Season 14, Round 10 - United States GP Qualification

Welcome back to the COTA for the qualification session which will decide the starting order for the round 10 race of this season. Last year the first race at this particular autodrome was held and it was Luke Russell from Christel VXR who scored the best time at the qualification. This year is it unlikely for him to repeat such achievement cos now his team is underperforming badly and currently fights only for 9th place in WCC standings. The drivers championship is mostly decided with Marcus De Bruyker leading comfortably, but the racing goes on and everyone still have their own goals to accomplish. The weather conditions for the session are dry and cloudy for now, but we do expect the slight rain to begin after everyone finish their first runs, so it could affect the balance of power.

We have the first cars to go out and it is Vilela and Rodriguez:

Here is his time as he ends his flying lap:

Rodriguez goes faster than that:

But Ruben Greidanus betters his time with his 1st try:

Paulo Silva is off the pace for now and Mistral boss Eric Moinet will be unhappy if it stays like that:

Chris Hinz with yet another dismal lap as became usual for the AMR this season:

Karda crosses the line with a pretty solid time. He is 3rd for now:

Ryo Sakata with his blank helmet and hopes to build his own team scores 5th result for now:

McClure sets a fastest lap so far and it may serve him well as he currently fights for the second position in drivers championship:

The pair of MMM cars crosses the line and they are 5th and 8th at the moment:

Daniel Bouchard from Canada does well behind the wheel of his Atlantic and second place goes to him:

Now it's time for the second group to hit the track and Matteo Scala shows that he can challenge for the pole at the 1st split:

But the very next corner catches him off the guard and he goes off the track slightly:

Sean O'Neill is the first man to show his result for the second group. It's only P8:

The championship leader Marcus De Bruyker finds himself at the 6th place only:

His teammate manages to take only the 13 spot at the moment:

Only 11th for Gilson:

Kederer puts his Alpha in 7th place:

Scala finaly crosses the line and he is dead last with that mistake we saw earlier:

While Michael Pedersen drives superbly and scores a provisional pole:

McCarthy with the 6th fastest time:

Wow, Luke Russell proves me wrong and challenges for the pole this year as well, but misses it by 7 hundredths:

And Elleker finishes first runs with 13th time:

Daniel Bouchard rushes out the pits to begin his lap as early as he can hoping that the rain won't start just yet:

He manages to improve slightly but not enough to gain a position and stays 4th:

Sakata gains just two spots and he is 15th:

And we have another pole-sitter! It's Daly McClure from Mistral... and we see that the rain has just begun at the main straight:

Ruben Greidanus manages to beat the new fastest time shown by Daly and becomes another pole-man!:

Silva was unable to improve while Gustavo went to 10th from 12th:

Vilela finishes his lap with no improvement but Buitenhuis gained some spots. He is 15th:

Lots of cars finishes without improvements and even De Bruyker can do nothing about it. His second lap would send him into the 20th place only if he wouldn't score a better time in his initial try:

It means troubles for the last eleven guys as we see Kederer, who went out first of them, finds himself far behind the better times after the first split:

And he doesn't even finish his run and decide to turn into pits, just as Joseph Gilson does in front of him. The SCR driver didn't even start his second flying lap, pulling into the pits at the end of his out-lap, and the session is over for him:

Not everyone decided to pit - for example Scala wanted to do something about his last place after that mistake on his previous try, but he clearly can do nothing against the weather today:

With Majumdar crossing the line 20 seconds behind the pole time the session comes to an end:

So, it is Ruben Greidanus, who announced his retirement at the end of the season, takes the pole-position for the race tommorow. Perhaps it could change his mind, but there's not that many free spots are left to fill either, so maybe this can be the last pole of his flourishing and lasting career. Hope you enjoyed and see you tomorrow with the coverage of the race itself. Cheers!

No words...there was just no chance to improve on the second run. Track was too slippery and wet.
Lots of work to do starting from the back.(N)

17th place - a little dismayed that the rain hindered me and Toby from improving our times.

Season 14, Round 10 - United States GP Race

It is a race day today finaly for the round 10 race of GPGSL season 14. Previously we had 11 different drivers winning this event in the past and 4 of them are on the grid today - it is Michael Pedersen, Christopher Hinz, Tobias Kederer and Luke Russell. Yesterday we had rain at the end of the qualification session which has affected results slightly, but today all we have is just a brief drizzle and the track is all dry.

Cars are lined-up and the lights are on:

Greidanus manages to stay ahead:

Smoke comes from the cars as some of them overbrake into the first corner:

It is Greidanus leading over Pedersen and McClure. Looks like Bouchard is fourth:

Pedersen doesn't want to pull back and goes for a move already:

But Ruben Greidanus fights back:

Looks like he is the one who is winning the battle:

But in fact it is Pedersen who gets ahead:

End of lap 1 and looks like Rodriguez is the main loser as he lost out the most out of the top 10:

O'Neill on the other side has gained four spots:

Buitenhuis also lost some places and is currently 18th:

Rodriguez tries a little bit too hard on Kederer and they touch a little:

Sakata gets ahead of Silva at the same corner:

Scala making contact with the SCR of Gilson:

And his nosecone falls off the car:

Buitenhuis makes a slight error and goes wide:

He drops into 21th as Scala heads into pits:

Lap 3 and it is a battle between Russell and Bouchard for P4:

Daniel Bouchard from Canada manages to stay ahead:

While Pedersen consistently goes faster than others and builds a substential gap already:

Vilela overtakes Gustavo for P14:

Majumdar gets ahead of Gilson at the back of the field:

Seems Rodrigo Vilela in a good form today as he did yet another overtake done. This time on O'Neil:

There is a contact between Silva and Gilson, but both cars stay on track:

Buitenhuis couldn't take advantage and also touches the car of Gilson instead:

Pedersen extends his lead further more:

We aproach the middle of the race and it is time for a break. Here's the standings before we pause our coverage:
