Out of the last pair of races, Canada has certainly looked better for Sauber.
The upcoming test session will be a shootout between Jani and Dixon for the second seat for the rest of 2004.

P.S. is it possible to mark the points in the top 8 in the standings? It's just a visual thing but a bit odd :P

2004 United States Grand Prix

Welcome to recap of the 2004 United States Grand Prix raced on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It’s the seventh round of the 2004 season.

Lap #1
Felipe Massa has the lead going into the first turn. He keeps his lead too for the whole lap.



Lap #2
Juan-Pablo Montoya overtakes Dan Wheldon for the 3rd place. Ralf Schumacher tries to make a move on Wheldon too but he hits Wheldon and both spin. Schumacher continues the race in the sixth place but Wheldon falls all the way back to last. The top three get away from the pack because Ralf had spun in the middle of the track and others had to move around him.

Lap #4
Rubens Barrichello has already climbed up to 12th position after he overtakes Neel Jani who’s in his first career F1 race. Giancarlo Fisichella has also been fast at the start and he’s in the 14th place.



Lap #5
Felipe Massa is pulling away in the lead.



Lap #6
Giancarlo Fisichella overtakes Neel Jani and is now 13th.



Lap #9
Dan Wheldon is back on his way to higher positions.



Lap #10
Rubens Barrichello makes an error and drops down to 14th place.



Ralf Schumacher overtakes Mark Webber for the 5th place.



Felipe Massa’s lead is already almost nine seconds. It seems he maybe has chosen a different strategy than the cars behind him.

Nico Rosberg has a problem with his throttle but he manages to get to the pits where the pit crew is able to fix it. Kimi Räikkönen overtakes Mark Webber for 6th place.

Lap #15
Antonio Pizzonia overtakes Jenson Button for the 9th place. Felipe Massa has built a gap of over 12 seconds in the lead.



Lap #16
Juan-Pablo Montoya overtakes Fernando Alonso for the 2nd place.

Lap #17
Michael Schumacher’s Renault suffers a water leak and he’s forced to retire.



Lap #20
Rubens Barrichello is on the rise again as he’s now 11th.



Lap #21
Felipe Massa keeps building his lead.



Lap #22
Mark Webber has worse time than his team mate as he goes wide and drops down to 17th place. Fortunately he’s able to just avoid the barriers.



Ralf Schumacher, Neel Jani, Paul di Resta and Heikki Kovalainen pit.

Jenson Button and Vitaly Petrov pit.

Rubens Barrichello continues his wild race as he once again spins trying to overtake Christian Klien. Giancarlo Fisichella is unfortunate enough to hit Barrichello’s car and his car is too damaged to continue. Barrichello limps back to the pits to change his front wing.

Felipe Massa is still leading the race.

Antonio Pizzonia pits.

Lap #27
Felipe Massa pits and drops down to 3rd place. Vitaly Petrov pits again too because of technical problems.

The weekend started so well for Dan Wheldon but it’s now over as he crashes into the wall and retires. It’s now four DNF’s in a row for him.



Ralf Schumacher is also forced to retire on the same lap because of a puncture.



Juan-Pablo Montoya is now leading the race.

Robert Kubica retires with a transmission failure.



Lap #34
The retirements are now starting to pile up as Paul di Resta’s engine blows up in a spectacular fashion.

Juan-Pablo Montoya is still in the lead but he’s still yet to pit as is Fernando Alonso in the second place.

Juan-Pablo Montoya comes into the pits and drops down to 5th place.

Kimi Räikkönen pits.

Fernando Alonso pits from the lead and drops down to 4th place. Nick Heidfeld also pits on this lap.

Felipe Massa is back in the lead and he’s putting in fastest lap after fastest lap.

Felipe Massa’s transmission fails and he retires from the lead! What a shame! Toyota’s strategy was working perfectly for him.

Mark Webber, Kazuki Nakajima, Nico Rosberg and Jenson Button pit.

Juan-Pablo Montoya is now a strong favourite to win the race.

Nothing happening on the track as there are sizeable gaps between cars.

Fernando Alonso can’t catch Juan-Pablo Montoya so it’s up to Montoya to bring this win home.

Rubens Barrichello overtakes Mark Webber for the 6th place. This is a good result after all the shenanigans at the start of the race.



Lap #70
Juan-Pablo Montoya is four laps away from winning his first race of the season.



Lap #71
Drama! Takuma Sato makes a costly error with regards to championship battle as he goes wide and rams his car into the barriers. They are not happy on the Ferrari pit wall.



Lap #73
Juan-Pablo Montoya starts the last lap of the race in a comfortable lead.

Finish
Juan-Pablo Montoya fares better than his team mate in the last laps of the race and takes the win in the United States Grand Prix!



Fernando Alonso crosses the line in the second place. Will he be happy with that after starting the race from the pole?
 


Kimi Räikkönen takes his 7th podium of the season in the 9th race of the season. Remarkable consistency from him. That’s why he’s in a big lead in the championship points.



Mark Webber retires in the last lap but he keeps his 6th place as Jenson Button’s race is already over after being lapped by the winner.

The reliability settings in this series are beyond a joke. Can't wait to be rid of the Toyota engine.

In other news, Lewis Hamilton will be replacing Mark Webber for the British Grand Prix (Only)

I probably forgot to sort the table.

A suggestion for the results chart. Why don't you show only the point scoring positions with green colour, showing the top 10 finishers can be confusing, as 9th and 10th don't get anything

Whoever performs the best during the next Grand Prix's practice session (between Bruni and Button) will be allowed to race the whole weekend alongside Dan Wheldon. It's a shootout !
