'Visor' object of some helmets has tint.

Hi all,
So, I've poked around at this a bit and can't for the life of me think of a solution.

Full Size

This is MDBSnake's Arai GP5-RC shape, Winglet version (transparent and non-transparent visor).
As you can see, the helmet 'Visor' object, in both pictures, has an orange tint to it.
It also happens with this helmet here, in a separate mod.

The only thing those helmets have in common is that they belong to a driver filling the second vanilla Arrows slot.
This issue doesn't affect the driver in the first Arrows slot.

Two questions:
1) Is this because Bernoldi's 2001 visor is orange, and Verstappen's was black?
2) Can I do something about this?

Cheers,
Doug.

I hate to do it, but obligatory 'week old' bump.

1.) yes, it´s excatly because Bernoldi had orange tinted visor. Also Minardi drivers had tinted visors with original game files.

2.) try this (don´t know if it helps) :

Open your f1graphics.cfg file

Scroll down to the line that reads
1 ; Enable user-defined gamma ramp v2

try to change it so that it reads

0 ; Enable user-defined gamma ramp v2

That one is already set to '0' unfortunately.
There is a line just below that section though:
131 ; Enable cockpit gamma 0 off,1 player for all, 2 player for player only, 3 driver specific. Bit 7 (only when visor on) v2

I've never understood how to interpret lines like that, but I'll change that one to '0' and see what happens.

EDIT: Nope, that didn't work either.

first of all i've had a look here and the there isn't a Bernoldi helmet with a red tinted visor, wether for 2001 nor for the season 2002 and i wonder why you simply don't change the helmet textures, because that's the wrong helmet texture for the shape. And maybe the changings won't effect the helmet in the cars wad, because the textures are in the main folder GP4\cars.

original gp4, had orange tinted visor for Bernoldi (he used one for 2001,2002 seasons) and green tinted for minardi drivers. However you are right about, that both arrows and minardi driver helmets are not originally stored in cars.wad but in main GP4/cars folder, but this can also be changed with Hex editor, I have patched gp4.exe so that helmets are now read from cars.wad.

It isn't the helmet texture that's the issue here.
(And this is the right texture for the shape; I hadn't placed a face yet, if that was what you were wondering about?)

The 'Visor' object of the helmet shape - that is, the Object called 'Visor' in the .gp4 file - is having an orange in game for the driver taking the second Arrows slot.
As Vesuvius mentioned, this also affects the Minardi slots, though the colour is different.

Here are some screenshots of the unmodified game, hopefully this will show the problem better.
* Verstappen - No orange tint. (1st Arrows driver)
* Bernoldi - Orange tint. (2nd Arrows driver)
* Minardi, green tint - both drivers.

The common link that all the orange tinted Visors share is that they belong to the driver in the second Arrows slot.
There is no orange tint on any of the textures, and there is no green tint in the textures for the Minardi drivers.

Here is a Paste of my F1Graphics.cfg in case that holds any clues.
My current plan is to just start changing things and see what happens.

I guess it's like this:

values can be 0 to 3, and Bit 7 means add 128 (2 to the power of 7).
so 131 = 3 + 128 = driver specific and only when visor on v2

I think that the way to get rid of the tint is so that arrows, minardi and bar helmets are read from cars.wad instead of that main gp4/cars folder. So you can download my modified gp4.exe and try if it´s changes things...but remember to put those helmet.tes files now on cars.wad.

i wasn't wondering about the driver face, but about the helmet top. It looks a little bit strange on both pics, that's why i've thought you've used the wrong shape :). I've extracted the original cars wad and converted Bernoldis helmet textures from tex to tga and what i've noticed is, that the original helmet shape used a visorspecmap for the visor. Then i changed the driver15_1 and 15_2 original textures with musumecis Bernoldi helmet textures for the original helmet shape, but the visor stays orange tinted. Again i changed the complete helmet shape and helmet textures with hi res ones for 2001 and now Bernoldis visor is black. like on the tex file. So i think the orange tint is related to the original helmet shape

oh and please could you upload the arai gp5-rc shape?

@SDI: Ah, that makes sense, thanks.
@Vesuvius: Yep, I'll give it a shot.
@Quickslick: You can download it from GP4 Central.

Sorry to bump this old topic, but I guess there's no solution to this?
