Windows 10 compatibility

Hi to everyone, I'm the newest noob here. I have been searching past posts to answer my question, but it has been a bit challenging. So my question is, can you direct me to a thread(s) on how to get GP4 to run on Win 10. At this point it won't even start. I have loaded the program as well as 9.6v, gpx patch 4.44. When I try to start it says I have to load DirectX 8.1 first. That was tried, seemed to load, but no change. Then I loaded DirectX from Microsoft, and it did no good either. So that is about where I'm at. Looking forward to getting up and running as I haven't played GP4 since it's original release. Thanks for any help....

Try setting the run in compatibility mode for gp4.exe. Use an earlier OS mode, could be XP or similar. Set gpx to debug mode so it will output a crash log on a forced exit.
EDIT: XP SP2 or SP3. gpx, test the cpu settings, try 0 first.

It looks to be working now. I haven't gotten my wheel and pedal yet, so I haven't had any game play, but it looks promising so far. At this point the graphics on the cars are all white. How do I change up the livery on the cars? Thanks again for the help.

There's info in the FAQ on white cars.

just bought new PC (win 10 pro, AMD Ryzen 5 1600, GTX1060 6GB, 16GB Ram) and i got some issue with old GP4 (1.02, GPX Patch 4.44) installed obviously outside Program Files.
First windows required a CD/DVD drive (got an external, or i'll install later Alchool or Deamon Tools with a digital one), then every time i time to load the game, system crash (the win 10 blue screen of text) and reboot itself. Other old games runs fine just with Win 7 compatibility and admin rights. Infortunately, searching on FAQ thread and around GGPG old thread i haven't found anything that could work so far now.

Could be Ryzen multicore issue (anyone with a ryzen can conferm or not?) or else that i can't know cause there's no GPX Patch log to attach?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: solved like above. The Win XP SP3/2 compatibility on both exes (GP4,GPx Patch) made the game run fine.

My workthread with all RELEASED and WIP stuff

I run GP4 in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update: GpxPatch 4.44 and GP4 encrypted exe, when I start the game got this "Insert CD"
(I have the encrypted no-CD exe in game, if put in the CD nothing happens), same problems in GP3.
Maybe it has something to do with user right in Win 10 ?? Tried compatibility mod on both exes without any success.
Both games run under Win XP.
Any suggestions ? Thanks in advance.

This is exactly the same problem I'm having. Did you end up finding out how to fix it?
