Both AMRs involved in incidents. Are we sure we ar using the right AI errors? There seems to be a heck of a lot of accidents in this race so far.

GPGSL Rd 5 Italian GP – Race Day

Part 2

Welcome back.

We have Pedersen ahead of Rodriguez.

They both come in together to take their stop.

De Bruyker and Elleker are both in for their stop.

Elleker rejoins from taking his stop right next to Hinz.

Gustavo is in.

O’Neill is right on the back of Karda coming out of Parabolica.

In for his stop is McClure.

O’Neill has succeeded in getting ahead of Karda.

Hinz and Silva are in.

Karda is back ahead of O’Neill again.

McCarthy is in for his stop.

O’Neill is off at the Ascari chicane.

The replay shows that Hinz made contact with O’Neill, leading to both cars going off onto the grass.

Sakata and Karda are in to take their stop.

The MACs are in battle with each other again, with Pedersen emerging the victor into Rettifilo.

O’Neill manages to get going again, however it’s race over for Hinz.

Gustavo tries for a move on Parachki into Roggia. He gets ahead, but not without contact being made leaving the SCR driver needing to recover.

De Bruyker now has his eyes set on Gustavo’s position.

Now that all of the drivers have made their stop let’s take another look at the standings (De Bruyker got ahead of Gustavo while the standings were being shown hence why Gustavo is shown in both 8th and 9th, 8th before being passed and 9th after being passed)

Vilela has pulled off the track from the race lead.

Transmission Failure brings the race to an end for Vilela.

It’s still a Demon leading the race at least with McCarthy now in 1st.

Buitenhuis is in again for a stop.

The final points position looks like it’ll be fought out between Parachki and McClure.

They make contact into Rettifilo, leaving McClure facing the wrong way and Parachki slightly airborne.

Both cars manage to make it back onto the track and are able to continue.

Parachki will have to start looking in his mirrors soon so that he can make an attempt at holding back O’Neill.

There’s a lot of smoke billowing out from the rear of De Bruyker’s car. He tries to continue on for as long as possible, but can go no further than Curva Grande.

It’s an Engine Failure for the Tyrant driver, and with Kederer out of the race it means there won’t be a change in the driver’s championship standings for both of them.

McCarthy now has his lead out to 5 seconds.

It looks like Majumdar is all by himself.

Hot in pursuit are both MACs and Rodriguez.

Silva could potentially get involved in this battle if he can just get a bit closer.

Rodriguez goes for a move on Greidanus.

And he gets ahead into Rettifilo.

Gustavo finds himself in 7th, no doubt thinking what could’ve been had it not been for the lap 1 turn 1 incident.

The battle for the final points position is far from over between Parachki and O’Neill.

Both Christels are still inside the points.

We have 5 laps remaining in the race.

There’s been another incident at the Ascari chicane, this time involving O’Neill and Parachki.

As the replay shows O’Neill was attempting a move on the SCR, but wasn’t able to make it work and ends up making contact, sending both cars off the road.

Buitenhuis is very lucky to avoid hitting the Alpha as he goes on by.

Now Parachki finds himself at risk of being lapped.

Going by how the top 10 have moved since the start of the race it looks like Karda may end up taking home the point for most places gained.

Greidanus has lost another position to Silva.

There is no danger of losing 9th anytime soon for Karda.

McCarthy has managed to lap Parachki.

Two laps left to go and both Christels are still in the points.

Into the final lap now and Rodriguez looks to be in danger of losing 4th to Silva.

Gustavo goes for a move on Greidanus into Rettifilo.

And he succeeds in getting ahead.

Further back McClure goes for a move on Russell for 10th.

And he too also succeeds in getting by.

McCarthy takes the chequered flag and wins the Italian GP.

Majumdar takes 2nd.

Pedersen rounds off the podium in 3rd, and just behind him Rodriguez has managed to hold onto his 4th position.

Congratulations Gareth McCarthy and Demon Racing, our Rd 5 winner.

AI errors were set to 40 which is what it says in the Season 14 race calender for Monza so they should be correct.

3 incidents in a row? Get the hell out of here, what a failure of a race, a potential top 10 finish lost.

What a chaotic race. I was lucky enough to bring some points home after a miserable weekend...

This was basically a russian roulette. Several people got lucky, others not so much :)

Gutted for Rodrigo- think from memory he was leading at Monza last season as well before a mechanical DNF.....
Great job by Gareth to bring home a win, in an otherwise odd and crazy race....

An overall rather good race for the team with a good haul of points. A shame Paulo didn't have a chance to pass Carlos and Michael as he was closing on them drastically at the end, we were missing a couple of laps to do so. Still, a good result with both cars in Top 10.

A pretty poor race for us gaining no points. Lot of incidents and was exciting for the fans but in the car not so much. Hope the next race will better for the team points wise.

Woohoo! Amazed that despite being off track myself twice, I've snuck in for the win. Would have been very happy though with a second and Rodrigo's car not failing. Crazy race!

Wow, nice race for Dom who scored some points after being involved in some accident in the early stage of the race. Signing him was a good idea (Y)

First podium of the season feels great but it would have obviously been better if both cars got points today.
Tough luck for my teammate.

Indeed a quite chaotic race, but if the correct AI errors were used, it's the way it is. However, since there's often a general frustration after such races, it might be a good idea to consider generally lower AI-errors next season. On the other hand, such chaos races often give a chance to backmarkers, so it's not all bad.

For the race, it's a pity that Matteo was caught in that incident. Strangely, both cameras and our data center were offline in the moment it happened, so we can't be quite sure what led to the accident. Carlos meanwhile showed how you need to drive such a race. Calm and with a steady pace so that you can profit from the mistakes of others. Stellar drive, Carlos. I'm proud of your performance.

This doesn't change the fact, however, that our car performance still isn't where we want it to be.
