It's a shame they don't release the cars that are ready, like Hega did in 1999

My current task is developing the scene lighting in Blender and the parameters which produces the ambient occlusion and reflection textures that once combined over the primer texture (car color and logos) results on the best looking effect inside GP4.
Takes much longer in the short term but, once the technique is stablished, its a matter of inserting the 3d models in and getting rhe textures ready in a serial production fashion - assures consistency and speeds up the process.
Also it requires lots of planning: both sides of the car must have the same look and fit inside a wide range of light conditions; strong direct lights and shadows are forbidden. It is very hard indeed. Also, GP4 reflections wash out colors, making textures look bad and fake. Editing techniques must be found to compensate for that, and be stablish as a repeatable technique so it is applied over the other cars quickly.
That is what is taking me lots of time (everyday Im up until 2am in this pursuit of getting it done)
I am totally obsessed by the task, I confess.

Btw Fongu's 2025 mod is awesome in every way
I took a look at it to answer questions about memaccess syntax etc
All the menus are pristine - it redefined my concepts of what a mod should look like.
I had wishes and ideas and his mod's quality was an eye opener about possibilities.
Congratulations, you raised the bar very high Mr Fongu!!

Thanks rico. I can't take all the credit - I took a lot of different authors work and compiled them together - in particular Oggo, 32bobo32 and Carl_gpgames for the menus.

It looks pretty good. Congratulations!
Hopefully, later you explain us the MAGICTEXTURE technique.

Hi all,
Just posted WIP on MP4/3 (completely new textures, UV map and surface - now red/white marlboro stripes are resolution independent (magicTexture)

Edit: took GP4 to the tailors. New driver suits (custom sewed from real pictures).
This memorabiliamania helps a lot!
HD pictures of everything from wing fins to bolts to gloves etc.

Nice to see someone with true passion it seems to finally make an ideal mod for this game. Also from looking at the McLaren you've posted, I assume you know that Alain Prost had much more subtile body as compared to Senna, which was one of his secret weapons (before 1995 only 'dry weight' of the car was counted, excluding the drivers body weight). So I hope you'll make the McLaren drivers bodies different to represent this well-known real life detail, should be no issue cos the game allows different car models for the same team to be there (*)

Hi, nice observation. Actually in GP4 what will show is the helmet height, you can do it right now in any other mod.
I am working in something much more fuckastic, the freaking Alain Prost nose!!
The driver's height will be noticeable through the helmet height.
Anyway, in 1987 Senna was in Lotus and I dont think anyone noticed his height difference to Nakajima.
The McLaren MP43 looked lower than Lotus so that would be oranges and apples.
If you woukd like that, I would accept gladly your help:

* your task: please do research and get me each 1987 driver's height in cm please - accurate reliable trusted data with references - no chatgpt (it elaborates and lies awfully like a mix of a cheating wife and a car salesman) nor facebook nor instagram nor tiktok) - or you could take pictures of every car/driver and estimate his helmet height using the front tyres as a constant - but that would be gross estimates due to perspective and lens distortion, and lack of precision. Not good enough method.. Regarding dimensions, I need exact figures - personal estimates or guesses are not acceptable. *

The main drivers (Prost, Senna, Piquet, Mansell, Berger, Patrese, Alboreto, Johansson, Nakajima, Arnoux, Fabi) will have a matching 3d face to their phototexture.

Today was a really hard working day into GP4
I assembled a collection of HD photos of the drivers and I am editing them into new faces - sometimes the angle is right but the driver is looking sideways, or the lighting is not good, or the eyes are ok but his head is turned a bit.. really hard work editing it all.
However I am extremely satisfied with the results, (I am very demanding). I even watched videos on life stories to capture emotions that do not show easily. I hope you can see it - Prost eye's are really a mix of joy and concern - he used to be a happy guy until.. ( well most of them) .. that's another story.
Anyway, Alboreto got a nice face too, very expressive eyes he got. I posted it right now.

Oh yes, the helmets! I built them to be lightweight (no bozo 3D phone cords to bog down the % CPU) and they finally got some magic today - results are posted there too.
A good texture is worth a million polys, I believe.

Time to bed.
Keep throwing ideas, I appreciate that!
Best regards,
Ric-o loc-o

PS its Mansellmania time today, although the pic I got is nice, the helmet face must be more race-like.
