Good qualifying result from Atlantic boys. With some improvements during the race some good points in the sight.

Looks like only Matteo is already familiar with the new car. Tough first round so far. Let's see what is possible in the race.

P17, another disappointing result to start the season. Let's hope race could be a factor for me and the team.

Oh, so close to getting first pole of the new season, just .002 seconds off.

Hopefully a sign of good things to come this season.

Eagerly awaiting race day.

Outpaced by rookies and a new team - very bizarre qualifying

Not the best start to the season, but let's see if we can improve in the race.

Joseph Gilson :: Southern Cross Racing :: Race Driver
GPGSL Rd 1 Australian GP – Tester’s Feature Race

Hello and welcome to Melbourne, the venue for Rd 1 of the GPGSL championship. Up next is the feature race for the test drivers, where hopefully we get to see how the pace of each team is looking ahead of the race for the race drivers. It’s time to head trackside as we prepare for the start.

Weather Report

Here we go. The cars are all lined up awaiting the start. O’Brien is on pole, with returning driver Houston alongside him. Once the 5 lights go out it’ll be on.

Away we go!

Russell is off on the grass.

The replay shows that Keranen was making a move, but was unable to avoid making slight contact leaving the Christel out wide and off the track.

He manages to make it back ontrack and is able to continue on.

It’s a comfortable lead for O’Brien for the time being.

Michail is all over the back of the MMM.

Savio looks to be under a lot of pressure from the cars behind him.

O’Brien takes the fastest lap, but unlike the race drivers it has no effect in regards to the testers championship.

Karda attempts to make a move through turn 1, but is unsuccessful and allows the cars behind to close in.

Unseen by the cameras Michail has managed to get ahead of Szucs.

It looks like Hollidge lost at least two positions.

McGregor sits just one position shy of the points, with both Soutsen and Sheppard behind chasing him down.

Soutsen goes for a move, but is unable to get ahead of the MAC.

We have a few group battles taking place.

Stoddart has dropped back a few positions and now has to defend from Copeman.

There’s been contact made between the Alpha and MAC.

Keranen won’t be too impressed with what just happened.

McGregor once again is defending from Soutsen. We also get to check out how the top 10 has moved since the race start.

Keranen was able to rejoin the track, but is now under attack once again.

There’s contact made between McGregor and Soutsen.

Both drivers run off the track, though Soutsen is able to quickly rejoin without losing too many positions. McGregor however ends up rejoining behind the Mistral.

That’s way too close for comfort between Cronin and Ingers. No doubt there was contact between the two.

Indeed there was. Cronin spins out, and Ingers is sent off the track.

Cronin won’t be too happy with himself.

Out front O’Brien still leads, though it looks like Michail is slowing closing in on him.

Let’s take a look at the current standings.

Both Greenhalgh and Cremasco are off in the grass.

Replay shows that Greenhalgh had made a move on Cremasco, but hadn’t gotten far enough up to clear him without making contact. That results in contact being made, sending Cremasco slightly airborne, and Greenhalgh spinning out on the grass.

Somehow Cremasco is able to rejoin with only one position lost.

Greenhalgh however is not so lucky.

The cameras manage to get a great view of the new look Demon as Sheppard heads through the first few corners.

Beggani is doing well so far sitting inside the top 5.

Warrington goes for a move on the Mistral.

He manages to get ahead, but not without leaving enough space. Beggani ends up on the grass, and loses a few more positions as he recovers.

Houston has Szucs in his sights.

The MMM is off in the sand.

Suspension Failure brings the race to an end for the MMM driver.

We have Tyrant vs AMR at the front of the field, and Tyrant vs AMR near the rear of the field.

Stoddart sits in 6th, though he will need to keep a watch out for Beggani behind him.

Soutsen locks up and runs out wide.

This is the closest Michail has gotten to the back of O’Brien.

She tries for a move into turn 1 but is unsuccessful in getting ahead.

Michail is the first driver in for their stop.

There’s been a big incident in the background involving one of the MTPs.

The replay shows that it was due to contact between Savio and Karda that led to the MTP going on it’s roof.

The car rolls back over without any signs of damage being inflicted.

Russell is seen exiting the pits after taking his stop.

Michail and Cremasco have both gone off.

Hollidge goes off as well.

As the replay shows there was contact made from behind which led to the Tyrant running off the road.

Time for us to break a short break. We’ll be going to the end when we return.

GPGSL Rd 1 Australian GP - Tester's Feature Race

Part 2

Cronin comes in for his stop.

He rejoins at the rear of the field.

More pitstop action is about to take place.

Warrington now sits in 9th after rejoining from taking his stop.

One way or another Tyrant and AMR keep finding themselves in battle with each other.

Race leader O’Brien is now in for his stop.

Calligaris and Stoddart are in as well.

O’Brien rejoins in 3rd.

Calligaris rejoins ahead of Warrington, forcing the SCR driver to slow down in order to avoid making contact. It also allows Michail a chance to make a move.

Greenhalgh is seen leaving the pits, and Ingers is in for his stop.

Both Cronin and Karda are forced to slow down to avoid contact with the rejoining Alpha and AMR.

In comes Copeman for his stop.

Houston leads, but will need to come in eventually to take his stop.

Copeman rejoins right in the middle of the battle between Warrington and Michail.

Beggani gets the best view of what is happening ahead of him.

In comes Houston for his stop.

That gives the lead back to O’Brien.

We have more pitstop action taking place.

With all drivers asides from Sheppard having made their stop let’s take a look at the standings.

Sheppard is finally in.

He rejoins near the back end of the top 10.

Keranen and McGregor are in battle once again.

We have a battle taking place over the final points position.

Greenhalgh could soon be joining the battle if he can manage to get closer.

Soutsen succeeds in getting ahead of Russell.

7 laps left for Houston to try and close the gap to O’Brien.

Greenhalgh has managed to get ahead of Maverick.

5 laps left to run.

Cronin is off near the final corner.

Karda now has Cremasco all over the back of him.

It looks like Karda had chosen to slow down slightly going by the gap between him and Ingers.

Suspension Failure ends Cronin’s race.

Cremasco easily gets ahead of Karda into turn 1.

Let’s check out the standings again as the timing shows there are 4 laps left.

Copeman is trying his best to close in enough on Michail in the battle for 5th.

A lap later and he finally got ahead.

We have another Suspension Failure, this time for Sheppard.

Not long left to go now for O’Brien.

Russell now sits in the final points position and is under attack from Greenhalgh.

Greenhalgh goes for a move into turn 1, but Russell is able to keep him back.

Maverick had to slow down to avoid contact, which allowed Hollidge to close in.

Hollidge makes a successful move on the MTP and moves up a position.

O’Brien comes through the last corner for the final time.

And he takes the chequered flag to win the tester’s feature race.

Houston comes home in 2nd to cap off a remarkable return to the GPGSL.

Calligaris takes the final podium position.

It’s not quite over yet between Russell and Greenhalgh.

The Christel driver just barely manages to hold onto 12th at the flag.

Savio makes it home in last place despite the earlier rollover that should’ve put him out of the race.

Congratulations to Greg O’Brien and Tyrant Motorsports, the winner of the tester’s feature race for Rd 1.
