Current Standings

2006 World Championships

The Rules and Regulations

1) Race Weekend

Where possible, there will be one race per week (unless a test session is scheduled).

1.1 Free Practice

- Each race weekend starts with a 30-minute free practice session

- A setup bonus is available every race weekend during free practice. The closer a team's two drivers' times are the better the reward. The top 3 teams get a 30 driver performance bonus and a 5 bhp boost for qualifying and the race whilst places 4th to 6th get a 15 driver performance bonus and a 3 bhp boost. Setup bonuses do not carry over to the next race.

1.2. Qualifying

- Qualifying is a 30-minute session.

1.3 Race

- Races are run at 100% race distance with points being awarded to the top 8 finishers as below:

1st / 10pts
2nd / 8pts
3rd / 6pts
4th / 5pts
5th / 4pts
6th / 3pts
7th / 2pts
8th / 1pt

2) Performances

2.1 Team Performances

- Each team performance is calculated based on their position in the previous year's Constructor's Championship, as well as which engine, fuel supplier, tyre supplier, technical director and brake manufacturer they use along with their pre-season testing plans.

- Team are awarded the following base BHP values according to their final positions:

1st / 711
2nd / 710
3rd / 709
4th / 708
5th / 707
6th / 706
7th / 705
8th / 704
9th / 703
10th / 702
11th / 701

- Every teams starts the season with a base reliability value of 1000.

2.2 Driver Performances

Mid Season Boosts

- Performance points are awarded to all finishers in all three sessions during a race weekend.

- All performance points earned in practice will go into the driver’s qualifying and race performance (Test Drivers only)

- All performance points earned in qualifying will go into the driver’s qualifying performance

- All performance points earned in the race will go into the driver’s race performance.

End of Season Perf Boosts

- At the end of each season, the amount of performance points each driver has earned during the season is divided by 10 to level the field

- Additional perf points are also awarded for seasons completed, victories, podiums, points total, fastest laps, pole positions, and for winning the Driver's Championship (IRL not included).

- Drivers also receive perf boosts for starting races and taking part in Free Practice and Testing Sessions.

- Perf points are deducted if a driver fails to finish a race.

2.3 Test Sessions

- Every team has the opportunity to take part in Pre-Season and Mid-Season test sessions that occur throughout the season.

- Teams can take part in Pre-Season testing free of charge.

- Teams can attend as many mid-season test sessions as they wish, but must also pay a fee of £1m for each session they do attend.

- At a test session, each team can choose a set of tyres to run (Soft or Hard) and a Simulation Program (Qualifying or Race). Each tyre and program has a different effect on performance and reliability.

- Testing will be attended by all three drivers of each team.

3. Drivers
Teams need two race drivers and one test driver. These drivers can be swapped around as much as you want. All driver contracts are one year and the drivers will become available for negotiation at different times during the season. Usually, the driver will accept the highest bid but a small “home team discount” will be given to their current team if they’re happy with their current team. Drivers can become unhappy if they’re demoted to a test driver for example. Drivers can be released from their contracts with no penalty because the salaries are paid in full at the start of the season. Replacement drivers will be paid pro-rated (for example a driver’s salary is 5M and there’s 50% of the season remaining, he will be paid 2.5M)

3.1 Pay drivers
Some drivers have sponsors who will pay you for hiring these drivers. For example, if you hire a pay driver whose sponsors pay 4M and the salary you give out to them is 3M, you’ll get 1M. If you offer the same driver 6M salary, you’ll have to pay 2M. Pay drivers can't be fired during the season. Sponsor payouts are factored into the price of the driver on the drivers market.

4. Prize money
Teams will get prize money from race weekends and at the end of the season.

4.1 Race weekend
The prize money for race weekends will be handed out as follows based on a drivers finishing position in the race:
1st £2.2M
2nd £2.1m
3rd £2m
4th £1.9m
5th £1.8m
6th £1.7m
7th £1.6m
8th £1.5m
9th £1.4m
10th £1.3m
11th £1.2m
12th £1.1m
13th £1m
14th £900k
15th £800k
16th £700k
17th £600k
18th £500k
19th £400k
20th £300k
21st £200k
22nd £100k
DNF £0

4.2 End of the season
1st £50M
2nd £45M
3rd £40M
4th £37M
5th £35M
6th £33M
7th £30M
8th £27M
9th £25M
10th £22M
11th £20M

5. Activity

All managers are subject to an activity check. Managers who fail to post for 4 consecutive races (without notification) will lose 1 BHP point for each Grand Prix event missed and run the risk of losing their teams.

Red Bull

It’s a new challenge for me as a team principal after spending two years at Ferrari, but I am pretty sure we’ll get along.
Red Bull’s objective is to finish in the top 5. Our goal is to win both titles in a period of 3 years and as a team principal, I am sure the team has the capacity to be a winning team right at the start.

Toro Rosso

Scuderia Toro Rosso’s mission is to be a stepping stone for talented young drivers in F1 and to act as a junior team to Red Bull Racing. Both Red Bull Racing and F1 in general will have a great benefit of Toro Rosso’s presence in the sport. We believe our drivers will grow to become great drivers in the future. The objective is to score points in 2006.

Williams

We're eager to look forward into the 2006 season. After the last year's painful defeat we've had in the 2005 championship, it's now time to turn the next page on what's waiting for us ahead of this season.
With our new team principal, our objectives is to score as many good points as we can. We certainly believe Nick and Felipe will deliver some great results for the team and that we head on the right track.

Spyker

It's a new start for Spyker and a new challenge. This season could prove to be a challenging for us since it's taken over and we hope to get at least a miracle in some races.
Our task will be to score at least a point this season. We also believe that our drivers Timo and Andre will do great this season.

Delighted to welcome Takuma officially to the team and to see the #1 on a Japanese driver in a Japanese car, we hope this is the start of a beautiful collaboration. Fantastic to have JV back with the team for another season and with an Oatley penned car we are feeling positive for the season ahead.

2006 Pre-Season Test #1

Testing ahead of the 2006 F1 season began this week with all the teams debuting the new cars in Monza. Mclaren's Juan-Pablo Montoya topped the timesheets, however, all the times look a lot closer than they were last season. It was a disappointing session for Ferrari who struggled to get their new car up to speed. The shock of the day was BMW Sauber who had all three of their drivers inside the top 12.

Red Bull

As expected, we should be in the top 8 for most of the races, it is still preseason testing, so we expect improvements later on.
Ferrari are either sandbagging, or something else is going on at the team I previously managed.

Toro Rosso

Solid effort by Jani, our drivers did well considering the performance of the car. We should wait for the Australian GP, so any comments about the performance are unnecessary at the moment.

Nick in the top 10 is looking a good sign for Williams. Though it's still a pre-season test so there's more to come in the next two tests.

Spyker

Looks like a good start to our pre-season testing. P15 looks to be quite convincing from Timo, Andre a bit off from the looks of things.
We still don't know where we are but the next two pre-season tests will tell us more.

2006 Pre-Season Test #2

Test session #2 took place in Spain today ahead of the 2006 season. It looks set to be a close battle with the top 7 all coming from different teams! Reigning champion Takuma Sato topped the timing screens as he looks to made a good start at his new Honda team.

Red Bull

A much better day for the team, especially for Kimi. Rosberg and Ammermüller, however, couldn’t really show their speed today and it’s even more surprising that our sister cars did better than Ammermüller.

Toro Rosso

Neel and Kamui did a phenomenal job today, outperforming some of the big teams’ test drivers. We expect more from AJ, though.

Williams

Massa in P5 looks very promising and Nick in P8 putting our both cars in Top 10 in second pre-season testing is a good sign for Williams in terms of speed. Lopez meanwhile, didn't seem to have that kind of a pace down in P15, hopefully he finds some of it.

Spyker

A bit so good day in our end. Though our test driver Anthony has surprisingly outpaced both Timo and Andre in P19 which is quite impressive showing from the Brit. We seem to be quite close with the others, but we still have one more to go to find out where we're at.
