AI is extremely stupid

Hi people!

It's been some time and got the stuff working again just fine :-)

I'm experiencing one problem...the AI! They are so stupid from time to time.
Is there a way to improve the AI without getting a performance of 50000?

For example, I will let the AI race (without me) in Melbourne for the full 100% (58 rounds if I'm correct).
I've changed their performances to 25000 (I hoped they didn't crash that much) but after the finish line only 6 cars survive (it was raining, that must be said) ?????

If the performances is on 18000 the same thing happens :(

Anyone who has an opinion about it, please share :)

The GP4 AI seems to be still the best around, which is why cars react differently depending on the situation. In the "performance" file you find for each driver four numbers separated by commas, of which the second and the fourth is the value of the probability of failure in qualifying and in the race. Even if you change these parameters you will see that the cars leave the track or collide the same, because the race situations are multiple.

GP4's AI is still the best, and what is so beautiful about it is that, not only was it miles ahead if its time, but you can customise everything.
So go to the track's magic data file, find the entry for AI mistakes, and reduce it. Then as Mortal says, reduce the chance of the AI suffering a failure by editing the performance file. There is information on here if you look carefully. A value of 5000-6000 gives realistic 90s 2000s failure levels.

The AI in GP4 is far from stupid. The method you're using to alter their performance is wrong.

Use the Magic Data as described above.

Thank you guys!

I will look into it :)

A lot of things have their influence on the AI's behaviour. Once, a player reported, the AI-cars would collide more often, the more heavier the cars are. So lowering the car's weight in the physics-file could also reduce collisions and -probably- driving mistakes as well.

Wait is this true? I always thought that this was some kind of variable, eg. If you set performance to 17000 and the other number to 50, it means the driver can bi as slow as 16950 or as fast as 17050...
I learn something new every day :D

You are right, he's incorrect, the failure setting is on the line with the team name. It goes power, power, failure chance I think!

Sorry. You are right. I got confused

In the square brackets the Team number must be indicated; after "Name" the name of the car and of the engine (not necessary); after performance you will have to report the car power values in BHP respectively, from left to right, for the race and for the Qualifications, and the value of failures for the Team.
Then, after First Driver and Second Driver, you will have to report the names of the drivers, with the performance values for the race (left) and qualifications (right), associated with the skill ranges. We will see later, in this tutorial, that the compilation of the values of performance and skill of the riders should not be done randomly.

[Team #00] Name= Ferrari, Ferrari
Performance=874,875,200
First Driver=1,Michael Schumacher,15900,80,16500,50
Second Driver=2,Rubens Barrichello,15700,200,16300,150

Taken from a tutorial if I'm not mistaken by Samuele Pinna on "Ilmiotempolibero.Il” (I always hope I'm not wrong).

I noticed, that in some mods, the performance file don´t change in every race in gpxpatch.

About the "AI stupidity", there is a thing that is really stupid: Some times, when a AI car has a failure, he passes the pit lane without going in for repairing the car. But only sometimes:-)

I had a race on Talladega where a AI car had a transmision failure and just stopped in the middle of the track. Sometimes they stop on the wall or drive into the grass but not this time. A pack of cars came behind, some drove past but some others DISASTER! :-O

Frentzen did that at Nurburgring 1999. I mean in real life. Transmission locked, no way to move the car. Seems the AI is very realistic, right ?

Yeah indeed! With a Engine failure or Oil/water Leak the car will not stop in the pitlane. Somehow strange isn't it? :o

The AI of gp4 is still unmatched today. I spectated maybe some hundred AI races, there were a lot of epic ones. Yes, the AI does make sometimes stupid mistakes, but don't forget there was no support anymore very soon the game was released. A huge shame tbh.

My Grand Prix 4 Files

I'm a total dick. How many people can say that?

This is true! It is still now unmatched, thats why we like it so much since F1GP or even REVS!
