What do you think of the new regulations?

Preseason testing gave us a glimpse of how the 2026 cars perform, but Australia showcased that while the cars are capable to overtake each other, the engines hold them back. Now, super clipping affects each team differently and this helps overtaking, the same issue also holds cars back from committing to an overtake, this has to be fixed as soon as possible, because this is such an artificial way of making close racing easier.

I really hoped they would remove that movable wing, and instead, they added another one

I hate this artificial F1 that needs buttons to overtake

True, and I remember when F1 proudly claimed the 2022 regulations will render DRS obsolete

Anyone can drive these 2026 cars now, even the Aston Martin kitchen chef can drive it. The new regs are utterly disgusting. Driver skill was killed, its Formula E on steroids

I need these new engines banned, I dont care if Audi leaves, I want V8/V10 back with full ICE engines and biodegradable fuel. No more batteries

The bigger issue is Cadillac, they are gonna introduce their engine 2 years later so FIA can’t just decide to change the rules in 5 years time as that would mean Cadillac spent all that money and time on a short-lived engine

I haven't watched any session just yet, only few clips like Colapinto s onboards... Looks bad, but predictable which is good for my bank account cos i can even easier bet on russell, lots of DNFs etc

F1 is apparently tampering with live telemetry so the drop off isn’t as obvious. Also there seems to be some form of censorship when the new rules are criticised by fans and/or drivers

Finally saw the recording of the aus gp (previous race) and this was worse than anything i could imagine in my life. Managed to sustain fist 10 or 12 before i couldn't stand it anymore...

'Battery wars' with people overtaking each other every lap seem fun at first (before they manage to get out of the battery reset/lag/gap I'd imagine), but it is artificial way to make entertainment as liberty was declaring since they acquired the sport. Their motto is 'People need entertainment, not boring competition or true sport' and this year i dont see myself watching this anymore. Thankfully i have some gp4 ai championships to follow on youtube (ff1m is the most delivering by far, highly reccomend), and my own fantasy championship once i'll have time for that...

Most fun observance for me was that now modern f1 is very very close to gp4 somehow. Anyone who saw enough of gp4 races can confirm that if md file has driver errors set to high values, you'll see lots of cars suddenly going twitchy which results them getting slower, hard breaking, slamming into one another or slightly going wide or out the track. Now the modern f1 engines manage to switch between electric and oldschool modes to catch drivers into uncomfortable moments. I saw qualy today and Bortoleto's crash was exactly like gp4 incident when car suddenly gets loose and this is simply cause modern engines are annoying to say the least. But those 1st rounds are good for my bank account tho. Betting on Mercs win and less than 17 cars finishing the race delivers for now.

tbh for the first time in what feels like forever, we’re not sitting here blaming tyres as the main issue which is actually a nice change.

BUT… I’ve got no idea what’s going on anymore. It’s just too technical. Like yeah, I get the basics “this car has X battery, this one has Y left” but then suddenly a car can just pull back over a second in like two corners and breeze past like the other guy is standing still, that’s not motorsport, no two ways about it. thats built for highlight clips and social media rather than what i have grown up with.

I get things like push-to-pass, KERS, all that, but this is way to much over the top. There’s barely any skill in some of these passes, as they say it is Mario Kart, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they quietly clamp down on this pretty quick.

Had a bit of a laugh watching quali in China too it did seem like the broadcast was cutting away from onboard shots right when super clipping was happening so it wasn’t as obvious.

And if China is meant to be a “good track” to show this tech off, I’m a bit worried. What’s this going to look like at Spa? Lifting through Eau Rouge to charge up the hill, then backing off halfway down Kemmel to save for the next section, down a gear through Pouhon at 70kph down from last year, that doesn’t sound great or a great look.

I’m actually kind of excited for Monaco. If it’s dry, this could end up being the most interesting Monaco race since what, ‘92?

What gets me is teams were calling this years ago (Red Bull, Ferrari, etc) and got told they were just fearmongering. Now here we are. I get Audi and GM have committed to this direction, but if fans start switching off and the bad press keeps building, the FIA will have to do something.

I’ll hold judgement for a few more races. But if it’s still like this by round 5 or 6, I reckon a lot more people than just me will start tuning out. And just like Max, more drivers will start sounding off and losing interest too.

If IndyCar don’t absolutely nail their marketing around the 500 and the championship this year, they’ve missed a trick.

IndyCar’s marketing has been a letdown for a long time. But yeah, tyres seem to be fine, it’s been two races but I hope we don’t see the situation where mediums last an entire race. Tracks like Monza and Baku will be critical, the straight in Las Vegas as well. Imagine if we had the season opener at the old Hockenheim
