With the amount of debate going on right now, and at least 5 drivers potentially in the frame, I felt this topic deserved its own thread.

So, who do we think it might be? Let's discuss...

Raikkonen and Grosjean would be my guess.

Petrov and Grosjean.

Why? Petrov brings money. Grosjean is contracted to them and won GP2.

Straightforward, I guess.

They need (IMO) an experienced driver and a young talent. So my choice is Barrichello and Grosjean. Why?

Barrichello: Is way more comitted to his team than Raikkonen. I reckon that if the '12 Lotus is a good car, he can still do the job. Remember 2009, he was almost out, like now, and returned to win two fantastic races, and could've won his home race for the first time.

Grosjean: Is, was and will be a Renault driver. He has always been talented, but unlike 2009, he is much more prepared now. This is the time for him to race a full season.

Why not Raikkonen, Petrov, Senna? Raikkonen doesn't seem keen on returning, he seems to want to race anywhere, not necessarily F1. Petrov is simply a jerk. Just take a look at how many races he spent behind Heidfeld in the standings while he was not racing. And Senna is talented, but irregular. He is in the Q3, then goes out and crash, then he barely makes it to the Q2, then he does an outstanding race, and so on.

I would choose Glock and Grosjean/Senna.

I believe Glock has out clauses in his contract that would allow him to leave if he received such an offer.

It's arguably an unfair, irrational and desperate decision, but man I am excited to see how he will go!

So the top 9 cars in 2012 will have 6 world champions, and 2 others who have won 18 Grand Prix between them!

Not really a fan of this guy but will be really interested to see how quickly his ability allows him to re-climatise to F1 compared to Michael Shumacher.

Wait until we get Kimi and Vitaly's vodka parties! ;)

If those two team up, it will probably be the most laconic driver line-up of all time.

Fantastic to see Kimi back!:) hopefully Lotus Renault will make a good car for next year...pirellis should suit well for Kimi as he is known to be gentle to his tyres like Button.

nice to see kimi is back with Renault(Lotus) or other way lol.

hope they will built a good car so he can show what hes got and we all know he has it.

also hope he gets grosjean as teammate wich would really strong team in my view.

anyway cant wait to see him getting in that car and fly around the tracks of the world again.

Anyone thinks that if kubica gets back mid season him and kimi could be the strongest driver combo in f1?

I'm just glad somebody finally got him to sign something after such a long and annoying rumour mill. Welcome back Kimi!!

McLaren also has Lewis and Jenson...

Glad that Kimi came back, if Lotus make a decent car next year he could bring more than one surprise

good point frantic, but i argue that the german combo is nr 1 because webber, massa are really middle class drivers (from what they showed this season). Lewis was a bit better than those two but in thisseason particulary he was nothing special.nearly 60 points behind button. If he ups his game. Then macca will be just as good i'd say as merc., maybe even better

Definitely going to be interesting with the new reg's next year. much more of an even keel for those teams with experience. Do you guys see the grid as being even closer amongst those with the expertise?
Also which engine builder do you see as being more dominant?
Finally, do you think that the balance will swing more to individual driver ability more so, than engine/ car-design dependency?
