Tutorial - How to modify the rearlight.ini file into gp4tweaker by Excalibur

Posted by Excalibur
Hi Folks! :)

Here is a short and quick tutorial to show you how to modify the rearlight.ini file into gp4tweaker:

1- Tool required (if not installed yet): gp4tweaker_v1045_reloaded: [www.mediafire.com]
2- What is the aim of this tutorial?: The aim is to activate more than 1 rear ambient light (useful for the F1 2019, for example or other categories) and to set the x,y,z coordinates for each rear ambient light.
3- Into a gp4 car file, what is the object related to the ambient rear light?: this is the rear_light_on object. You can get 1 or more rear_light_on surfaces/objects merged into this single object.
Example with the F1 2019:

4- How the rear_light_on and rear ambient light works in game?: In dry conditions, the rear_light_on object appears when you brake and disappears when you release the brake. In wet conditions, the rear_light_on object will be always activated with a rear ambient light to simulate the rear light glow effect

5-How to activate the rear_light brake and rear ambient position for the game?
Open the gp4tweak.ini file and set on 1 for these 2 lines:
RearLightBrake = 1 ; set to 1 to enable rear light braking tweak
AmbientPos = 1 ; set to 1 to enable rear light ambient position

6-How to set more than 1 rear ambient light if my rear_light_on object got 3 rear_lights?
1- Open the rearlight.ini file from the gp4tweak_data folder (this folder must be into your main Grand Prix 4 folder)
2- Edit the value02 for each driver and set this value on 3 (you can set until 4 rear ambient light). You should get this:

7-How do I edit the rearlight.ini file to set the x,y,z coords for each rear_ambient light? I can only edit the coords for 1 rear ambient light!
Indeed, here is the rearlight.ini file by default:

8- How to get the x,y,z coordinates for each rear_light?
1- open the car with GP4Builder by Lo2k
2- double-click on scenes/ scene1 (or scene2 if the car is locked)/ rear_light_on object/ part0/ and select one face of the first rear_light (if possible, better is to choose a face close from the middle of the rear_light). double click on a face and choose a vertex. A window appears with x,y,z coordinates
3- Report the x,y,z position on the rearlight.ini file
4- Click on up to select another face, then another vertice for each rear_light

Example here:

Right rear_light

Left_rear_light

central rear_light

When you have got the x,y,z coordinates from your 3 rear_light, report them into the rearlight.ini file
Personaly, I use the [REAR_LIGHT_AMBIENT01_POS] settings for the central rear_light, [REAR_LIGHT_AMBIENT02_POS] for the right rear_light and [REAR_LIGHT_AMBIENT03_POS] for the left rear_light .... But you can do as you wish....
So, for each driver (car of your wad) you have to report x,y,z coords of each rear_light into [REAR_LIGHT_AMBIENT01_POS], [REAR_LIGHT_AMBIENT02_POS]and [REAR_LIGHT_AMBIENT03_POS] to get your rear ambient light positions in game

I hope that it is clear enough. If not, sorry for my english and don't hesitate if you have any questions ;-)

thank you for resolving this.

Great tutorial, thank you Arnaud :)

I noticed also that if you add a 4th ambient glow with exactly same values as the first one, you will get a slightly bigger/brighter glow for the center light:

Never knew F1 2019 cars now have rear lights on the rear wing lol.

Good thing to know, Heikki! Thank you! ;-)

you guys are simply amazing (Y):-)
Arnaud , thanks a lot for the tutorial . Do you know if the Y and Z coordinates from GP4builder must be inverted on the rearlight.ini file as usually has to be done ?

Hi Ricardo!

Indeed, I should have precised it.
X, Y, Z into GP4Builder= X, Z, Y into Gp4Tweaker.

Example:
1- Into Gp4builder: X= -0.037; Y= -3.036; Z= -0.253

You have to report these values into the Rearlight.ini file like this:
X= -0.0370 ; Y= -0.2530 ; Z= -3.0360

Thanks for your reply and for the tutorial once again (Y)
Thank you a lot Excalibur for the detailed tutorial!!! Much appreciated!!
Thank you, guys!

Just a tip to save time: When you have got the coordinates x,y,z for the left or right rear light, to get the other rear light x,y,z coordinates, just invert the X value to positive or negative

Example:
1- Ferrari SF90 left rear light: X= -0.508 ; Y= -3.130 ; Z= 0.277 into Gp4 Builder
2- So, Ferrari SF90 right rear light coordinates are: X= 0.508 ; Y= -3.130 ; Z= 0.277
3- Into the rearlight.ini file, don't forget to write the coordinates in this order: X;Z;Y. You will get at the end:

[REAR_LIGHT_AMBIENT02_POS] (left ambient light)
= -0.5080, 0.2770, -3.1300

[REAR_LIGHT_AMBIENT03_POS] (right ambient light)
= 0.5080, 0.2770, -3.1300

Hi.

I understood Excalibur's reasoning and extended the application for these cars:
Ferrari by Excalibur
Renault, Haas, Williams, Racing Point and Mercedes by Hega
Red Bull and Toro Rosso by Gezere
Alfa Romeo and Mclaren converted by rrcunis
11th team RSCT shape
Do as follows:
Save the rearlight 2019.ini file in the Gp4tweak_data folder
In Tweaker select line 31 Rear Light Glow Position
Import the rearlight 2019.ini file
Do not forget:
Enable the Rear Light Glow Position box for all drivers
Select the box 3 GLOWS for all drivers
Click Aplly
Please test and check for errors.

Hi guys, can i ask an advice on a strange issue i have with the rear ligths?
They don't always appear with the glow, only with heavy rain [ibb.co] , with light rain or intermediate conditions they don't appear [ibb.co]
Any ideas?
Anyone has same or similar issue?
Thanks.

Hi!

This is not an issue but the way the game was coded.
Correct me if I am wrong but as I said into the tutorial (4) the rear_light glow is enable in wet conditions only.
Dry or intermediate conditions= No rear_light glow

Yes, but in the second image i was driving in wet conditions (light rain but was wet), it started raining during the race.
If a race starts dry and during the race it starts raining, the rear ligth doesn't glow?
Thanks.
