Well as a Damon Hill fan, 1996 I suppose would have to have been my favourite. It hardly was the most exciting season I know, although Damon, as was his way, made it nervy viewing for his fans at the end, but the victory in Suzuka, even as a kid, was a truly emotional moment, made up for the heartbreak I suffered a few weeks before when a great Limerick team had lost the All-Ireland Hurling Final. It was looking like a promising future of sport for me at that time. 1996 truly was a glorious year, but as it was, all my heroes fell by the wayside. Damon's career declined, Limerick embarked on a barren spell they still haven't emerged from, and while even at a young age I could see that Thomas Castaignede, the French rugby outhalf, played far sexier rugby than anyone in an Irish shirt could ever imagine, he was to last but another year or two at the top before a bad injury at the 1999 World Cup effectively destroyed his career.

The last truly great F1 season for me was 2000. A fantastic comeback by Mika Hakkinen spelled a true clash of the titans, and Spa Francorchamps that year was an epic battle. Since then it's been a pretty barren decade on a lot of counts

Let's hope the 2010s will be better! :)

Lopper, you read my mind :p

1996 it is. I was so tempted to say 2000 but the Hill fan inside me would never forgive ;)! So 1996 with 2000 a close second.

Lopper, I would disagree about 2000 being the last great, 2003 has to be up there. A 3 way battle, a slightly more reliable Mclaren for Kimi could have clinched it, then again, a slightly more reliable and composed Montoya also could have taken it.

Id have to say 1997 - it was my first full season watching it, and although I didnt get the Schuey win I was looking for, it was still a Mega season - 2000 though is a very close 2nd, but yup since then, we have had OK seasons, but nothing that sticks out as a favorite!

2013 - Nando must come through..

Only started watching F1 in 2001, so not really much experience ;)

2003 has to be my favorite, great championship and some great races (Brazil!, Great Britain,...), closely followed by 2008 (nobody seemed to want to win the championship!)

The dullest for me has been 2007: very exciting championship, but horribly boring racing overall.

i have many, though in order 2003,2005,2007 are my top 3, funny how they are 2 years apart from each other. 2009 will not be in that list lol.

A lot of people here are going for it, so I guess there is a case to argue there, for some reason though 2000 sticks out a lot more in my mind, despite the fact that it is three years further back. To be honest, if you're arguing for 2003, you could possibly put a claim forward for 2005 too, that was a decent enough year I thought. Wouldn't put them on the level of 2000 though. :)

my favourite is 2000 although 98, 99 and 2000 together are an awesome era. imo 2000 wouldn't be as good as it was without 98 an 99. on a close second and third comes 95 and 96.

Of the recent seasons, it has to be 2000 for me. Easily.

We had a great combination of old-style, new-style, high-speed and technical circuits, which(partly due to favourable weather conditions) produced some absolutely awesome races. The races at Hockenheim, Spa, Indy and Suzuka in particular made absolutely electric viewing.
Plus, we had some great driver rivalries on the go, and a fantastic battle for the drivers' championship.

Yep, the 2000 season was truly something special.

However not a very exciting CS battle, 2001 was one of my favourite seasons. Lots of nice races, especially in the first half of the season.

2003 and 2005 were a lot better btw, and I have to say 2008 was great fun too.

2008 was a freak year for weather-related action and events. Between Monaco and Interlagos last year we had more upsets and unusual results in races due to rain than we'd usually get during 2-3 seasons. This did a lot to make up for the quality of driving amongst the title contenders, which was generally absolute guff.

But yeah, most of the races during the second half of 2008 were great fun to watch.

1999 will always be the year for me, the first year I think I watched every race, first season I really got caught up in F1

It had some of the most beautiful cars inmo ever in F1, Herbert's last win, Salo in a Ferrari, Irvine's first win, Mika's mistakes at Imola and Monza, Frentzen's best year, Hockenheim 1-2, Mangny Cours and Rubens getting his drive at Ferrari

Personally F1 has never been as exciting since then

I don't think I can really pick a 2nd choice, I loved 2000, was so happy when Schumi won the championship in Suzuka, Rubens first win was awesome and again some beautiful cars, the F-2000, EJ10 and B200 but loved the championship battle in 1998. Monza was epic with the 1-2 and 1997 was also a special year, my first watching F1 and actually being able to grasp what the hell was going on ;)

There were some great races that year too and even more great looking cars, the B197 and the F310/B. 2003 was also not a bad season as far as recent one's go, as has already been mentioned.

Races: 163 - Wins: 23 - Pole Positions: 24 - Fastest Laps: 22
Season 9: Constructors' Champions

yes, there was a incredibly long run of bizarre or controversial races in 2008 - all the way from Monaco to Interlagos (only except Shanghai really)

2008 was an enjoyable season because of this bizarre run of events where the championship contenders seemed to keep shooting themselves in the foot. This was quite similar to 1999 in a way - another great season.

There have been some very good seasons in the 2nd half of this decade, starting with 2005. Each season after that has had a good championship battle.

However, i think my favourite season is also 2003, although i only started closely following F1 in the mid-1990s. The fact that there were 3 teams in the championship hunt made it particularly good, whereas most other championship battles have only featured 2 teams.

1998,1999,2000,2003 and 2008. This season is also a very good one.

Good point SchueyFan about 2003. It was certainly a season I enjoyed at the time, and the one-shot quali format worked brilliantly, which was a significant factor in improving the racing and championship battle as well. And yeah, it was great to see 3 drivers from different teams fighting it out, as well as Jordan and Renault winning, and Kimi and Alonso coming of age.
But the Michelin controversy spoiled it towards the end somewhat.

As a Kimi fan, 2005. It was tough in places but made me super happy in others.

Couldn't agree more.
