GPGSL Rd 5 Italian GP – Race Day

Part 1

Hello once again as we return to Monza for the race for the race drivers. Let’s not waste any more time and head trackside for the start.

Weather Report

All the cars are lined up on the grid awaiting the start. Once all the lights go out it’ll be on.

They’re off!

There is a lot of three wide action on the run down to Rettifilo.

Vilela gets ahead and takes the lead, while behind him Kederer attempts to make a move on Gustavo which doesn’t work out for him, resulting in contact between the reigning champion and the MMM. De Bruyker is unfortunately caught up in the moment and spins off onto the grass.

McCarthy had to go off track in an attempt to avoid hitting anyone, and is very lucky not to take any damage after contact with the other MMM of Buitenhuis. In the other MMM Gustavo will no doubt not be a happy man.

Both Gustavo and De Bruyker manage to get going again, albeit a long way back in the field.

It’s the Demon of Vilela out in the lead, followed by Kederer and Majumdar.

There’s a big accident in the Ascari chicane involving Scala and one of the Mistrals.

De Bruyker makes his way by the damaged MTP as we see the notice for Vilela taking the fastest lap.

There’s another incident, this time involving Elleker and Williams at Parabolica. Elleker will have to pit for a new rear wing, however Williams’s race is over.

According to the timing McCarthy has managed to get up to 5th.

Both MACs are now inside the top 10 and look to be in battle against each other, which will no doubt leave McGregor a bit anxious watching it unfold.

One wrong move from the MACs and they’ll be in danger of being passed by Buitenhuis.

Greidanus goes for a move on Pedersen down the main straight.

And succeeds in getting ahead at Rettifilo, leaving Pedersen to defend his position from the MMM.

Gilson looks to have had a slight lockup going into Roggia, allowing Silva to get by him easily.

It also allows Karda to get by as well.

There’s contact made between Gilson and Karda at the Ascari chicane.

Karda is very lucky to avoid taking damage, however the same can’t be said for Gilson as he is hit by McClure.

That’s race over for the SCR driver.

Majumdar has managed to get ahead of Kederer.

That’s Buitenhuis off at the Lesmos. He hits the wall and fortunately only loses the rear wing, however he will find it a bit of a struggle to make it back to the pits for repairs.

Vilela is enjoying his time out in front with a 2 second lead.

Silva and Parachki go side by side coming out of Parabolica.

Into Rettifilo and it’s the SCR that gets ahead.

Both Christels currently sit just outside the top 10 with Sakata ahead of Russell.

Buitenhuis has managed to get back to the pits for a new rear wing.

Let’s check out the standings as we ride onboard with Vilela.

Kederer looks to be losing time to Hinz and McCarthy.

Hinz and Kederer are both off at the Ascari chicane. There must’ve been contact between them.

Kederer has ended up backing into McCarthy as the Demon driver tried to get through without making contact. By sheer luck McCarthy avoids taking damage, but for Kederer it is race over for him.

We have a battle taking place between the two Christels.

Sakata manages to stay ahead, leaving Russell to defend his position from Gustavo.

De Bruyker is now back up to 14th.

It looks like Gustavo has managed to get ahead of Russell.

Team boss Sheppard will be very pleased watching the current progress of his drivers, who sit in 1st and 3rd.

AMR will be hoping that Hinz can bring home a decent haul of points.

Likewise for MTP with Rodriguez.

Onboard with De Bruyker on the run down to the Ascari chicane as he attempts to make a move on Russell.

His move will have to wait it seems.

Maybe not, as he gets it done through Parabolica.

Vilela is the first driver to make his stop, kicking off the pitstops.

There are quite a lot of cars in to take their stop.

Vilela has managed to rejoin in 5th ahead of Silva.

Majumdar rejoins ahead of De Bruyker.

It looks like Tyrant may have told Majumdar to move over to allow De Bruyker to get ahead.

With the pitstops underway let’s take a look at the standings again.

This looks like a good time to take a break. We hope to go through to the end of the race when we return.

After making so many positions at the start, shame for Tobi to drop out. Sean looking quite good having already pitted.

Slightly off topic - Is the string of accidents at Monza a common feature for all Monza tracks created for the game?
