NEW PROBLEM - Disappearing TEX files. Colours Appearing in Wrong Places.

Posted by DonMogul
My thanks to those who helped me out yesterday ^_^

I eventually found a 2011 template from [racing.siwebia.fr] and got painting :)

Now after saving the files as tga I have tried to use TexResizer and Slimtex to convert the files back to tex.

TexResizer gives me no visible signs its doing anything (in any case not getting any tex files).

I drop the tgas into Slimtex and tell it to convert them to tex... the tgas disappear from the list but i get no tex files.

I am saving the tgas as uncompressed 32 bit files. Is that the correct way?

Select a macro (cars) and set an output path to a new folder on the desktop. Use image A8R8 etc. Tutorial in the FAQ.

now my problem is that the car looks strange. all the colours are there... just in the wrong places

tried to flip the tgas but that just made it worse lol

Screenshots are always helpfull ..

Did you flip horizontal or vertical? Common is to only flip it vertical

well first things first, the lod you uploaded has got a few textures missing (it looks like you've taken the lod from a different car?), the original template requires 3 tga's, but yours requires 1. I suggest you redownload the 2011 from the website and use the lod in that.

And then once you've done that both the tga's need to be rotated 180 before they are converted to tex, not flipped horizontally or vertically ;-)

If you flip Horizontal AND Vertical, it is the same as rotating ;) ;)

Ah yes damn, still 1 rotation is more efficient than 2 flips surely? ;)

Anyway DonMogul, its not to do with the tga its to do with the lod

Depends on the program ;) In PSP I always have some pretty fast shortkeys for flipping ;) ;)

havent pinched the lod from another car it was in the pack.

so we saying that my problem is not really my fault? hahahahahah! makes a nice change :P

EDIT:

starting to think it IS my fault lol.

downloaded another template pack (the 2010 version from the site i linked in my first post) and painted another car.

donmogul_2 textures seem to be displaying fine everything else is buggered lol

DL link to the car: [www.megaupload.com]

May i ask, are you changing the lod in any way? The pack comes with 1 lod (lod_0), but your cars have all the lods? Im not massively experienced at this, but i tend to use templates as they are, which works perfectly fine for me. (although the s10 doesn't have a lod, but ah well ;)). Anyway its pretty much if i take your tga's and apply them straight to the lod or zmodeler file from the download, it works exactly after a bit of rotation (your donmogul_1 needs to be rotated 180). It worked perfectly with the s11 as well.

Hope that helps, feel free to ask for clarification if its not clear :)

Problem regarding Slimtex not working was solved rather easily *blush*

For future reference for those who have similar troubles in the future:

(1) Drag and drop your tgas into the Batch To TEX page of Slimtex.
(2) highlight all tgas you are about to convert
(3) select the Cars macro
(4) Set the prefix to hi (if required)
(5) hit convert

Problem regarding colours in the wrong places was fixed by:

(1) Open the gp4 lod file in gp4builder.
(2) Rename the textures via the (surprise, surprise) Rename Textures feature
(3) Save your car1 and car2 lods
(4) If you want check out how the car looks in zmodeler
(5) Convert tgas to tex
(6) Copy saved lods and converted texs to the cars.wad

My thanks goes to truecrysis for being very patient with a hopeless n00b ;)
I have since upgraded my Windows to Windows 7 Pro (at the time of the OP I was on plain on old Home Premium).

Today I installed ZaZ tools and found that none of the tools would run. I used a fix from the creator himself detailed here:

And now the tools run.

I am painting cars for a competition for another community of an online strategy game. My problem is that the tga files arent being converted to TEX.

I have tried applying macros and the hi prfeix by using the buttons on the top row and have even tried right clikcing where the files are dragged and dropped. No changes are made i.e. the macro and the prefix is not being applied.

I have tried converting regardless but the tga files just disappear from the list and i get no tex files...

(the reason I replied here instead of a new thread is because this is basically the same problem!)

the tool SLIMTEX is in compatibility mode? i think that it does not need it because it is 100% compatible with windows 7

----signature--------------------------------------------------------

MagicDatas? Setups? Pit Stop Strategies? Track Specific Performances? Up2Date GP?
Power Torque Curve? Where's this stuff? All download is available at ..
No I haven't put the program into compatibility mode. all I've done is to have it run as admin (I've tried without it).

what I was trying to say was that I upgraded my os from W7 home premium to W7 pro.

Thats the only thing thats changed since my initial problem.

I've also made sure I've got the latest version of zaz tools.
turns out my AV was picking up the converted files and deleted them wihtout telling me. Ive since told my AV to ignore actions by slimtex and ZaZ tools as a whole and everything has been ship shape since.

can i suggest also that the GP4FAQ is pinned to the top? I had to do a google search to find it (i tried the forum one first)
