you can replace the names directly in the performance files of the mod, if you open the performance files with an editor

Does it look something like this:

** gp3edit - performance file **

[Team #00]
Name=ferrari,ferrari
Performance=850,850,3072
First Driver=1,michael schumacher,16256,240,16256,188
Second Driver=2,rubens barrichello,16158,242,16155,252

Or am I looking at the wrong file? And if so, do I just edit the file with the new names and performances and save it to the same location?
yes, exactly what it looks like and it's correct to save the edited performance files at the same location in the folder performance of the mod, but please make a backup of the original performance files before you edit and replace them :)

Ok so for some reason despite changing the driver names and performances in the text file, nothing actually seems to have changed in game... am I doing anything wrong?
did you load the trackset for the 2002 mod in tsm? and which performance files did you changed? i mean did you changed only the generic performance, or all trackspecific performance files?

Haven't loaded the 2002 trackset yet, and I only changed the generic one, I guess I should change it for all of the tracks right?
