Hello everyone,

Here's Southside Speedway circuit, a very fast track originally for Nascar cars, but it's amazing to drive it with any mod. This track is actually a very small one, only half a kilometer long, but GP4Builder wouldn't accept such a short track and crashed to desktop. So, I had to extend it to 2 kilometers.

I've had a great year here, I've learned a lot about GP4Builder thanks to many of you who will recognize yourselves. Guys, I wish you a happy new year a few hours early, and God save the world (if it exists)!

If one day you'll learn how to do elevations or banking you'll be a legend with that speed of editing skills! Just saying :3
And thank you for all your efforts to bring more content for people, there is a definetily need for oval tracks for this game, I for one had my own fantasy series and always wanted to emulate american dirt tracks masters or oval specialists, or maybe some karting (btw karting tracks are usually flat - just saying xD) and there always is a huge lack of such little fun content for this game.

Yes, I know how to do elevations. Here's a fictitious track I called Roller coaster. It's very ridiculous for everyone... but me. The purple roller coaster object is by F1 Virtual.

I don't have a mediafire premium, so all the download links, except the new ones, are dead. There are now on the fongu's blog :

To watch videos all the tracks and mods by all the members of the communauty and downloadble on fongu's blog, everyone can watch my X account. Just scroll down. In principle they are all there. I fixed some bugs or some CCline (like Cagliari's turns or Maues pit entrance) but it's for my personal use because I never informed the authors :

There's also GP4Database, where I could find the names of the tracks and their authors.

Ah, yeah. Completely forgot about these circuits. It is just faster for you to work with the flat ones I suppose? Also what about the banking for oval tracks? You did Pocono (I think) but it was flat, afaik.
And it is not like it is a big deal for the custom fantasy circuits, but oval banking is kind of the thing which makes those races look more spectacular, so it is more about the visuals in the game.

Oh yes I know, it's very important to know how to make bankings, very agree with you. That was my only regret when I did Pocono raceway. I study the layouts of other tracks to try to know how they do but still impossible for me to understand completely. Maybe it's faster to do a track when it's flat but I think that when we know where are the ups and downs, it's just about one or two hours more, that's all. But maybe I mistake completely.

I add something :

Last night, I celebrated New Year's Eve with my friends, and this morning I woke up with a splitting headache. I even slept three times today. Now, I'm waking up for the third time, and I realize that this afternoon I wasn't quite clear-headed enough to read your words. That might also explain why my English was even worse than usual (so I'm using Google Translate this time).

You're probably a great guy, but you're free to modify my tracks and add banked corners to my "Pocono Raceway." I've already said that I give all my tracks to anyone who wants them, and they can do whatever they want with them, and without my permission. I assume you know how to design a track, so please teach me how to design banked corners; I'm always eager to learn. Many GP4 players seem happy that I share my tracks with them. Even if they're not always perfect, I'm happy to share these tracks. If you've never built one before, you'll see that it's not so easy to understand how to construct a track, especially for me, since I struggle with English and don't always understand Lo2k's guide. I do my best to improve my tracks, one after another. Okay, I'm not the best modder in the community, far from it, but it's a pleasure for me, and I hope for others, to share what I do. And I also hope that you're satisfied with them; that's all I ask.

Very kindly, very friendly, sincerely.

Thank you so much for another new track!
Only those who have tried to do something like this truly understand the effort and the learning curve involved.
Thank you for keeping GP4 alive and for bringing exciting new features.

@viking75,

Thanks for sharing this track.
By the way, in your experience which kind of track is more difficult to create for GP4, a speedway like this one or a track with different types of turns?

Happy new year!

Hello lorak.

Making a oval layout (dat file) takes less time, sure, but for a complete oval track or complete winding track it depends of the environment and the kind and numbers of objects you want to do and include. It can be long with an oval and, conversely, faster with a winding track. There's no rules. But I think other modders can answer better than me.

I send you below the tutorial by Dave Hagenaars called "How to build a track in 60 Minutes". It's a basic lesson to make only a oval track. Read words after words. Just don't forget that now "3DEditor" is GP4Builder. So use this tool. To do a layout of your choice, it's the same method but try your best to connect exactly the last and first sector. For that, if you need it, you can use "Curve angle" option in "General shape settings" (right click/multiple sectors)

When you'll finish your layout, don't forget to open the gates of the pits to clear the passage of the cars (entrance and exit). Select any sector at the level of the pit entrance and pit exit and a window will open : so select "gate" (at the top of window), right and left, to open or close the gate.

Now, you can make the important CCline, that allows to fix the car trajectory. For that, here's the tuto of F1Virtual :

[f1virtual.blogspot.com]

By the way you'll find other tutorials on the F1Virtual site.

Now, here is the "dessert" : include your layout in a wad file. Here's a screenshot of this section extracted from the Lo2k's guide :

Insert objects in your track from original GP4 tracks or go to the sites like "Free 3D Models" or "Sketchfab" (better in my opinion) ; among ojects with price you'll find too free objects. You've got to download 3ds objects, but there are only a few. The most are obj. files. So go to a site to convert in 3ds, there are many for free.

P.S : sometimes, I take objects from tracks made by members of the forum. In this case, ask for the permission. Sometimes too I take from a track whose author I don't know, so I can't ask the permission. But don't do like me, it's not kind. Otherwise, wait for the reaction of the author and delete if he doesn't want. But please, if you get objects by yourself, give the permission to anyone to take them. It's a way to share. It's fair.

To do fences, click right and simply choose "fences".

For the rest, do like me : trust your intuition and try your best to understand step by step.

Last thing : simply download the GP4Builder's guide by Lo2k.

Thank you, Viking. It's all good. I'm honestly very impressed with the speed of how fast you create your circuits. I remember I've edited several CC-lines (for Brands Hatch, Jarama and Long Beach) and it was taking like 2 hours to get them done, and sometimes they needed re-do if I was not satisfyed with something in the 1st or 2nd sector which usually means that you'll need even more time cos there's no way to edit only certain corner without CC-line getting corrupt. It is just banking for ovals is a must (in my eyes, even though it is just for the visuals really) and track elevations usually just add some liveness to tracks, although I'm more than pleased to have whatever you create (and thanks for finishing various beta-tracks from the past and populating it with objects, grandstands and adverts) and yes thank you for permission to improve your circuits. Wish I had more time to spend on hobbies cos I've watched PrBlanco's tutorial on YouTube to learn more on basics of GP4Builder and had some succesfull experiments with transperent TGA / placing IMG to OBJ 3D objects converted from image by some neural network AIs, but now I don't have time sadly to continue on what I was doing last summer.

p.s. I also had problems with english in the past, luckily I was playing some video games at the EU-english servers, found some nice english speaking YouTubers to follow and now I barely even touch translators cos I beleve my english improved to some average lvl (still far from perfect), although when I started using these forums in 2010 or so, I couldn't write anything w/o using google translator and such.

Also Viking, there are lots of cool objects within the original gp4 tracks, so u wont need permissions.

And there are lots of image to 3d object neural network tools. I tested them for some St Petersburg objects for track by Nedlav and they work like a charm. Really really recommend.

Hello,

Unfortunately I have no more time. Last year I failed my university exams and I don't want to do it again. But I just took a look on this circuit on youtube and it seems nice.
