I like the way the budgets look like right now, the little teams seem to have enough to do something, but the big teams seem to have enough to have a clear advantage without having enormous untouchable budgets. Good job Syvis

2004 British Grand Prix

Welcome to recap of the 2004 British Grand Prix raced on the Silverstone Circuit. It’s the eleventh round of the 2004 season.

Lap #1
Fernando Alonso gets away well at the start and takes the lead. Juan-Pablo Montoya also overtakes Takuma Sato for the second place.

Lap #2
Felipe Massa and Giancarlo Fisichella both overtake Rubens Barrichello.

Lap #3
Takuma Sato goes wide and when he returns to the track he hits Kimi Räikkönen. Räikkönen’s car suffers enough damage that he has to retire. Kazuki Nakajima hits the debris left by Räikkönen’s car and loses his front wing. Takuma Sato is able to continue the race but he’s in the last place.





Neel Jani spins and drops down to 20th place.

Lap #4
The action continues as Rubens Barrichello goes wide and now he hits Jenson Button when he returns to the track. Both drivers lose their front wings and they both have to pit.





Lap #5
Felipe Massa goes wide and drops down to 10th place.



Lap #6
After all the carnage Fernando Alonso still leads the race.



Neel Jani retires with a transmission failure.



Lap #7
Vitaly Petrov spins and he drops down to 17th place.



Lap #8
Takuma Sato’s race has started horribly as he spins yet again.

Lap #9
Robert Kubica has managed to get to 13th place already as he overtakes Nico Rosberg.



Lap #10
Juan-Pablo Montoya is slowly closing in on Fernando Alonso. Lewis Hamilton has stayed out of trouble in his debut race and he’s incredibly in 4th place after starting at 14th.



Lap #11
Both Jordans are out on the same lap as first Paul di Resta retires with an oil leak and Vitaly Petrov suffers a suspension failure.





Lap #13
Felipe Massa spins out of the track and hits a wall. He retires from the race with the damage sustained in the crash.



Lap #14
Ralf Schumacher has fallen back amidst all the fuss in the first ten plus laps but he has climbed back to 10th place.

Lap #16
Fernando Alonso has opened the gap back up to Juan-Pablo Montoya.



Lap #18
Dan Wheldon is out of the race after his car suffers a transmission failure.



Lap #20
Fernando Alonso still leads Juan-Pablo Montoya by about four seconds.

Giancarlo Fisichella’s race ends abruptly as his engine blows up. It was going well for the Italian until that point.

Fernando Alonso has retaken the lead after the pit stops.

After the extra pit stop for Fernando Alonso, Juan-Pablo Montoya has the lead. Lewis Hamilton continues to turn heads as he’s in the second place in his debut!

Fernando Alonso overtakes Lewis Hamilton for the second place.

Juan-Pablo Montoya leads by over half a minute.

Ralf Schumacher overtakes Nick Heidfeld for 5th place and Michael Schumacher overtakes Lewis Hamilton for the last podium place.

Antonio Pizzonia is yet another driver that suffers a transmission failure in this race.



Juan-Pablo Montoya pits from the lead and he has a big enough gap to stay there too.

Takuma Sato overtakes Heikki Kovalainen for the 7th place.

Fernando Alonso is close to Juan-Pablo Montoya but he may have to pit again.

Lewis Hamilton and Christian Klien pit.

Jenson Button retires, and you guessed it, with a transmission problem. His race was ruined at the start though after he lost his front wing in a collision with Rubens Barrichello. A forgettable home race for him.

Juan-Pablo Montoya can cruise to a win today.

Nothing has changed in the top eight.

The gaps between drivers are big enough that there are no battles happening around the track.



Finish
Juan-Pablo Montoya takes a dominating victory here at Silverstone. We were robbed of a battle for the win after Fernando Alonso suffered technical problems. Amazingly Montoya has not finished lower than second after replacing Alexander Wurz in the second Ferrari seat. With Takuma Sato finishing seventh and Williams not getting any points, Ferrari takes the lead in the constructors championship!



Fernando Alonso crosses the finish line in the second place. There was a win in his horizon but the second place is a good result.



Michael Schumacher spoils the day for the British fans as he finishes ahead of Lewis Hamilton to take the last podium place.

McLaren

Absolute drama - we looked almost guaranteed a double podium including just a 2nd win of the season. However, happy that we outscored Toyota in the battle for 3rd place.

Toyota

A really poor performance from Felipe but we are delighted with Lewis on his F1 debut. We may look into giving Lewis more race time later on in the season pending our uphill battle for 3rd place with Mclaren.

Jordan

The less said the better.

BAR

We'd like to say even less than Jordan.

Arrows

A pretty anonymous race, but we are at list competitive while preparing the next season.

We feel sorry for Kimi, however Sato made great efforts to get to a points-scoring position, showing his greatness.

Sauber is happy with Klien's points finish.

The second driver situation for 2005 will be resolved in the near future.

Jarno Trulli replaces Giancarlo Fisichella at McLaren

McLaren has made a decision to replace Giancarlo Fisichella with another Italian, Jarno Trulli, for the rest of the 2004 season. Fisichella hasn't been able to hang with the teams another driver, Fernando Alonso, this season and with the battle tightening for the third position, they want to try something different. Jarno Trulli will make his 2004 debut in the German Grand Prix. McLaren will pay Jarno Trulli 5 million.

Dan Wheldon gets extension with BAR, three other drivers sign as the driver slots for 2005 season start to fill

It's been a difficult season for BAR but they've announced that Dan Wheldon is remaining at the team for 2005 season. He's been able to score four points to his team mate Jenson Button's five points. Much more was expected especially from Jenson Button and it remains to be seen if he will get an extension. Dan Wheldon's extension is worth 5 million.

In another news, Jordan has signed Arrows' Kazuki Nakajima for next season. Nakajima hasn't been able to do much during the 2004 but he does have two top 10 finishes with one of the worse cars in the grid. Nakajima's deal will bring 6.5 million to a cash strapped Jordan team. Concerning Arrows, they already have a replacement for Nakajima as they've signed Venezuelan Pastor Maldonado for the second seat for 2005 season. There are rumours that another team was offering him a drive too but he chose Arrows. Maldonado's deal will bring 4 million to Arrows' budget for next season.

The fourth driver signing for next season is the German Michael Ammermuller. He has signed to become Ferrari's test driver for 2005 season. Ammermuller's deal costs Ferrari 500 000.

2004 German Grand Prix

Welcome to recap of the 2004 German Grand Prix raced on the Hockenheimring. It’s the 12th round of the 2004 season.

Lap #1
Antonio Pizzonia hits Jenson Button in the first corner and they both spin. Button continues the race in the last place while Pizzonia retires.





Kimi Räikkönen has a great first lap and he rises to the second place. Felipe Massa meanwhile has a bad start to the race as he finds himself in the 9th place after the first lap.

Lap #5
Takuma Sato overtakes Juan-Pablo Montoya and hits his team mate while doing so. Sato doesn’t lose any places but Montoya drops to the 5th place.



Fernando Alonso leads Kimi Räikkönen by two seconds after the first five laps.



Lap #8
Jenson Button is at it again as he tries to overtake Nico Rosberg but they hit eachother. Button drops down to the last place again but Nico Rosberg’s car takes enough damage for him to retire.



Lap #9
Both Renaults have gotten past Felipe Massa who’s now 11th.

Kazuki Nakajima spins and he drops down to the last place.



Fernando Alonso’s gap to Kimi Räikkönen has stayed the same during the last five laps.

Rubens Barrichello loses control of his car and he crashes the wall with force. The Brazilian was fortunately allright.

The gaps in the top 8 still are pretty much the same.

Jenson Button overtakes Robert Kubica and once again the two cars touch. Neither gets any damage though and they continue the race in the 17th and 18th places respectively.

Heidfeld doesn’t give up though and he launches inside after a couple of turns. He hits Jenson Button’s car that flips over. Heidfeld doesn’t sustain damage but Button’s race gets a fitting end.

Kimi Räikkönen has opened up a gap of almost eight seconds in the lead now.

It’s another disappointing weekend for Toyota as Mark Webber retires with a suspension failure.

Neel Jani suffers yet another retirement as his transmission fails. He’s suffered all the bad luck for Sauber in the last three races.

Robert Kubica retires with flames coming out from the back of his car. There’s only 11 runners left in the race after he parks his car at the side of the track.



Elsewhere, things are looking good for Kimi Räikkönen in the lead.

Fernando Alonso has managed to close the gap down a bit during the last five laps.

Takuma Sato makes a unforced error and spins out onto the gravel. He rejoins the track in the fifth place. Ferrari is now without a podium place for the first time in six races.

The gaps have now built so that this is probably the order we’ll get at the end of the race.

Kimi Räikkönen keeps building his lead.

Kimi Räikkönen is back on the top step of the podium after retiring from the last two races. The Finn drove a flawless race while guys around him made mistakes.



Fernando Alonso finishes second for the second time in a row. He’s on a run of four podiums in a row. You’ve got to think a win is just around the corner.



Michael Schumacher finishes up the podium. It’s his second third place in a row. The veteran seems to be turning the corner after a disappointing start to the season.
