GP4 will not start

Hi forum!

It's been a LONG time since I last played GP4. Now I'm excited about doing that but I cannot get it to start (first a blank screen and then back to OS with a error message window) so I thought I'd ask around here first.

I have a the following specification;
Motherboard: Gigabyte P35-DS3P
Processor: INTEL Core2 Duo E6850 @ 3GHz
Memory: 2GB
Video card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275
Operating system: Windows XP SP2

For everything else this system works well and it doesn't fail when I stress-test it with 3D benchmarkers for example.

Anyone has any suggestions or is there a guide of some sort for these kind of problems?

Have you installed anything else than GP4 (CSM, GPxPatch)? Have you installed it from CD or another source? And what does the error message say? Especially that would be EXTREMELY helpful to know!

First I just tried a straight installation but now I've also tried starting with GPxPatch (like I've always have in the past). Tried tweaking different settings in GPxPatch to no avail. When I enable debug mode in GPxPatch I get the following output if that sheds any light on this;

Carlos - sorry I do not speak spanish I'm afraid. But if you try describing (in short terms) maybe I'll get it?

OK, For a lot of time I had the same problem, it is a compatibility problem between your pc, windows xp sp2 and gp4. The only effective way to solve the problem is to change the windows xp for windows 7.
I change the windows and the problem is completely solved.

This statement is incorrect. Why would you remove XP and then have to run in XP compatibility mode? GP4 prefers XP as an operating environment.
If there is a sound problem, evident in the log, then run dxdiag and check that there are no sound issues with dx. If necessary, look at updating the sound drivers. You could use Windows Update to check if any updates are required.
Try starting GP4 (with gpx) setting cpu to 1 or 0. Also test running in admin mode.
Before you attempt to mod GP4 a clean install should be working perfectly, so look at getting that to run before doing anything else.

Haven't had time to work on this for some time.

I've run dxdiag without any problems. I've updated the sound drivers dated 2013-03-29 now - doesn't help. Tested the CPU settings in GPxPatch, difference but still doesn't start. Without an error log it is hard to say what the problem could be, install gpx_patch and post an error log into a new topic with error log in the subject line.

Try creating an new partition, install XP and use a boot manager. Install GP4 on the XP partition and test. GP4 should run on a clean install on XP.

GP4 has to run on a clean install before adding the official patch and the no-cd (both files on this site).
