Why not try the patched version from GP4 Central?

I tried that already. But something is terribly wrong there. This Version is strangely really slow on my PC. FPS maybe 20, CPU always over 120% and as far as I remember
this Version crashed also.

Unfortunately then I think the problem is your particular setup then. 13000+ downloads without any complaints for that version.

I will try it again today.
Try to run Ccleaner after uninstalling the game. It can help and get rid of broken links which can interfere with the game.

##Configuring GP4 to run on Windows 7 SP1 64bit successfully.##

My Machine Specs:-

Custom build
OS Windows 7 SP1 64bit
CPU AMD Fx 8350 8 core
Motherboard Asus
Memory 16 Gig
Graphics Card Ati radeon 7850

First download grand prix 4 patch and install it, you can get it from here:-
[www.grandprixgames.org]

Then download gpxpatch, (not to be confused on the patch above (note gpxpatch enhances the game and can be downloaded
here:- SDI Game Utilities: GPxPatch) and install it:- [rsdi.home.xs4all.nl]

Once installed make gpxpatch.exe and gp4.exe compatibility mode windows xp sp2, i.e:-

right click on the .exe files, then properties and make both files compatibility level:- windows xp sp2 and tick the
following checkboxes:-

disable visual themes
disable desktop composition
disable display scaling on high DPI settings
run this program as an administrator

Next set the game resolution to 1680 x 1050, open this file with notepad:-
f1graphics.cfg

And configure the following:-

1 ; f1graphics.cfg controls all settings (default 0)
1680 ; [RELEASE] Game 3D Horizontal Resolution
1050 ; [RELEASE] Game 3D Vertical Resolution

1680 ; [DEBUG] Game 3D Vertical Resolution
1050 ; [DEBUG] Game 3D Vertical Resolution

Save the file and close it.

Run gpxpatch.exe, click on Start GPx button
-In games menu, click on Options and then Graphics, (do not touch the screen resolution of 640 x 480)
Just click on the Advanced option and select manual, set all to the highest level
click on test, (on fast PC you should get close to 60fps, click on test 2 to 3 times to get better result if you can
with the fps) Then on Frame rate slider, set it to 30fps from 60fps or half of what the maximum is. (this will make
the processor work less and the game will still run super fast) exit the game and save it on the way out.

-Disable Antivirus and firewall (for lan play)
-And all other programs that might popup during game play, example like video card updates, java updates, windows
updates, typically this is at the bottom right in taskbar.

Run gpxpatch.exe, a gui will popup with tabs:- GPxPatch, GPxSet, GPxTrack, GPxLap, GPxSAT, GPxCInfo and GPxSound.
Under the GPxPatch tab you can tick all those other tabs mentioned , which will enable them into the game.
what I found is that if I uncheck all the tabs, except GPxTrack especially for lan (multiplayer) the performance
is increased substantially, I suspect enabling all of the other things puts a burden on the games performance.

### This bit you will have to do everytime you run the game:-

-Run gpxpatch.exe, as mentioned above tick GPxTrack, uncheck all the rest under GPxPatch tab. (you can experiment
here of course, by enabling more features)
-Then click on:- Start GPx button
-Once in the games menu, do an alt tab (this will pop you back to windows)
-Right click on the task bar, and select :- Start Task Manager
-Goto the Processes tab and look for gp4.exe
-right click on the gp4.exe and select:-

-Set priority to normal (which is default), click ok, then right click again
-and choose Set Affinity and select CPU 0 and 1, deselect all the rest

note if it says access denied, when you try to change Priority and Affinity
at the bottom click on:- Show processes from all users
and try again, If you still get access denied you need to have Administrator rights.

Click on the game icon in the task bar that is still in running state and you will be back into the game menu

Play the game.

##Additional Info:-

Get this if you want realistic clouds, etc 2001 Trackpack:-

And this for 2004 season cars, from this site:- [valdibarros.blogspot.com.au]
called GP-4 - Car.wad 2004

Here are some screenshots from multiplayer game, :-

In multiplayer you can let the AI take control of your car by hitting space bar or P key depending if your using a
steering wheel or not. For multiplayer using TCP/IP check this article on increasing network performance in windows 7:-

@gp4wonder

Do you run GP4 with GPX or without?
I would say with, considering gpx is a must have. Send a pm, more chance of your message being seen.

I think the 'test graphics' button will crash with GPxPatch running?

René Smit, Independent Software Developer.
Download my GPx tools here.
@gp4wonder

Unfortunately this didn't fix the Problem. The Game crashed again. It was worth a try.

So "I/we" "am/are" again at the Beginning.
Hi Guys,

I run it with gpxpatch yes.

I'm not giving up on this by a long shot.

but the latest test only change I made I have set the resolution to 1680 x 1050, and it hasn't crashed but i wont speak to soon
if you guys can test this for me at this resolution.

I can repro the crash by hitting the right arrow and down arrows in quick succsession, over and over at 1920 x 1080 it would crash
affinity set to 2 cpus. note hitting the arrow keys changes views of the cars

set it to 1680 x 1050 and cant get it to crash more testing at this res to come

I also did the following ran the game at 1680 x 1050 res , stopped the game by going back into menu hit esc
and then alt tab saw the memory consumption for gp4.exe at around 130k in taskmanager

im sure that for 1920 x 1080 it was around the 340k mark

so my guess is the less memory we utilize in taskmanager the stable the game becomes but my opinion of course,
see what you guys can get from the above results

read my post again above on the changes made.
