I have the right version of the track so I should be all good to run the round.

GPGSL Rd 3 South African GP – Tester’s Free Practice

Hello and welcome to Kyalami, the venue for Rd 3 of the GPGSL. The tester’s free practice is up first, which may or may not give an indication as to what to expect for when the race drivers hit the track later for their qualifying runs. Let’s head trackside as the cars are heard getting ready to get this session underway.

Weather Report

De Los Rios is the first driver out for the first group.

As he starts his first run he comes across one of the AMRs, which will almost certainly ruin his attempt at a good time.

He sets his time. Having failed to get ahead it’s now going to compromise the lap of the AMR.

Gilson comes across the line and takes the fastest time.

Michail goes just under .05s faster to take the fastest time, only to then be demoted to 2nd as McGregor goes faster.

It’s 4th for Maverick, and Pedersen now goes fastest.

It’s pretty close between the two Christels.

A brilliant lap from Ingers sees him goes fastest.

Moinet finishes his lap and ends up 8th fastest.

Elleker ends up down in 10th after having his lap compromised by De Los Rios.

Next ups is the second group, which is lead out by Hollidge.

He sets his time and it’s good enough to be the 5th fastest time.

O’Brien in the second Tyrant goes even better to be 3rd fastest.

It’s 6th fastest for Szucs in the MMM.

Sheppard goes 13th fastest, which is far off from the pace shown from Pedersen’s car.

Both Calligaris and Stoddart goes faster than Sheppard.

The Mist of Vilela comes across the line and goes 12th fastest.

Greenhalgh shows how good the pace of the Alpha is by setting the 3rd fastest time.

13th fastest so far for Cronin in the Mistral.

Cremasco comes so close to knocking Ingers off from the top.

Savio sets his time and it’s only good enough to be 19th fastest.

Michail and Ingers both leave the pits at the same time as the first group gets their second and final run underway.

Michail is able to improve and moves up to 6th.

Maverick improves and moves up to within the top 10.

Gilson is only able to move up a couple of positions after improving his time.

A much better lap this time around for De Los Rios sees the Alpha driver improve up into the top 5.

Likewise for Elleker, though he isn’t fast enough to make it into the top 5. Moinet also improves as shown in the timings.

Pedersen improves his time, but doesn’t move from his current position.

Into the second group’s final run, and Cronin is able to improve on his previous time.

Hollidge improves on his previous best and moves up to 4th.

There is no movement for Calligaris as the MAC driver improves on his previous time.

It’s 3rd fastest for O’Brien as the Tyrant driver manages to improve his time.

Szucs improves and moves up into 12th.

No movement for SCR owner Stoddart after improving on his previous time.

Vilela improves and moves up a position.

An improvement for Savio, and it’s enough to move him up to 15th.

Greenhalgh improves, and comes so close to taking the fastest time.

With both runs now completed for both groups here is the final standings.

Congratulations to Stuart Ingers and AMR, the winner of the tester’s free practice. Be sure to join us again when we bring you the coverage for the race drivers qualifying session.

Absolutely garbage from me……

GPGSL Team Owner Debut - Melbourne, Season 8 - present
GPGSL Test Debut - Hungary, Season 4. GPGSL Race Debut - Adelaide, Season 5.
The pace is there we just can't seem to unlock it yet. Still, this is progress I suppose.

Not exactly where we wanted to be.
We'll see with the main boys what strategy to use for the race to be in the top tier.

It was clear that we'd have a tough weekend. Hoped for a little bit better though.
The positive is that Anderson really matched my pace there. Still hoping that the big boys can get a bit more out of the car with the data we collected for them.

Congrats to Stu!

I'm new to both GPGSL and the GPG forums as a whole, but I just thought I'd say hello and comment on how impressed I am by this sim. I run a similar community simulated championship (though not to this large an extent) on Twitter and I have to say the depth of this one is next-level. GP4's customizability and open-ended approach is easily its biggest asset; I've run countless fantasy championships without ever driving a car myself!

Will keep an eye on this one and might look back through some of the old seasons - the fantasy liveries look fantastic.

How about you join us and RD some races? You have the experience, so why not?

Not sure if I could get all the prerequisites (streaming/recording wise) right honestly. I'd have to work on learning how to stream first!

Thanks for the offer. I was about to apply as a test driver, but realised I have no clue how to design a custom helmet, which is required. I'll keep things open for the future, though.

Some people can help with painting a basic helmet based on your preferences if you want to

You don’t need to stream it, you can post screenshots here on the forum. BTW we can help you with the helmet painting part

GPGSL Rd 3 South African GP – Qualifying

Welcome back. Next up on our schedule is qualifying for the race drivers. Who will be the one to take home the pole position? We’ll find out momentarily. As the cars can be heard getting ready it’s time now to head trackside.

Weather Report

Out first for group 1 is Elleker.

He sets the first time of the session.

Gilson and Bouchard are both unable to knock Elleker off the top. Pedersen’s time was faster than Elleker, but is beaten by Soutsen.

Kederer continues to show the great pace Alpha has and takes the fastest time.

Keranen sets a good time, but isn’t able to demote Kederer.

Russell sets the slowest time of the session so far.

Scala come across the line, and sets his time which puts him into 7th.

Hinz goes 9th fastest.

4th fastest for Beggani.

Group 2 is now up, with Buitenhuis the first one out.

He comes across the SCR of Warrington, ruining his lap and almost certainly will ruin Warrington’s lap as well.

Almost 2s off from the fastest time. No doubt he’ll be frustrated by this.

Karda and Parachki set their laptimes.

Rodriguez makes it into the top 10 with his laptime.

A great lap from Silva puts him into 3rd.

Both Tyrants set their times, with Majumdar down the order and De Bruyker inside the top 10.

McCarthy finishes his lap and slots into 12th.

Warrington ends up down in 18th.

O’Neill will be slightly disappointed to not match his teammates pace.

Gustavo puts in a good time and goes 4th fastest.

Bouchard is first out this time around for group 1.

He improves and moves up to 4th.

Hinz improves and moves up to 13th.

There is no movement for Gilson after improving his time.

4th now belongs to Scala with his improved laptime.

Russell moves up to 12th.

4th is looking to be the most popular position here today, with Soutsen improving up into the top 5.

It is De Bruyker out first this time around for group 2.

He improves and moves up into the top 10.

Majumdar improves and just misses out on making it into the top 10.

McCarthy improves, and demotes De Bruyker down a position.

Karda improves up to 15th. It’s going to be a tough race for MAC Racing with both cars starting from near the rear of the field.

Buitenhuis sets a better laptime, which is good enough to improve up to 13th.

Gustavo now holds the popular 4th position after improving his time.

A much better laptime for Warrington sees the SCR driver improve up into the top 5.

With both runs now done let’s take a look at the final standings.

Congratulations Tobias Kederer and Alpha Motorsports, our pole sitter for the race. With how close it was between the top 3 we are almost certainly looking at a cracking race tomorrow. Be sure to join us when we bring you the coverage.
