything was done according to what was written in the several threads here before.

Then I downloaded some mods (91 season / 95 season / 06 season incl. trackpacks etc).
CSM stars without any problem, I'm able to load the mods & tracks everything looks fine,..but when I start GP4 over the GPX start button he's talking to TSM,
updating the wad's, loading the tracks but then it says " Unload GpXPatch and GP4 first to restore".

I can start GP4 but no changes are done inside and I'm still stuck in year 2002

Here's a list what I tried so far:
- after the first install I set the graphics and saved
- gp4.exe runs in admin mode & comp. mode for xp sp3
- gpxpatch.exe runs in admin mode & comp. mode for xp sp3
- program was not installed in the standard folder
- everytime before I made a new install of GP4 or ZAZ tools I cleanded my registry
- I tried two different downloadable Versions of ZAZ Tools, both with the same result

So Guys, if anyone has some idea please let me know, grateful for any comment or suggestion.

Not sure if I understood correctly what you've explained, but IMO you don't have to start GP4 with Start button in GPxPatch but with Start in CSM (bottom right one)

It is normal for CSM window to say " Unload GpXPatch and GP4 first to restore"

That is just letting you know when done using GP4 you should close it & GPxPatch 1st before closing CSM

Sounds like basically your mod was not done correctly
Was it a CSM update to your mods or something you manually put inside one of the mods in
for instance C:\Program Files (x86)\Grand Prix 4\GPSAVES\Carsets\F1 2002\Data

But yes the unload warning your seeing is normal

Many Thanks for your help so far and sorry for my confusing description. Of course I started gp4 with the csm program, start button right side.
I really thought that the csm might not working correctly due to this message "unload gpx etc..."
The confusing thing is that I tried several mods so far, but none of them is working. Better said, all data's are loading inside the csm, but when gp4 starts I have still the original cars, menus etc.
I had a small success with the 1991 mod, cars and tracks were still the same...but the load screen when you start a race showed a pic of m. Schumacher in his first Jordan f1 car... so at least some changes went into my gp4

Maybe you should describe how your doing you mod?
CSM update or manually putting files in folders?

I'm installing the mods by CSM "Install carset-update" and then selecting the individual mods, i.e. 2006.cuh
This works fine, CSM is loading all the files and I can also do changes inside the mod's configurables, i.e. choose driver, tracks etc.

Cal after you hit Start on CSM it opens GPxPatch yes or no?

Yes, it opens GPxPatch... like this...


Hitting the button "GPX starten" would start gp4,...without any changes at the cars or tracks,...

Do you have csm and gpxpatch started at the same time? Looks like it.

Close gpxpatch, click the restore button in csm, then start the mod in csm.

Close gpxpatch, click restore in csm, delete the wadcache in the mod folder and try again.

Also a bit strange that the mods in csm have wrong icons...

Unfortunately I cannot hit the "restore button" after I closed GPxpatch, it stays in light grey like on the pic


Deleting the wad cache was possible, but the problem remains...

If you can't click restore, it means that everything is restored, so that's no problem.

I read through your posts again, just to make clear I understood everything correctly:
-you start csm
-select the mod you want to play
-click the Start button in the right bottom corner of the csm gui
-gpxpatch opens
-if you then click on gpx starten, gp4 starts with 2001 cars

Yes, that's correct Kedy....

I'm tempted to say you didn't install the mods correctly. For example the 1995 mod, unless you've edited the 1995 Version 2.2.csm file, it should appear like this in csm

different icon, and different name


Also in the mod's configurables menu of the '06 mod, you don't have any icons at all.


I'd try deleting the 3 mods and reinstalling them.

If I'm correct it shouldn't open GPxPatch. At least it never did it to me. Hitting Start button in CSM should launch the game and patch it with your selected mod.

Mine always has opened GPxPatch & not within the CSM window but its own

@Eric & Flying: The GPxpatch is only opened when your "quick launch" box in the CSM prog is unticked. If you tick the quick launch button the Gpxpatch window will not appear.

@Kedy: It really looks that we're using different mods, the CSM seems the be the same ( vers. 1.26). I've downloaded all my mods from gp4db, so that might be a reason.
I'll download your 2011 mod and will then revert wheter it's working for me or not.

Just an idea, re-reading your comments : did you try to double-click a .cuh file ? That's an alternative way to install a mod.

Hi again,

I getting mad on this,...
I've downloaded the 2011 mod, clicked on "file", install carset/update. At first I stalled the F1 2011.cuh, then the F1 2011 cars.cmu.
Please see below some screenshots and tell me if there is any difference to your CSM screen...





Anyhow,...starting via csm does not bring me into the year 2011...all the cars, menues, tracks etc. remain the same

Doubleclicking the *.cuh files does not work for me, Windows says an error...see below...


Do I maybe have to save the *.cuh / *.cmu files into a special folder to load it into CSM, or doesn't make it a difference?
