Hello,

Even though creating a starting light is something very simple, this tutorial and template might be useful anyway.

Download template

The starting light, shown on the upper-right corner of your screen at the start of a grand prix, is always based on 2 images:
1 image where all lights are off
1 image where all lights are on

The rest of the image stays the same.

The file is called iconspage1.tex and stored in every track wad. this means, it is possible to use a different starting light for each track.

There are 5 areas where the picture will switch from the left to the right hand side when a light turns on. every area is meant for a light (5 in total).

any light which is outside the colored areas or between two areas, will be cut off in the game and not be shown correctly.

To create a starting light, you can basically use a picture of a starting light, copy it to the template twice (once on the left and once on the right side). make sure, to place it at the exact same location for each side and make sure, each light is within one of the colored areas. after that, you just paint all lights on the right side red and you are ready.
To create transparent or semi-transparent starting lights, make use of the alpha layer.

Save your starting light as a tga-file and convert it to a tex-file, using these settings:

make sure to name it iconspage1.tex.

Once you are done, just update your prefered track-wad with your new starting light and you are ready to go.

Very simple but probably useful though. :-)

Have fun,
Carl

Thanks, I guess you can use TSM to add the tex to a wad rather than having duplicate wad
