Hello forum, after I have found nowhere a GP4 version from the historical race track of Reims-Gueux, I decided yesterday to build the track myself. :-) The track is 8.302 kilometers long and has 1702 track sectors. A complete race will last for 50 laps. Unfortunately I'm a totally track building rookie and still wondering why I started to build a track. ;) I should have finished the dat after working three quarters of a day on it, but unfortunately I have to tell you that something went wrong a little bit. :( hot Look at that:

I think I need some help. Does anyone has a step-by-step-tutorial for GP4 Builder? I know that there was one some weeks ago but I can't find it anymore. By the way what's the matter of the black line around the track in GP4 Builder? Is that a limit that should not be exceeded?

yep it is ;-)

When you build more than one sector with the multiple sector tool you can see a red preview of the path the sectors will go...if you change the angle the preview changes to..with it you can build the track easier :)

For what I can see your returning straight line is too long (obvious) and you need to change the angle of your last turn (presumedly) to make both lines join.
Also, you need to have the whole track inside the GPxWorld or whatever is its name (the large square around the track). For that you have to move the coordinates of your first sector to make the track move.

Don't know much more as I don't build track for GP4.
But it's a nice start. Keep going.

@EricMoinet: I know that the returning straight is much too long, but I have to build 1702 sectors, so some other track sectors are a bit too short. ;) Thanks for the link, I will go on. :-)

Sorry for the odd question, but I don't get why you need/want 1702 sectors.

If it's related to the lenght of the track (ie: 1702x16feets=8.302 km) that would mean that your map isn't at the correct scale, so you would have to resize it fist at the correct scale regarding GP4Builder point of view and then reshape you're dat to fit with the map.

The circuit is a little bit to big for the black lines in GP4 Builder, they are surrounding only 2x2 kilometres. But what did you just say? I can resize the size? Tell me how to do this, I have no idea.

Not exactly what I was saying. :)

But first, you NEED to have the track inside of the black lines square. That's one of the limitations of GPx Series and you can't bypass it.
If you go outside of the square, you will find yourself struggling in some kind of weird Nowhere Land on track and probably will never come back to real life. Hence why I said you have to move your track's First Sector coordinates to put the whole track inside the square land.

But maybe because the track is too long, regarding GPx track length limits, you can't have the whole track inside the square, thus you need to reduce its length a while.

But that's still not what I was referring to. :)

What I was saying is that the map you're using to build the track is not at the good scale (you're using a picture, isn't it ?), too small IMO for the actual track length as first and last sectors can't match together. So you have to make it bigger to have it at the correct scale length of the track inside GP4Builder.

I surely have the right scale! And in fact the track is too long to get it completely into the black square even though I moved the first sector. But that's not such bad because I have looked at the dat-file from Hockenheim 1968 today, there are two parts of the track outside the black square as well. And I don't want to reduce the track length. Never ever. I want to build a track with a 12 km long straight someday, that have to work too! ;) I really don't want to start again now, I hope I can finish the dat-file today or tomorrow. :-)

Unfortunately it is not possible to make a cc-line outside the black square. hot GP4 Builder 1.0.6.1 is simply to small for the great circuit of Reims-Gueux. :-( If nobody can give me a better version of GP4 Builder soon, I have to drop the project.
That's a nice layout mate. Keep in mind that GP4Builder is not related to the issue you have : this is a GPx limits as I've said before.
Maybe you should try to rotate your track a bit so it can have more driving parts into the square land.
And have a look on how cc-line was made for Hockenheim 1968. Not sure but there must be a way to edit cc-line outside of GP4Builder.

It would be nice to have a driveable Reims-Gueux for GP4 :)

As far as I remember the cc-line of the Ancient-Hockenheim track was completely inside the black square. And I rotated the circuit as far as I could, but it is simply impossible to bring it completely into the black square! :-( So now, please tell me how I can delete sectors and insert new sectors between to other sectors somewhere on the track, because I'm not able to do that! Whenever I insert a new sector between two other sectors, the length of the new sector and the last old sector are reduced to a half. When I create a new sector again at the same place I see only a half and two quarters of a sector but not two new sectors! I'm planning to reduce the track length a little bit (you know why) and to repair the last corner (it is not completely right I think) but I need to know how to insert and delete sectors at an united track! hot
Sorry, I can't help you on that request as I don't use GP4Builder. Hope someone else will do it.

I think someone should bring out a new version of GP4 Builder soon, because I want to build Spa-Franchorchamps 1970 as well. But with that bloody black square... I don't want to talk about that again. (N)

the track is too big I think, it should reduce.
I personally never do circuit exceeding the length of spa Francorchamps. In addition, it must absolutely return to the black square.
And I thought I could build a track with a 12 km long straight! :( That's the end of my dreams! :( Or I'll make a new version of GP4 Builder, but I have no idea how to do that. Everything I would have to do myself. This way I can't work, I'm sorry. (N) We have 2014 now and it is still not possible to make a 8.3 km long track for GP4. I can't believe that. hot

Tracks can be up to 20km but they need to stay within the bounds of the black sqaure.

Happy to see other GP4 fans use GP4Builder and tries to make track or other. (Y)

I found my DAT file I started using the coordinates track for GP3 done by Dieter C. SEROWY.
I finished it quickly for it to work.
I don't know if the lenght is right, there are plenty bumps, the pitlane made by me is bad, Etc. .... it's just a test.
