Onboard video of the stage from the car which started behind Kubica. The accident appears at 3:20. You can see several armco barriers throughout the stage which have exposed ends.

Thanks Dave.

Can someone translate what was said as they drove past and pulled over?

Pilot: "Got hurt?"

C: "He got hurt, he got hurt"

P: swears when turn off the machine

C: "Ok ok ok, stop there stop there"

P: "Oh God.. I knew he would crash there"

From the YouTube comments. May not be true.

Ah, totally forgot that you'd pointed that out. I guess that would lodge it firmly in the 'spin' category.

Well it was obviously a huge shock to find out about Kubica's injuries. Hopefully he can make a good recovery and at least have a good quality of life. Selfishly, I hope that he gets back to F1 soon, but there are other things to look after first. In the past he may have got away with having a weakened hand, but coincidentally, the hands are now so important with all the new buttons. Even so, motorsport found a way to keep Zanardi racing, so I'm sure that where there's a will, there's a way.

It probably is too early for Renault to decide who to replace him with. If it's only for four of five races, Senna could probably do the job, but if it is for the season, I think it's worth bringing in Heidfeld or even buying Hulkenberg's contract. It would be a bit embarrassing for them bringing someone in after hiring so many test/reserve driving, and I don't know if Bahar and co. are likely to swallow their pride that easily.

As for the Virgin, I don't mind it, but nothing too special. They seem to have removed the Yorkshire rose imagery, which further removes the Manor heritage. It's got the 2009 Renault problem of the paint running out on the nose. The shape looks quite basic as well.

The Virgin is actually prettier than I thought it would be. Just looks like a more refined version of last year's car, which I would expect is a result of feeding last year's data into their computer...

This seems to be an extension of BAR's 1999 'couldn't pull the zip tight enough' problem ;)

Pity they've removed the Rose, but then, 'officially' (sadly, from some points of view) it's no longer a Yorkshire team, racing under a Russian licence this year. Marussia are touting it as the first Russian F1 team...well, there was Midland F1 if I remember correctly? Certainly hope the team performs better/owners stay longer than Midland, but we'll see.

I am a bit shocked by the Virgin car, other teams have changed theirs a lot and well they seems not to have.

Will wait and see how it goes on the track but I do not think they will be much better than last year :(

you grow a pair you jerk, new news is still coming out, now it turns out he was in the car for 90mins, and the doctors have said he was in CRITICAL condition, and now might has problems with his lungs, so shut your disrespectful crap trap. even if its not life-threatening, the hand operation might be career ending, racing is his life. you obviously dont have a pair to begin with to post such rubbish.

Good news is he has come out of coma and is feeling pain, better then not feeling anything.

Disrespectful? It's not like people are standing outside the operating theatre shouting "oh awesome, maybe Heidfeld will get the drive!". Seriously, what nonsense.

Still it is not our job to decide who's gonna be the replacement. And still there is doubt if Kubica will ever race again. Be sure, I am not a Kubica fan at all, but I am saying this as a human. This is no offense, think about that.

added to that, he had internal bleeding and lost lots of blood, doctors had to attend to that before making the choice of amputating the hand or not. gav, you wouldnt have had the choice, they would have cut off your arm and your pair if you have any, but kubica being a high profile person got a good doctor flown in to do the micro surgery to reattach the hand, this involved reattaching blood vessels, then setting the bones in place, then connecting the muscle tissues etc, his hand was crushed and may never use it again. is now out of coma but cant communicate yet and has problem with his lungs associated with the internal bleeding. he is not out of the woods yet.

I think you need to look at the situation objectively. Yes it is bad news about Kubica, but why exactly is it direspectful to discuss driver replacements? Yes its not our decision but 100% of what we discuss on the F1 forum is out of our control, yet its a talking point. Thats the whole point of the forum! if you seriously think this accident should stop us all discussing the future, then im afraid you need to take a step back and look at the whole picture, of the whole world. countless people die everyday. Should the world stop ticking because of that?

Just looked at the Virgin, looks good. Its logical that its development from their '10 car. It looks far more refined. I suspect last year was all about validation processes and finding what can work and what wont in terms of relating CFD processes to what happens on track. Perhaps more than anything experience is what will get you the right CFD and track results. Last years car was not slow. It was often as fast if not quicker than the Lotus yet lacked reliability. They should follow Lotus up the order, question is will they be quicker or not? But yeah looks like a clever approach from the team. Nothing too drastic. I hope it brings results.

You think everyone will move up the order or seems to have a quick car. You do know that's not physically possible, right? ;)

Here DaveEllis you big old tool:
Renault spokesman just said this.

“It’s far too early to be thinking about that at this stage,” the spokesperson continued. “Bahrain is five weeks away, so there is plenty of time for the team to make a decision and it would be indecent of us to make that decision, with Robert being the primary concern at this moment.”

He is in intensive care. so go make love to gav with your vagina and leave your disrespectful words at home and away from here.
