I don't really get Assetto Corsa...can you race an F1 season for example or are you limited by the content available?

You are limited by the content of the mod... But you can install the tracks you want, to make a whole season, like on GP4.

But are all the cars available for example in each season? I'm looking at options because I'm not sure what the likelihood of 2017 cars becoming available for gp4 is?

It could just be a PC upgrade for codemasters

If performance in mods is true to life
If all teams can feature or there is a limit to a certain number of cars?

Yes is from Assetto Corsa.

Yes, Haas is gp4 and tyres new wider versions There are plans for cars, but the progress can take time but hopefully one day there is full grid.

That's great news Vesuvius, that cars are being planned. Is that by RSCT group? I appreciate these masterpieces take time, I'm just trying to determine if I need to look at other avenues for 2017 grid or not.

I really want to find out more about Asertto Corsa, from my questions above
