Good signs for the DMR engines at Monza. Hope to now have a decent points finish for both Charrel and myself....

GPGSL Team Owner Debut - Melbourne, Season 8 - present
GPGSL Test Debut - Hungary, Season 4. GPGSL Race Debut - Adelaide, Season 5.
GPGSL Season 12, Round 12 - Feature Race @ Monza, Italy

The main man from Tyrant Motorsports, Greg O'Brien sits on pole...

The field head towards turn 1, with pole sitter O'Brien having a sluggish start. Sheppard will have the inside line, with Karda in front...

Sheppard takes the lead, whilst all other 21 cars are in shot here, clouds of brake dust throughout the pack....

The front of the pack appears to have negotiated the tricky first chicane with no real drama....

Not so good for Pedersen though, as he bizarrely is on the grass off the racing line....

The Dane drops all the way to last....

Ahead, it is an SCR battle, with Stoddart and Gilson fighting for position...

Underneath the old track for the first time, towards the Ascari chicane...

Yellow flags out, as Lap 1 is just about done, with positions 1-8 shown...

Positions 9-16...

And 17-22....

A quick rewind by the RD, sees pole sitter Greg O'Brien tucked up behind the Mistral pair...

3 wide into the Curva Parabolica, with O'Brien just showing the beginning of his spin....

Contact with the car in front under braking, O'Brien is out of control at high speed...

Nico Beggani the other driver involved. O'Brien in the background, heading towards the wall...

O'Brien takes a big hit, the right side of his car losing both wheels... Beggani can be seen re-entering the track as the field files past...

Race leader Sheppard heads on into Curva Grande...

Nathan McGregor soon finds trouble, running wide on entry into Lesmo 1....

He slams the wall, losing a wheel in the process. His day is over, very early on...

Sheppard leads, with Karda in the near distance...

Lap 3, and it is Ed Greenhalgh with a major dive under locked up brakes into the Rettifilio chicane...

Greenhalgh keeps the car in some form of control, with no carnage...

But brakes are still locked up on entry to the chicane....

The AMR of Elleker pulls alongside as Ed re-gains composure...

But they touch, Elleker airborne into the gravel, and the Alpha crossed up on track...

Everyone shows a bit of restraint, and all continue on....

Keranen in the Snake yields a position to Jalving upon the entry to the Parabolica....

But Keranen re-takes that position after a nice tow down the front straight, and under brakes into the Rettifilio....

The Keranen/Jalving battle has brought Ingers right into the mix....

Positions 1-8 on the end of lap 5...

Positions 9-16....

Positions 17-22....

Plenty of forward movement in the top 10 positions....

Mal Stoddart in his SCR tight up behind Karda in the Alpha, with Sheppard in the AMR also just ahead. A close battle for the lead...

Stoddart on full attack of Karda....

But they both run wide...

They touch, Karda spun around....

Stoddart continues on, whilst Karda is facing backwards on the apex of the high speed chicane - this will drop him way back in the field IF he recovers...

Joseph Gilson was able to cruise past Stoddart with that mayhem....

Karda recovers, but his day is ruined...

Cruising along in 4th in somewhat obscurity, is points leader Eric Moinet in the Mistral...

Charrel Jalving close behind Moinet...

Aiden Keranen in 6th....

Stu Ingers in 7th...

John Maverick in 8th....

Ruben Greidanus in 9th....

Michael Soutsen in 10th...

Arita Majumadar in 11th for the sole remaining TYrant...

James Peters in 12th....

Matteo Scala down in 13th in his home GP....

Chris Copeman in 14th....

Jack Elleker down in 15th after his earlier adventures...

Micheal Pedersen in 16th...

Ed Greenhalgh in 17th...

Nico Beggani in 18th....

Nata Cremasco in 19th...

Lap 9 and pit stops underway, with Jalving and Keranen emerging after their stops...

Team mates side by side on approach to the Ascari turn....

And predictibly, they run wide....

Gilson ends up facing the wrong way, right on the racing line....

The fast arriving Eric Moinet has NOWHERE to go, and slams into the stranded SCR - both with front wing damage....

Ingers overtakes Gilson and Moinet as they limp back to pitlane...

Moinet pits with his broken wing, with Gilson just ahead in pit lane....

Stoddart, after being involved so far in 2 incidents, sits over 9 seconds back from race leader Sheppard prior to pit stops....

Pit lane a hive of activity....

They make contact....

Gilson emerges from pit lane, with Majumdar at full speed closing in behind him....

Both are off track....

At the same time, Peters and Scala are side by side as they enter the chicane...

Wheels rub, sending Peters skyward....

Cars all over the place at the Retifilio chicane : Gilson facing the wrong way, Majumdar in the gravel, Scala spun around, and Peters landing back on all 4 wheels....

Stoddart inherits the lead as pit stops cycle through. Majumdar waits to the side, looking for a safe re-entry to the track....

The stranded Tyrant now dead last...

Ingers in 7th, after his pit stop. Positions 1-9 with just Stoddart, Beggani and Cremasco left to pit from the front runners....

Positions 9-16....

17th to 22nd....

4 cars, 3 wide, 1 corner. It aint gonna work!.....

And around goes Peters, with a bit of help from Pedersen it seems....

Pedersen continues, as Peters sits in the gravel....

Stoddart pits. Sheppard will be heading onto the front straight, no doubt to reclaim the lead....

With all stops now completed, Sheppard has a handy lead....

And as if by some miracle, Majumdar has finally re-joined the race, 3 laps down. Did he go to a portaloo for a quick stop??...

Stoddart in 2nd, with a 3 second gap back to the DMR of Jalving...

Copeman in 10th, with a hungry pack of cars behind him....

Soutsen in 9th, with the 3 chasing cars in the background...

Sheppard's lead over Stoddart remains controllable, but it is shrinking by the sector....

Stoddart with the pedal to the metal, clocks the fastest lap, bringing the lead down to under 6 seconds....

After a broken wing, but a fortunately timed pit stop, Moinet somehow has managed to stay in a strong 7th place....

Pedersen and Elleker side by side into Ascari, we know this won't end well for someone...

Pedersen runs wide...

The momentum carries him back on track, tagging Elleker...

The unfortunate Greenhalgh is the innocent victim, losing his front wing...

Elleker continues on, as Pedersen limps to the side of the track, minus a front left wheel....

And we cut to the front straight, where a smoking Alpha is slowing...

It's the end of the race for Karda....

With plenty of action, and just 2 laps to go, positions 1-8....

Ingers in the slipstream of Keranen as they head towards the Parabolica for the 2nd last time....

Keranen has the AMR all over the rear of him....

Ingers will get a good tow up the front straight into the chicane...

Keranen has to let the AMR slide by into 4th place....

And it is Sheppard in the Demon Racing Holden, who exits the Parabolica for the final time, with only a disaster now stopping a win for the Aussie...

Sheppard wins in Italy....

Stoddart home 2nd....

Jalving 3rd to complete the podium....

Can't believe my luck. Had the fastest car in the qualifying session and nothing to show for it in the feature race. Can only hope that qualifying and the race goes much better for Tyrant when the race drivers hit the track.

gotta love it when the only mechanical failure is by a team that didn't boost

Very very happy to have a win at Monza, for the second win of the season for me. Also great to have Charrel out on the podium with me, after a great drive to 3rd. Now find myself right in the hunt for the Test Drivers Championship with 2 rounds left....
Now for some pizza in the garage as we sit back and watch the big boys go around!

Nice that I could profit some from the mayhem in front of me, then lost a bit again in the pits and overall didn't have the pace to fight for anything, as expected with no boost. So, not a too bad session for myself. Matteo once again had issues and I fear that he will face similar issues in his home main race. But with only limited boost available, we had to make strategical decisions and hope Matteo will understand it and just give his best in the main race.

Good grief, after all that drama I managed to finish on the podium, what a turn up.

Once again a good result impeded by an external events. This goes for me as well as for Nico. Still, both cars in the points, but we were going for a double podium finishing.

Wow, that was pure mayhem :-o

used to be GPGSL's Nick Heidfeld
I think our pace might be a bit hard to catch up the front. However, we should be fine in this race and hope no one ruins our race or we don't make any silly mistake as well as me. It might be hard around here.

It would seem, judging from the testers race, that this round will be a race of attrition based on driver mistakes. Otherwise, nice to see some semblence of pace in the Snake.
Terrible race for both of us, separate incidents completely compromising what promised to be a good weeend for the team.

Kimi forever!
GPGSL Rd 12 Italian GP – Qualifying

Hello and welcome back to Monza as we get set for the start of qualifying for the race drivers. Without wasting anytime let’s head trackside as the cars can be heard starting up which means the session is about to get underway.

Weather Report

First out of the pits to get the first runs underway for Group 1 is Jalving.

He comes across the line and sets the first time of the session.

Warrington is next and slots into 2nd.

De Bruyker slots in behind his teammate.

Worseling now goes fastest.

Hometown favourite Scala manages to split the Tyrants.

His time gets beaten by Gilson.

It’s 6th currently for McClure in the Mistral.

Slowest time of the session so far for Rodriguez.

Elleker will most likely be disappointed with the time he set.

7th for Greidanus.

Soutsen is almost a full second off the fastest time.

The first runs for Group 2 is now underway as Russell is the first one out.

The Christel driver manages to go 7th fastest.

Steer now has the slowest time. It seems his impending retirement from the series may be distracting him from doing the best that he can do.

O’Neill puts in a good time to slot into 4th.

Meanwhile his teammate can only manage 13th fastest.

Hinz puts his AMR inside the top 3.

McCarthy is way off the pace in his MAC.

Silva will not be happy with that laptime.

It’s not looking good so far for MM Motorsport with both cars way down the order.

Vilela in the second Demon is unable to match his teammates pace.

Pedersen shows that the pace is still there in the MAC Racing cars.

Keranen takes 15th.

It’s Group 1 back out again for their final runs with Scala the first driver out.

Soutsen is the first driver of the group to make an improvement.

Warrington improves and moves up into the top 3.

McClure puts in a much better time than before and improves up to 4th.

De Bruyker improves, but can’t make it into the top 5.

It’s Russell out first yet again for Group 2 as they get their final runs under way.

Kederer and McCarthy both improve, but only by one position.

Steer improves though stays in the same position.

O’Neill moves up a few positions.

Mills remains outside the top 15.

It’s a last row start for Silva.

The Final Standings

Congratulations Nick Worseling and SCR, our pole sitter for Rd 12

I thought Monza was bad but at least we were unlucky there. This just sucks. The Feature race performance wasn't great, and dead last in qualifying. Talk about going out with a whimper...
