Googleearth scale

I saw a few years ago a tutorial where explains what scale google earth should be to have the exactly circuit length. But I cant remember how.

Sometimes I used not only Google Earth but the Google Maps to scale the road width. Use the path to scale the circuit length.
I use to scale the real road width on my fictional street circuit.
