GPGSL Rd 2 Japanese GP - Race Day

Part 2

Welcome back to our coverage of the Japanese GP.

De Bruyker has lost time to his teammate.

Team Owner O’Brien will surely be feeling nervous at the sight of seeing his two drivers battling each other.

Elleker is now the sole remaining AMR driver left in the race and seems to still hold a comfortable lead over Rodriguez.

Let’s take a look at the standings again.

Rodriguez must be feeling like he is being hunted down.

De Bruyker is getting closer and closer to Rodriguez.

He goes for a move into Degnar 1.

Rodriguez holds onto his position.

Kederer may soon find himself getting involved in the battle for the final few podium spots.

Steer is slowly closing in on Worseling.

How much longer can Rodriguez hold off De Bruyker for? Having to defend his position is also causing him to lose time to Elleker.

Into 130R and De Bruyker goes for a move.

It’s still on into Casino Triangle.

Rodriguez somehow manages to holds onto 2nd.

Warrington will have seen that move take place ahead of him.

Unseen by the cameras Legge has lost a position to O’Neill.

Silvestre goes for a move on Steer into Degnar 1.

Steer manages to keep hold of his position.

Elleker will be enjoying his time out in the lead knowing full well his closest challenger is in defending mode.

Out of Spoon and it looks like De Bruyker has yet another run on Rodriguez.

Side by side again through 130R.

Again Rodriguez manages to hold onto his position.

Pitstops are now underway as Elleker is the first one in for his stop.

Also in are De Bruyker and Kederer.

Gilson and Scala are also in.

Elleker rejoins in 14th, but finds himself straight on the defensive.

Rodriguez must be feeling relieved now that he doesn’t have to defend from De Bruyker.

In comes Warrington.

Also in are Van Smirren and O’Neill.

Steer is also in to take his stop.

Russell goes for a move on Silvestre.

And he succeeds in getting ahead.

Into Degnar 1 and Silvestre is looking to retake back the position.

Which he does before Degnar 2.

Vilela is in from 2nd for his stop.

Silvestre is also in.

Russell is out wide through Degnar 1 as Elleker goes on by.

De Bruyker has a chance to close in on Elleker, but with the traffic in front of him it’ll be a difficult feat for the Tyrant driver.

Rodriguez is in. It’ll be interesting to see where he emerges.

Legge and Worseling are in as well.

Mills is also in.

Rodriguez rejoins behind Elleker and in front of both Tyrants.

Warrington has gotten ahead of De Bruyker.

Rodriguez now has to deal with Russell.

He makes a move into Degnar 1.

And the MTP driver gets ahead. That leaves him free to start chasing down Elleker.

Next on the list to get by Russell is Warrington.

Jalving is now in for his stop.

McClure is also in.

Warrington finally gets ahead of Russell.

Russell heads into the pits for his stop.

We have a battle going on between Kederer and De Bruyker as Vilela watches on.

Kederer gets ahead of the Tyrant and Vilela attempts to get by as well.

Keranen is in for his stop.

This is our battle for the lead of this race.

As we ride onboard with De Bruyker, let’s check out the standings after nearly all drivers have made their stop.

One final break. When we return we'll be going through to the end of the race.

Brilliant defensive driving from Carlos so far, I'm very proud of him to hold onto this 2nd and keeping him out longer, despite the worn down tyres, paid of as well since he stayed out of traffic. Now bring it home, man! We need this podium.

Matteo is struggling all day long, unfortunately. Keep pushing, though, maybe we can profit at the later stage of the race.

Good race so far by both drivers. I don't mind if they battle each other as long as it doesn't end in contact between them.

Anonymous race for me.. Lost 1 place during the pitstops.

Taken out by someone else for the 2nd time in a row. Not cool...

Unfortunate to make a mistake, it's really sort of thrown the race away. An in-race test session, and we should be back on form come next round.

P10 right now, I'm not sure about our strategy though whether it's good or not.

Glen: "Are you OK, Rodrigo?"
Vilela: "The car is shaking a bit, but nothing to bother."
Glen: "Watch out for the track, it's starting to rain."
Vilela: "No problem, boss. The track is the way I like it!"

It all depends on if we crash somewhere or not.

Part 3

Welcome back for the final time.

Silva is the last driver in to make their stop.

Rodriguez has made up ground on Elleker.

We have Elleker in the lead.

Chasing him down is Rodriguez.

Further back is Warrington, who is on course to become the championship leader should he finish where he currently stands.

Kederer hasn’t had the pace to run in the top 3, but he should still be fine with a top 5 finish.

De Bruyker had fantastic pace just before his stop. Now he finds himself chasing down Kederer for 4th.

Vilela has fallen back quite a bit from the cars ahead of him.

A top 10 finish for Jalving would be considered a decent result for Demon.

It hasn’t been going so good for Gilson so far.

McClure is closing in on the reigning champion and might be set for a move pretty soon.

De Bruyker looks to have gotten ahead of Kederer.

And he has done it.

Van Smirren finds himself in 10th.

Scala won’t be too happy with how his race has been going.

O’Neill has a hold on the final points position.

Legge has a chance to take it from the Alpha driver if he can close in more.

Silva hasn’t really been able to improve since running off the road earlier.

Steer is holding down 15th currently.

The pace hasn’t really been there for Silvestre throughout the race.

Worseling would surely want to be inside the top 10 instead of the top 20.

The race has been quite uneventful for Mills so far.

The same can’t be said for Russell though.

Keranen lost a lot of time when recovering from his earlier spin. That’s why he hasn’t been able to move up from 20th.

Back to the battle for the lead and Rodriguez looks even closer now.

He goes for a move through 130R.

And Rodriguez moves into the lead.

The battle between Gilson and McClure continues on.

It looks like Van Smirren may soon be joining in the battle.

Scala also looks likely to get involved as well.

Warrington has managed to close in on Elleker.

Into Degnar 1 and McClure is trying for a move on Gilson.

He isn’t able to get by.

Silva is making a move on Legge on the run down to 130R.

And he succeeds in getting by.

Warrington makes a move on Elleker through Degnar 1.

And the Tyrant driver succeeds in getting ahead.

McClure makes a move on Gilson through 130R.

He can’t make it by this time.

The Mistral driver isn’t ready to give up just yet.

Though that could change as Van Smirren is closer to the back of him.

Time to check out the standings again.

Elleker may soon find himself under pressure if the cars behind keep closing in on him.

4 laps left to go.

De Bruyker has gotten closer to the back of Elleker.

Back down the order we see that Silva has gotten ahead of O’Neill.

De Bruyker goes for his move on the run up to 130R.

And the Tyrant driver gets it done.

Behind them Jalving and Kederer are involved in their own battle.

Jalving lost time through Casino Triangle and that has allowed Vilela to close in on him.

Unseen by the cameras McClure has managed to get ahead of Gilson.

Jalving isn’t giving up yet in his attempt to get ahead of Kederer.

He goes for the move through 130R.

Kederer defends his position and leaves Jalving to now worry about defending his position from Vilela.

Elleker probably has the feeling of relief right now.

It’s still on between Kederer and Jalving.

Jalving still can’t get by the Alpha.

Down the order we see Russell going for a move on Mills.

That’s not the way to try and make a move. Russell locks up and almost takes out Mills in the process.

Jalving tries again to get by Kederer, this time through Degnar 1.

And again he can’t get by.

Only a few corners left to go now for Rodriguez.

Rodriguez takes the Chequered Flag to win the Japanese GP.

Warrington takes 2nd, and also takes the championship lead.

De Bruyker takes the final podium spot.

Kederer manages to hold onto his 5th position after holding off Jalving for so long.

Steer has lost a position to Mills.

Congratulations to Carlos Rodriguez, the winner of Rd 2.

The race is finally over, and what a race it was. Congratulations once again to Carlos Rodriguez and MTP. He fought hard all throughout the first stint while trying to chase down Elleker, and his second stint was much better as it gave him the chance he needed to get ahead. And once he got into the lead he was pretty much untouched till the end. If he can continue performances like this in more races he may just have a chance at the championship. Anyways, that wraps up our coverage of the race. We hope you enjoyed it, and we’ll see everyone back here once again when we bring you the coverage for Rd 3. So until then, it’s goodbye from Suzuka.

Awful race as usual... Throw some boost to the garbage again.

At least McClure could bring some point to our team today.

Extremely pleased with the result we got here today, and that means a celebration is in order. Still early days in the season but I'm pretty sure we can continue to be fighting for our spot in the top positions for both championships.

Good performance from the DMR guys. Shame we couldn't get past the Alpha, to press on in the final stages. A good day out for Demon Racing.
