Great news and hopefully very promising.
I hope that they take the F1 licence from Code masters.
Who for all the great graphics and simulation have continually failed for years to give true fans what they need even simple things like spectator view also allowing the AI to race against each other and instant replay to name but a few. The list goes on I honestly can not wait to see the back of them. Even with all their glitz and special effects they still can not achieve the level of entertainment set by Microprost and G. Cramond all those years ago. Sweet news.

Come on, taking F1 license from Codemasters looks like 0,1% possible. If they're coming not for creating the army simulators or whatever it is called (ArmA and so on), I think they should aim for creating a generic moddeable racing sim with good physics and AI though. Rfactor cars for example still can't sleepstream each other, which makes AI totally stupid, so I don't play it, even though the physics are much superior compared to GP4.

I am not too excited yet. They were good back in 2001 when games were much simpler, and when gamers were much less demanding. They have been out of game development since those days, so I am not sure if GP5 (if it comes) will be as good as GP4. But we can hope, of course. If they take the strong points from GP4 and simply make a very moddable game..

And they shouldn't buy the F1 license. It'll really limit how much the game can be modded.

True, they won’t be able to get a license and make it moddable at the same time nowadays.
Better make a fictional F1 game and let the community make the mods for it.
But then again, that would drastically limit their sales of that game and it may not be profitable to even start developing it..

Yes maybe right to not wait to buy the license but produce a moddable racing sim maybe the answer. In addition Code masters are not a large company so it would be whether or not microprose could out bid them for the F1 license providing they really wanted it ... So not so impossible just who's more interested and who has the most financial clout.

The F1 license is not relevant, what is importante is to make a GP5 with the same engine as the past F1GP, GP2, GP3, GP4.
The F1GP had no F1 license, and it was a great game.

I agree, rfactor1,2, codemasters and co... are great graphics, but are not playable like the GP´s series.

The license is very important because even if Microprose create an indescriminate F1 game that is open to modding and that modding involves official F1 teams cars etc F.O.M. will be straight on it ..... it does not happen here because GP4 is an old game and as such no threat as we are non profitable but a newer more current sim might pose a different question.

Microprose has just announced a couple of new games (including screenshots and videos). So they are obviously takeing it serious (which i didn't believe in the begining).

It's strange, but we have never been closer (even though still very far away, probably...) to a sequel of the grand prix series since the shut down of the microprose studios back in 2003.
