Looking for a generic hi res steering wheel

Hi,
I'm trying to find a hi res steering to replace the default one, internal only. (i'm using hega's generic as external)

I quite like the layout of the default wheel, so I don't want a realistic wheel.
I love this one:

but I have no idea where to find it.

A hi res version of the default one, like this one, would be nice also.

I've just made one myself which looks eerily similar to that one! I don't really like the wheels which come with the mods where the text doesn't really fit in the right places. So I got a version of the Alpines steering wheel and used bits to make up the same shape as the original one. (But also increased the resolution by 5 times as the original was rubbish resolution!)

Not everything lights up, but the important bits I use work.

This was the one I nicked bits from. I think it was in one of the 2021 mod bits which have been recently released.

Then I made this from it.

Beautiful steering wheels, I hope you will release them soon! :-)
I think the actual Alpine one was part of Hega's release here: [www.grandprixgames.org]
I photochopped it up and moved the buttons round to match the original one. Although I did move some of the original lights in the cockpit_wheel file.
I'm happy to release it if Hega doesn't mind. :) Although I haven't released anything before so I don't know the correct protocol, or where to upload it...

Very nice work, but too recent for my taste.

I started yesterday to make an upgraded version of the default wheel. There are lots of carbon textures to use, it's eye candy, but the wheel feels so flat. :(
I'm struggling to find a way to replicate the creases you can see on the carbon pattern.

I guess i'll take care of this in the end, I started with easy stuff like buttons, lights and digits.

Looks sharp, a release would be fantastic.

After a good amount of work, i'm finished with the lights/LCD displays. I'm quite happy with the result.

Now the hard part: change the carbon texture, grips and shift paddles.

Several evenings later, here's the result.

A few minor tweaks are needed (I need to align the bits between the center and the edge (it's a real pain in the ***... if I could lay my hands on the guy who decided to split the textures this way... I would split him the same way !), but the design of the wheel will not change much.
I also need to adjust the center LCD display.

What will be the resolution for the stwheel?

Did a few changes to smooth the graphics, and was ready to say: "it's finished!".
Then I started a race and realised some lights were incorrectly placed when on. Rev lights are almost ok, but the three red/yellow/blue indicators are off by a 3-4 pixels on the left, and even more on the right side. I realised there's the same weirdness with the default wheel, but given the poor resolution, you need to look closely to notice.

Is there a way to edit the light positions ?

As you can see on the screenshot below, it's off by a few pixels.

Ok after some time spend in gp4 builder i fixed the light positions, and had to make a few tweaks to the textures.

Here's the result:

Do you think I should darken the background of the LCD displays, so the LCD bars are less visible when off ?

With more light, it's quite visible, as shown below.

Great!
I like that wheel, that looks pretty good. A few different generic ones to use for different seasons would be good to have!

I found changing the positions of the lights and buttons in GP4Builder quite hard to actually get accurate. I could move them, but never quite into the position which I wanted them to be moved to! instead of moving a couple pixels, they'd suddenly jump about 50 pixels in a different direction instead.

When I did my wheel, I didn't actually add the lights in the off position to the main steering wheel TEX. The steering wheel display TEX has the on and off versions anyway so, as long as they are in the correct position there, leave them out of the main steering wheel TEX then you won't have to worry about lining them up exactly to the nearest pixel.

For the bars on the LCD displays, I'd knock them back a bit to make them less visible. Maybe 50% opacity of what you have at the moment. Maybe make the red/green/amber lights a bit smaller as well. Just shrink them in the display TEX and make sure the centre point is still the same for each one, then you won't need to move anything.

That's an issue I had two hours ago when I started GP4 builder for the first time: by default it has a "snap" option enabled that prevents from moving objet the amount you want: the snap value is 0.005, so you jump by that amount.

Weird, that's not what I encountered: the off lights in the display texture are never used: I modified completely the centre texture before doing the display one, and I could see the "off" lights that I had included in the main texture. Same goes for all the buttons.

Noted for the LCD displays. It's going to be harder to change the warning leds: the red ones are actually using the same texture as the red RPM leds. I would be easier I think to reduce the size of the LED objects in the mesh.

I didn't think about looking for a snap option. Is that what this is?

You could be right about the off lights, I just looked at my display TEX again and that might be why I just end up cheating and using black screens for all the lights! I have a feeling that it does work for the traction control and launch control buttons though.

I don't know if it's linked to the same option, but the button I deactivated is in the toolbar above the 3D View. (it's the magnet)
