Closer Racing?

Hey guys, just wanted to ask around: What do you personally do to produce close on-track racing?

Hey Zaky04. i am rookie but here is what i can say: firstly we need closer Perfprmance files for it. than we must set magic data power factor and grip factor settings wihch give closer lap times with similiar ai drivers. but two of them not enough for closer races, because tracks have big role for this.

you know at city tracks cars are closer. but overtaking is too hard. at oval tracks, again cars are closer, and there is too much overtakings, but driving pleasure is low because it dont need skill except careful about crashes. at fast tracks we have a lot overtakings and gaps are closer than hybrid or grip tracks. it is hard to stay close in grip tracks, because one slow car at the middle, opens huge gap frontones, and it is hard close that gap later. but all of that is not enough too because every track has own character too. i am on testing now about 79 tracks which i selsct for candidates of my mod, i test their overtakings and it show me every track has different result even they are in same group.

ie Monza and Lausitzring, both of them power tracks, but when Monza has a lot of overtakings in race, Lausitzring has too few. Sepang and Kyalamy both grip tracks, but when Sepang has a lot of overtakings, Kyalamy has too few. etc.

Monaco has also a lots of overtakes, but only when I'm starting from far behind. Sometimes I'm overtaking 21 cars within 4 laps.

oh it seems your ai power factor and grip factors are too low at magic data mate. add 1000 each of them : P

otherhand with all drivers and cars are equal performance file, with no variance and no failure, monaco will have 0 overtakings at auto Aİ race, as a lot of city circuits. but with same performance file, at Osterreiching there will be average 5 overtakes per lap. my test is going to finished. last 10 tracks.

Hi friends, I have been trying the following way. First I select each team's stat, varying 50HP on each team.

for example: 900,850,800, etc.

Then I ''calibrate'' the best pilot in each group for my level, with the same HP. So I arrive, for example, at the value of 16200. Thus, I divide the categories of pilots varying between 500 and each one of them, for example.

16200 Best Driver
15700 Normal Driver
15200 Pay Driver
14700 Alex Yoong, Yuji Ide, etc...

Once this is done, the classification of the race is an important factor, I use the 22 cars all together with just 1 lap. This creates a lot of interesting variations (but not too many, to the right extent) for the grid.

And not racing, this variation creates and recreates several variations of very close and changing groups. Just yesterday I run in silverstone in mod 75 and I was practically 15 laps(total of race) changing positions, winning and losing... super fun

As already said, having done a ''calibration'' in the performance, changing the magical data of the track or the physics of the car is a finer part of the tuning.

it sounds interesting but i didnt understand something.

1) you grouped teams. 900,850,800.. etc.
2) you calibrated each team with same your level. but how? magical data and physhics ok, but if you calibrate you with 900 bhp car, than 850 bhp,arent your 900 bhp equalsiing is collapsed?
and why you need set it for each group. when you select "team dependence performance" and select "power and grip" it is change your power and grip as same with which car and driver you
select. isnt it easier? or i misunderstood something.
3) 16200 Best Driver. 15700 Normal Driver. 15200 Pay Driver. 14700 Alex Yoong, Yuji Ide, etc...
how you couple them with teams. 900 bhp-16200 driver or 900bhp with 14700 driver? etc.
i was try reverse grid. how? example at my mod, Senna, Hamilton, Schumacher at top drivers and leclerc, massa, barichello at bottom. i give best power cars and grip to top drivers at race. but
at qualify, i gave best power and grip to bottom drivers. than i take reverse grid. best pilots was at back. but it didnt work. why? becaue i am playin at %12,5 race distance, than my race laps
between 5 and 10 lap mostly. than top drivers never reach at first places at races. than i eliminated reverse grid try.

See, I'll send some performances in the model that I commented on, about the classification, I do the definition in gpxpatch, putting 3 classification laps with 22 consecutive cars on the track. So everyone goes to the track and does just one lap and usually one gets in the way

I created my own guidelines to make closer racing and it is working fine in every circuit.

Race distance: I always run 100% races so basically I can work with different race strategies to mix up the pack.

Magic data files:
Tire wear: I usually configure tyre wear parameters (Both for CC and for myself) with a reasonable (but nothing exagerated) amount of wear, so after 15, 16 laps within a stint laptimes tend to get a bit slower.

Race strategies: usually I set 60% of cars doing 2 stops and 40% doing 3 stops (5 laps of pit window for each type of strategy).

That creates a situation where 3 stopper cars have best tyres but need to pass the 2 stopper cars. They usually suceed on making the undercut, however 2 stopper cars recover ground after their stops due to the superior grip by the newer tyres.

That really creates intense battles on track almost everytime and you can't predict who's going to win.

Performance files:
Basically I configure performance files with minimal gaps involving teams. So Mercedes (best team) has 1000 HP while Haas (worst team) has 970 HP. Drivers configurations in race conditions are usually the same for the whole season. So basically Lewis Hamilton is 18048 for every race of the season while Pietro Fittipaldi is 17280. My qualifying is pretty regular: every driver has 3 attempts during 60 minutes.

However I created a handicap system where based on the result of the previous race I change drivers qualifying performance. Using Hamilton as an exemple. His regular qualifying performance value is 18048. If he won the previous race, on the next one his qualifying performance value will be 18048 - 512 = 17536. But his race performance value will remain as 18048.

That means Hamilton probably won't make the pole (will start on 4th or 5th position in the grid) and will need to work through traffic on race day.

All that things combined provides great racing, even in Mônaco
