The 2011 Formula One Season

Surely Branson has to think about his brand. If he pumped a bit more money in, they could develop their own gearbox inhouse. But now Marussia are involved, would this involve an increased efficiency in the technical side?

or at least in engine tuning...

talking ´bout Virgin. Here in Argentina Esteban Guerrieri concluded successfully negotiations with the government to get the money to get into a Virgin next year. He talks regularly with John Booth and the expectatives to have after 19 years an Argentinian driver in F1 (at least here) are high. Has this been reflected in other countries or there are talking only about D´Ambrosio and one or two names more for that seat?

I think it's quite unfair to rate drivers without F1 racing experience prior to this season in the lower cars. We knew Yamamoto sucked, but Senna/Chandok/di Grassi are true rookies and their cars were dire. Glock was in a slow but reasonably reliable Jordan and lucked into those points - I still remember being surprised he didn't crash! - and won in GP2, and seems consistent. I read from a couple of places and even from Lucas himself that the team usually went with the setup he found for the car, for Glock's car as well. They need better chances to prove themselves as they had some reasonable success in lower Formulas, despite Senna's unlucky retirements in GP2 and Chandok's unimpressive results in there but consistent driving and finishing in the HRT.
Trulli and Kovalainen are both confirmed at Lotus as well as Maldonado at Williams

Maybe Maldonado will be a pleasant surprise in F1, like Kobayashi, but based on how he performed against Hulkenberg in GP2 in 2009, it doesn't bode too well for Williams.

Xtrac's line on the gearboxes was that they weren't packaged in the car properly (I spoke to them recently when applying for jobs...)

Hopefully it will be fixed for next year. It's hard to believe the entire blame can be placed on xtrac.

Good luck with jobs!

Toro Rosso STR6 to be released on 1st February.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Also who thinks that instead of green, Pirelli should use yellow stripes on the soft tyres (as it's one of Pirelli's logo colours and is easier to see)?

Wasn't the green stripe a gimmick, or did they actually stop using white stripes? Either way, I agree with you :)

I agree, too, but the green stripe is for show the ecological compromise Formula 1 has (something that I think is hypocritical considering todays cars burn aprox. 70 litres of fuel in 100 laps)

I think its more to do with the FIA's 'Make Cars Green' campaign rather than a specific F1 initiative.
