Juan-Pablo Montoya stays at Ferrari, Toyota and Arrows sign test drivers

Juan-Pablo Montoya, who replaced Dario Franchitti at Ferrari after the Monaco race, has signed a deal to stay at Ferrari for 2005 season. The Columbian gets nice pay raise as it's reported Ferrari will be paying 21 million for his services next season. Despite missing the first six races of the season, Montoya is fourth in the championship with third place within possibility.

After earlier announcing Lewis Hamilton's promotion to race driver status for next season, Toyota has signed Nico Hulkenberg as their test driver to complete the 2005 lineup. Hulkenberg's salary will be 500k. Hulkenberg is another exciting prospect for the future who many teams will probably keep an eye out on. Arrows meanwhile announced the signing of Fairuz Fauzy as their test driver for 2005 season. Fauzy's backers will bring 2.5 million to Arrows' budget.

Projected budgets for 2005 season:
Ferrari

Montoya's performance was stellar this year and we expect it to continue in the future. His recruitment was crucial for the great results we had ever since he had become a Ferrari driver and pulling us from the uncertainty over whether we would defend the title. We expect to announce news on Takuma Sato in the next couple of races.

Not the greatest of qualifying sessions we are used to. A 1-2 finish in the race is an imperative for both drivers

2004 Belgian Grand Prix

Welcome to recap of the 2004 Belgian Grand Prix raced at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. It’s the 14th round of the 2004 season.

Lap #1
Fernando Alonso overtakes Kimi Räikkönen in the start. Takuma Sato and Felipe Massa also get past Rubens Barrichello. Williams’ speed is too much on the straights though and Räikkönen takes his lead back. Barrichello also overtakes Sato who is then overtaken by his team mate Juan-Pablo Montoya also.

Lap #2
Kimi Räikkönen is leading the pack after the first lap.

Juan-Pablo Montoya spins out onto the gravel and drops down all the way to 22nd place.

Lap #3
After getting a pretty good start to the race, Felipe Massa retires from the race with a suspension failure.

Lap #4
Rubens Barrichello and Takuma Sato both overtake Fernando Alonso and they’re now 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Lap #5
Looks like Kimi Räikkönen will be unstoppable today. He’s already got a lead of over 7 seconds to second placed driver.

Takuma Sato overtakes Rubens Barrichello for 2nd place.

Lap #6
Fernando Alonso spins his McLaren and drops down to 15th place.

Rubens Barrichello, Michael Schumacher, Christian Klien and Robert Kubica are the first drivers to pit today.

Lap #8
Nick Heidfeld pits.

Lap #9
Jenson Button, Jarno Trulli, Antonio Pizzonia and Heikki Kovalainen pit.

Lap #10
Takuma Sato is in the lead without pitting yet.

At the end of the lap, Takuma Sato pits too with Nico Rosberg.

Lap #11
Dan Wheldon retires with a transmission failure.

Lap #13
Nothing goes right for Jenson Button this season. He goes wide in the second to last turn and crashes into the wall. Just like that both BAR cars are out.

Lap #14
Juan-Pablo Montoya has made his way back to the points as he overtakes Michael Schumacher for 8th place.

Lap #15
Nick Heidfeld goes a bit wide and Ralf Schumacher overtakes him for 5th place.

Mark Webber leads the race but he hasn’t stopped yet. It’s been a while since we’ve seen Toyota leading the race.

Juan-Pablo Montoya overtakes Fernando Alonso for 7th place.

Lap #16
Robert Kubica retires with a transmission failure.

Jarno Trulli spins and drops down to 12th place.

Fernando Alonso takes his 7th place back from Juan-Pablo Montoya and they both pit at the end of the lap. Webber and di Resta also pit.

Lap #18
Rubens Barrichello, Antonio Pizzonia and Nico Rosberg pit.

Lap #19
Ralf Schumacher pits.

Lap #20
Things have normalized in the leader table as Kimi Räikkönen once again tops it. Toyota’s strategy has elevated Mark Webber to the third place.

Lap #21
Jarno Trulli hits the wall and is forced to retire. His comeback has been a dud so far.

Kimi Räikkönen and Michael Schumacher pit.

Lap #22
Takuma Sato, Christian Klien and Heikki Kovalainen pit.

Lap #23
Kazuki Nakajima’s car catches fire and he retires from the race.

Mark Webber goes wide but he doesn’t lose any places. Neel Jani and Paul di Resta pit.

Lap #24
Nick Heidfeld and Vitaly Petrov pit.

Lap #25
Kimi Räikkönen leads the pack after pit stops. Takuma Sato and Mark Webber are inside 10 seconds though.

Lap #27
Christian Klien retires from the race with a transmission failure.

Lap #30
Antonio Pizzonia’s BMW engine gives up and he too has to retire from the race.

Takuma Sato tries to keep up with Kimi Räikkönen but it’s clear that Mark Webber can’t.

Lap #32
Juan-Pablo Montoya overtakes Fernando Alonso for 7th place.

Lap #33
Vitaly Petrov retires with a suspension failure.

Lap #35
Neel Jani retires with a suspension failure as well.

Takuma Sato has managed to close the gap to Kimi Räikkönen a bit.

Lap #40
Kimi Räikkönen and Takuma Sato are very close together in the lap times and that’s not enough for the Ferrari driver.

Lap #43
Ralf Schumacher overtakes Fernando Alonso for the last point scoring position. Horrible day for McLaren.

Lap #44
Kimi Räikkönen comes home to take his 5th win of the season! He was in complete control from start to finish.

Takuma Sato is second and but it must be disappointing to finish behind his championship rival. The gap between Sato and Räikkönen is now 11 points with four races to go.

Mark Webber does a good job today and takes the third podium step for Toyota. It’s the first podium finish for them since their incredible double podium in San Marino.

McLaren

That couldnt have gone any worse, what a horrific race day. Plans are already going into place for next season regarding suppliers.

A solid result for Ferrari, with Sato behind the Williams duo, he could give them a lot of headaches tomorrow. If Raikkonen retires and Sato wins, the title fight would be a pretty close one.

2004 Italian Grand Prix

Welcome to recap of the 2004 Italian Grand Prix raced on the Monza track. It’s the 15th round of the 2004 season.

Christian Klien overtakes Vitaly Petrov for 11th place.

Lap #5
Juan-Pablo Montoya and Kimi Räikkönen are pulling away from the rest of the pack.

Rubens Barrichello is already 12th.

Lap #7
Rubens Barrichello loses control of his car and hits the wall. His car is totaled and his race is over.

Lap #10
Juan-Pablo Montoya is faster than Kimi Räikkönen who’s falling behind a bit.

His team mate Takuma Sato is 11th after 10 laps.

Lap #11
Ralf Schumacher retires with a water leak.

Juan-Pablo Montoya makes a mistake in a chicane and hits the wall! Montoya is livid with himself after such a bad mistake. Ferrari’s home race has started in disastrous fashion as he’s forced to retire.

Lap #12
Jarno Trulli’s engine is next to give up. Drivers are dropping like flies with mechanical difficulties and crashes.

Lap #14
Takuma Sato overtakes Antonio Pizzonia and he’s already back on the points in 7th place.

Lap #15
Kimi Räikkönen is running away with the race after Montoya’s retirement.

Lap #47
Takuma Sato overtakes Jenson Button again and this time he makes it stick.

Button leaves the door open for Nick Heidfeld who also overtakes the Brit.

Lap #48
Jenson Button’s race goes sour as he retires with a puncture. It’s sixth retirement in a row for him, some because of mechanical failures and some because of his own errors. You can’t get much lower than this.

Lap #50
Kimi Räikkönen has dominated today. Only rival for him was Juan-Pablo Montoya and he crashed out of the race.

Lap #53
Kimi Räikkönen gets the win in Monza! No one had the pace today to challenge him. With his third win in four races the Finn takes a big lead in the driver’s championship and if everything falls into place, he can secure the title in the next race held in China.

Fernando Alonso takes the second place with a solid drive.

After two race absence, Michael Schumacher is back on the podium. Overall, the latter half of the season has went well for the veteran.

Beyond a joke....Atleast it's not as bad as Jenson Button though ;)

Ferrari announces Sato extension, Jaguar signs di Resta as test driver and Vitaly Petrov stays with Jordan

Jaguar also announced they've signed Jordan's driver Paul di Resta as their test driver for 2005 season. di Resta didn't do enough this season to secure a drive for next year as his best finish has been 10th. di Resta's deal is for 1 million.

Jordan also announced they'll keep Vitaly Petrov for 2005 season. The Russian has scored the only points for the team this season. Petrov will be Jordan's second driver and Kazuki Nakajima is pushed to test driver status. Petrov's deal brings 6.5 million to the team.
