i like the snake tyres design, and i see no problem with it at all.
i mean, looking from "roleplay" point of view - snake motorsports created various types of chassis everyone's using since eternity, so it should be no problem for such kind of giant monopolist manufacturer to develop their own engine and tyres

---thinking out loud---

it might be a different story if tyres played a bigger role (rather than decorative), like making any difference on team/drivers perfomance. me and my brother were running our own private fictional series since 2001, where every team had budgets to choose from the different drivers, tyres, engines, chissis, fuel, brakes, electronics etc etc and each option played a role on calculating the perfomance file. so every team had to choose either to sign 2 good (yet expensive) drivers, but have less money to spend on decent engines, tyres and everything else, or you could save money with signing a cheap driver for a 2nd seat maybe, to have some extra cash to make a better car for the main driver, and so on. the sponsors also played an impact, it was an optional thing tho. the bigger sponsors pack your team had - the more money you gained from winning the race/scoring the points. singning a sponsor also costed some money, so it was a risky thing, because if you wasted the money to sign a sponsor instead of signing a better engine for example, you risked to remain out of the points with a slower car, but if you was lucky to get some points with the largely sponsored car, your team earned some extra cash, which you could spend to sign a better engine for the next season, or for the next race even. there were also transportation expenses, so it was sometimes a trouble for the poorer teams to make their voyage to the american or asian/australian events. it was a huge fun, each season some teams were running out of money because of bad strategy, and some others remained flourishing and competative through all the 11 seasons we played (and btw michael soutsen is the name of one of the drivers from that series too, that's where from it originates:-)). i think you could implement something like this for s12 maybe, to make a bigger impact on team ownership, and to make the team rotation even smoother with some of them naturally running out of money because of the constant lack of pace through the consecutive seasons (speaking of snake motorports by the way...) ;)

It's Sean O'Neill and Alpha Motorsports

What happened to the flags, the look rather bad?

I seem to remember Greg mentioned something about Joshua no longer being around?

O'Neill spelling corrected, and Alpha Motorsports returned as team name....

I thought the same with the flags! Not sure if they have somehow been corrupted, in the transition between spreadsheets - they look perfect in the main reference spreadsheet, but crap on the results sheets?? Will work on this over the weekend....

Quite strange, since the flags on the results etc. sheets are just screenshots of the ones on the reference sheet :/

Hmmm, very odd - opened up the backup copy, and the flags appear fine in the results table - will be reverting to that copy me thinks.....

Version of Excel are you using @shep34? Think it does that with the flags when using a version older than 2013 (have same problem with the tables in Nations Cup. Have to delete the flag and copy/paste from the flags tab to make it look cleaner)

As for Joshua, I've decided to give him till the end of Rd 1 before I make the decision to replace him. After all, until the season is officially underway and a deadline set for the first activity check, the participants don't really have to be active while it's in the off-season/pre-season (and I think this applies to everyone else who hasn't made any posts since the end of Season 10).

i agree with that K.I.S.S concept, but right now reading that big wall of text about the current perfs generation on the first page is like reading the egyptian hieroglyphs for me ;)

speaking of that, i might be the only one, who don't really like the idea of perfomance "equalization"? it seems to me that for the newcomers the testing duties is the thing that should make a greater impact on gaining the performance points, so they should spend at least a half of a season (or full season even) on friday tests instead of rushing for a race seat and be somehow competative from the start just because of forced equalization...

2007 might give issues with the standings, as far as I can remember it only supported 3 rules for conditional formatting. I created the sheets with 2010, with which they still worked perfectly fine yesterday.

It's because of the dynamics of GP4. A few seasons ago we had the situation that the older the driver (aka the longer he/she participated in the series), the better the position because of their high performance, they only increased their performance gaps to test drivers instead of them catching up over time, since there was no boundary. Compare it to a real driver. At some stage, they have earned enough experience that they won't make big performance gaps any longer. From then on it's just fine tuning. And since we never got to implement a rule that a driver only has the peak for a couple of seasons before they grow too old, we went with 'levelling' the starter perfs. It's no 'equalization' anyway, because the best driver still has 45 points more than a newcomer. Before, some people complained that always the same driver/team combinations were winning. Now some other people complain that newcomers have a chance to win. How you do it, you do it wrong. But this is the situation that we'll stick to for now, because it gives every driver a realistic chance while still lightly favouring (and honoring the effort of) long time drivers.

I think we all should do like Maikel does with his Snake Motorsport Team, maybe for next season... just a thought ;-)

that's fine, i don't have too much experience with running pure AI races, because in our series we were driving all the 22 cars one by one via hot-seat option with my brother, and it was a completely different experience. GP4 AI car tends to run fast even after switching hot seat if you ran fast enough with that particular car, and vise versa - if you were slow/made mistakes, the AI driver will drive relatively slower as well untill his next hot-seat segment. so we used to have a much wider difference in values in the perf file to make its impact more visible.

but what about 500 range value, which is the same for every driver? with the current 45 points between the best and the lowest driver performance values, as you mentioned, isn't it make the results almost absolutely random? maybe i don't properly understand how the range value works with the AI races... anyone could explain? and what about making a range value boosts as well, or something like that, to make a make a bigger impact for drivers to affect their performances even further ;)

and did you swap your helmet from black to green one for the coming season? i really like it, though i think Tobi might have said that gillette logos should be colored (or at least outlined) with black ;-)

Actually, I have a question: How do you make the excel results spreadsheets (with the flags and the like)

Now I'm getting curious on how it's done!

There is a factor of randomness in it and that is by purpose. However, we said there is going to be a boost system change for this season and it's likely that this will incorporate said value, too. But we neither want the strongest drivers always on top of the field nor a boost leading to a certain podium finish.

The version I sent in to Stu is a black one. For the render I caught the wrong file and rendered it in blue/green and haven't had the time, yet, to make new renders.

Will new teams all receive the same Team Boost BHP level for the season, or still receive different amounts based on which team is nominally 9th 10th and 11th for example.
