It would be sad but might be for the best - at least a sabbatical. I agree that if anyone has the time it would be nice to conclude the season.

This is just sad, very sad...after all those years of friendship with people around the globe...
... to end like this.
Yes there were arguments, but thats normal...we are just people playing a game that we love so much. Everybody wants his driver to win or at least score some points for his team.
All the work that teambosses and other people do for making the cars look great and the helmets for there drivers with the same sponsoring of the car... that's a lot of work, and I should know, because I made a lot of helmets for GP3.
And all this dedication from all of you gentlemen would die after this season... so sad.
At least we can try to survive this...just like we survived covid19...
Don't let this serie die...fight for it...
My beloved Nadia fought till her last gasp before she died of acute leukemia, and in 2 days I lost her... but she fought till the last moment.
so should we, don't give up after all these years...
There are better days to come...
So Gentlemen and Gentlewomen lets go for it and lets blow some new life in this serie.

Lots of love from Belgium,

Marcus and his beloved Angel Nadia.

That was written with deep feelings mate.

I really hope this series doesnt end now or like this, its been great fun for me even if its not gone so good all the times but as you said, its just a game, its a fun game. It causes discussions and brings up heated feelings and arguments sometimes.

I have been part of this for so many years now that its crazy when i think back on it =P

Hopefully we can bring some life back into it again! :)

The biggest issue is, of course, the lack of people who run the races.

Sometimes there are gaps of three months between a race. That makes people lose their interest. A season should typically be about 8-9 months or so, but this season has been running for.. nearly two years?

I am not blaming anybody for this, of course, as we're all having a busy life, but perhaps we should find a different way of getting the races done.

The only way to get races done, is people volunteering their time to do it. A few hours at the most is all it takes. A FP session only needs to be a 30 min session with perhaps 22 screenshots showing the best lap times. At worst, maybe an hour or two to get the session run, pics edited, posted then a post done via the GPGTv account….
Qual the same sort of time, then maybe a couple of hours to do the race coverage…..

But it has always been a lack of willing RD’s, which I had been saying for years. Now. No one is volunteering…..

Yes and no in my opinion. I think the problem is as time has gone on Grand Prix 4 has gotten older and older and runs on lesss equipment therefore reducing the amount of people and hardware that can actually run it. Plus, being able to compile the mod, have all the right software and everything else installed is becoming more and more niche. I’m not even sure it’s a question of being willing as much as it is of being able…which 99.9% of the people here probably aren’t.

I can't comment on linux or MacOs but so far I have never encountered a Microsoft Os or any hardware that wasn't able to run Gp4. The last time I actually installed Gp4 was probably 15 years ago. Since then I always kept an installation together with tools and mods on an external hdd (or in my cloud now). Whenever I move to a new system I just copy it to the hdd and I'm ready to go. No issues whatsoever. I still enjoy actually playing Gp4.

I think the acutal problem is people not using Gp4 anymore (I think this is what you are also hinting at). There are less and less people who know how to get it running, know how to use the tools, who are willing to maybe fiddle around for an evening to get going. In my opinion the "not being able to run it" problem can be fixed by just investing time. And while there's obviously an interest in not letting it the series die - as long as nobody is willing to put a bit of effort in there is just no basis for continuing. When people say they don't have the time this at least partly implies that they feel like it is not worth their time. This is completely fine, but the consequence is obvious.

You see AI leagues popping up on YouTube, which fail after a short time because either it doesn’t get popular enough to garner interest or the person running the league eventually gives up. If these people were to make an account on the forum and RD races here, we wouldn’t have run into this problem now. I once tried advertising the GPGSL on a Discord server I was in, but nobody was bothered to make an account…

It would only be right to at least complete this season. So much work being put into this should mean that GPGSL deserves to have the season finished, especially if we're this close anyway

Yeah, that as well, I suppose. While GP4 still has decent graphics, the game -is- truly showing its age now. I don't have it installed on my laptop at the moment as I use rFactor 2 for my racing fix. I -never- swing on GP4 for casual racing.

But, we should at least try to finish this season, yeah, the series deserve that. After that? I don't know. Maybe a different game sparks more interest. The GPGSL wouldn't be the first or the last league to branch into a different game, even though it is pretty much tied to this site.

But there lies the problem: very, very few volunteers to RD!

This is the problem for me. I would love to run some race weekends but I don't have the means to do so. I only have one laptop which is owned by my employer so that is out of the question.

And honestly, even if I did have a computer, I wouldn't know the first thing about how to get it to work.

Is there an option where 1 person could run the race and then hand the screenshots off to another person to edit and post?

This might help to spread the work load and entice people that can't run the game to help out a little.

I have full statistics and race result tables from the entire series all the way back to race one. I enjoy entering the stats and data into the table after each race and I don't want that to end.

This is doable, however I think it might be difficult to provide a fitting coverage just based on screenshots without having seen the race.

Tbh the least amount of work is probably recording races and upload on yt. I'll try to run a short test next weekend to see how well this works in my case. Maybe the cheapest way to finish off this season and then we'll see what happens next.
