That was a lottery result right there. :-)

Fixed the R2 Test Driver standings to show the correct winner.

Looking great up there, hope the good result is on our way come qualifying :)
Awful session by me, James did great once again, without any boosts he managed a good place

Apologies for the typo on the session winner - was doing the commentary whilst fully engrossed watching a Saturday night game of football!

Considering the tricky weather, that was a decent qualifying. Now hoping for a decent race.

Kimi forever!
Back from my holidays and trying to catch up the top news.

Meanwhile, very good work Michael! You were out at the right time and made the best out of it. That raises hopes for the main qualifying as well.
I was pretty unlucky with the weather, although Eric showed what was still possible. I just couldn't get the perfect temperature in the tyres. But meh, as long as my other drivers bring in good results, I'm more than happy.

GPGSL Rd 2 Japanese GP – Qualifying

We are back at Suzuka as we get set for the race drivers qualifying to begin. We had a rain soaked free practice for the testers, and to the looks of it the rain has returned for qualifying. The question now is, how much will it affect the session? The cars can be heard starting up in the pits so let’s head trackside as we get set for the start of the session.

Weather Report

Keranen is the first man out for Group 1, and the rain has started to come down. We’ll have to wait and see just how much it’ll affect the session.

Hinz will be hoping for a much better weekend this time around, and with the new look on his AMR he might just get it.

The times start rolling in. Keranen sets the initial time.

Scala goes quicker.

Vilela is unable to beat Scala’s time.

Neither does Silva, Silvestre and Pedersen.

Russell splits the two MACs.

O’Neill slots into 6th.

Steer puts in an impressive time to take 5th.

His teammate on the other hand can only manage to take 8th.

Hinz crosses the line, and his time is good for 7th.

Reigning champion Gilson is first out for Group 2.

It doesn’t seem the rain has affected the laptimes as much as we thought. Gilson moves into 6th.

Elleker puts in a very impressive time to take provisional pole.

Worseling can’t quite match the time that his teammate set.

Van Smirren takes 7th.

Another impressive laptime is set, this time by Rodriguez.

Legge’s time is the slowest so far for Group 2.

De Bruyker goes 5th fastest.

Jalving’s time is good for 9th.

Warrington in the second Tyrant slots into 2nd.

3rd fastest time goes to McClure.

Kederer is the last driver to set his first time, and it’s good enough for 4th.

O’Neill is first out this time for Group 1.

A blistering lap from O’Neill sees him take provisional pole.

Russell improves, but now sits at the mercy of the remaining drivers.

Hinz moves back up to 4th.

That’s a good laptime from Pedersen that sees him move up to 2nd.

Steer manages to go just a bit faster.

Silvestre also improves on his previous best time.

Mills can’t match the pace of his teammate, but at least he was able to improve on his previous time.

Keranen takes the position away from Mills.

Another blistering lap is set as Silva move into provisional pole.

He doesn’t hold it for long though as Vilela goes faster.

Rd 1 winner Scala improves up into 2nd.

Gilson is first out yet again for Group 2.

This will be interesting to see.

Gilson improves up to 3rd.

Elleker improves, and it’s fast enough to put him in provisional pole.

Warrington and Rodriguez both were unaffected by being so close to each other as shown by their laptimes.

Worseling improves, but is unable to out qualify his teammate.

McClure has managed to out qualify Silva.

Jalving improves up to 3rd.

Van Smirren improves, and moves up to 12th.

Legge improves up into the top 10.

So close yet so far to pole for De Bruyker.

Kederer improves, and finds himself inside the top 5.

Here are the official times.

There we have it. The session has come to a close and we have out pole sitter. Congratulations Jack Elleker and AMR on securing pole position. For once the rain was not so bad and we were able to see a lot of improvements, but will it still be around when the race gets underway? We’ll have to wait till tomorrow to find out. We hope you enjoyed the coverage, and we’ll see everyone back here for the race.

Both cars inside the top 6. Should hopefully be a good race for both De Bruyker and Warrington so long as they stay out of trouble and have a clean race.

I'll take that. Jake did well and I think Luke was just unlucky as he had good pace in the early runs. Hopefully we can push on from here in the race and pick up some solid points.

Potential for good points from both DMR drivers. Bring em home in one piece lads....

Good lap from Tobias at the end, shame for Sean but a lot can happen in the race!

Wrong strategy it seems, waiting until the end with the 2nd timed lap was key to a good position

used to be GPGSL's Nick Heidfeld
We are going to need a good start and avoid any collisions starting from the middle of the grid.

Joseph Gilson :: Southern Cross Racing :: Race Driver
Well, both drivers had a good pace and Carlos could have taken the pole if we had timed his stint a little better. But it was once again a gamble whether the conditions improved or worsened. Overall, 3rd and 8th still offers many chances for the race, so well done boys!

Going to be tough from 20th, but if the rain sticks around then points are very possible.
Lacking pace really
