WELCOME TO SEASON 12!
With great delight, the GPGSL welcomes you all back to the beginning of another season, Season 12 for GPGSL competition.
We begin our journey for S12 in Melbourne once again, with a Feature Race for the Test Drivers. Of course, this means we need a qualifying session.

So, here it is in a super quick highlights package (no real highlights, just results! :) )

Series newcomer Luca De Los Rios in the MAC Racing entry not far off the pace, but last after the first 11 drivers.

Series veteran Maikel De Boer slowest after the first runs completed, and well off the pace - distracted with his off season birth of child perhaps?

Yep, 2nd lap around, Maikel is back on pace....
And there we have the results on the board for this qualifying session.
Southern Cross Racing's new signing Tom Dilain on pole, Tyrant team boss Greg O'Brien sharing the front row with Dilain.

And the full results for the Feature Race Qualifying session below....

Demon Racing Press Statement

Great to get the season underway in the teams home town again. A solid session to kick things off, with 10th for the team boss, and 12th for Gareth in his return to the GPGSL. A very competitive session, with so many drivers close in times.

Looking forward to the following main drivers Qualy session.....

And, i like this short coverage of Qualy! We only need the results as a guide, and maybe pics of anything epic that happens...??!!

GPGSL Team Owner Debut - Melbourne, Season 8 - present
GPGSL Test Debut - Hungary, Season 4. GPGSL Race Debut - Adelaide, Season 5.
Second on the grid for the Testers Fearure Race. That's a fantastic result for sure. Aritra has his work cut out for him starting down near the rear of the field so all we can do is hope that he can work his way up the field while having a clean race in the process.

Round 1 Qualifying, Melbourne

Welcome back to the Albert Park circuit here in Melbourne

In a BIG afternoon for the GPGSL, we are breaking with tradition, and having two qualifying sessions in the one day! With the Test Drivers having already been out on track, we now head into the Qualifying session for the main game drivers.
With a very strong line up of drivers spread across the grid, this season promises to be a great battle.

So, on with the action in this 30 minute session.
The weather in Melbourne wont be a problem today, with clear skies and sunshine.

Daly McClure sets the first time of the session...

De Bruyker next across the line...

Carlos Rodriguez, in the MTP for S12, goes fastest...

John Warrington has moved to Tyrant for S12. His first hot lap for his new team puts him in 3rd provisionally...

Joseph Gilson in his familiar SCR sits in 3rd.....

SCR team mate Nick Worseling in 5th on his first flying lap....

Jack Elleker, quick as always in the AMR posts the 4th fastest lap....

Series veteran, and returning driver Rico Van Smirren goes 3rd quickest in the Snake...

Another driver returning to active competition, Jake Legge brings up the rear so far, in the brand new/reborn Christel team

Tobias Kederer in the brilliant looking new Alpha livery, can only manage 6th fastest on his first attempt...

Charrel Jalving, in new team DMR and wearing a new helmet design, takes the 2nd fastest lap to end the first run of cars...

Luke Russell a bit off the pace in his first run, as the second group of cars take their first flying laps of Season 12....

Hinz is in the AMR again for S12, setting 9th on the charts so far....

Michael Pedersen sets a great time, going to 2nd....

Connor Steer goes 10th in the new MMM team....

Keranen had an error somewhere on his lap, clocking the slowest time so far...

S11 Test Driver champ Rodrigo Vilela grabs the provisional pole in his new ride with DMR....

Sean O'Neill will be pleased with a 5th so far....

A bad lap for the MAC of Gianluigi Silvestre....

The Ferrari engines of MMM power Dan Mills to 8th fastest

A little off the pace, Paolo Silva can only manage 14th...

Then it is Matteo Scala as the last runner to set a time, going to 3rd fastest....

Worseling slightly improves his time, but not enough to climb the order at all....

Gilson jumps a few spots higher as he improves on his 2nd flying lap....

The AMR of Jack Elleker goes to the top of the timesheets....

Legge takes .2 seconds off his previous lap....

Kederer stays in 12th for now, completing his 2nd and final lap....

Rodriguez can not improve on his earlier time in the new look MTP....

Jalving slightly improves his time, to go up to 5th....

BANG! John Warrington comes from the clouds, going nearly 0.4 seconds faster than his earlier lap to shoot to the provisional pole...

Van Smirren doesn't improve his time....

Daly McClure jumps up the order with a better 2nd lap...

Tyrant's Marcus De Bruyker cant improve on his time...

Christel VXR's rookie Luke Russell does improve, but not enough to move him up the order...

Similar story for Connor Steer, a slight improvement but not enough to move from 15th currently....

Christopher Hinz in the AMR does go faster on his 2nd flying lap, taking him up to 8th place...

Silvestre gets off the back row, setting the 16th fastest lap so far, with just a handful of drivers remaining on track...

Alpha Motorsports Sean O'Neill can't beat his earlier time...

Neither can Pedersen in the MAC Racing entry....

Silva goes to 8th on his final attempt in qualy...

Keranen goes from last, to 12th with this late effort....

Earlier provisional pole holder Vilela can't reclaim that pole... He will start the race in 3rd...

And this concludes our first qualifying sessions of the year. Congratulations to John Warrington and Tyrant Motorsports for taking the Pole Position. We look forward to your company for the races coming at you live on GPGTV in the coming days....

Good turnaround, nearly 6 tenths faster on the second lap. Important to be up there to have a chance in the race.
Pole and 14th for the grid. Pretty happy to see that.

A good start to the season starting middle of the field. Any problems at the start of the race with lead traffic could see me move up the field.
Hope to start S12 with getting some good points for the team.

9th is an okish start to the season, not too bad.

used to be GPGSL's Nick Heidfeld
Well, that was unexpected! Great start to the season, hopefully follow it up in the race

8th and 11th looks promising for the race...

-----------------------------------------------------

Both runs could have stopped after the first stints, and I would have been extremely happy. This way the main driver qualifying is still promising, very good job, boys. And only split by a thousand of a second. In the tester qualifying, it was a pity that we couldn't improve in the second run, like most others did.

GPGSL : Team Owner of 'Maverick Track Performance' (MTP)
Starting right in the middle of the pack so some overtaking will be needed if we are to get a good result. Not expecting a fourth Melbourne win though.

Joseph Gilson :: Southern Cross Racing :: Race Driver
The boys will have some work starting at the back, but nothing we weren't expecting, they have the experience and skills to make a good race

And great start for James, hope he can keep the pace for the race

Good effort, not even 3 tenths off the pace, a shame the field is so packed together that it only gives us midfield for now. Still a huge chance for our first points of the season!

If you are racing, keep on racing and get some points!
