Only 7 places left on the grid so who do we think is going to fill them?

Now that Ocon has just been confirmed at Force India for 2017, that just leaves 6 places. 2 seats each at Haas, Manor and Sauber.

Kevin Magnussen was confirmed at Haas this week (just before Palmer was confirmed at Renault)

He hasn't been officially confirmed. The rumors state he has signed but neither driver at Haas has been official announced. Gene Haas said the full announcement will happen at the Brazilian GP.

Grosjean and K-mag confirmed. You know where.

It's only after we've lost everything, that we are free to do anything.

LOL I always noticed that. Clearly my 2016 wasn't up to scratch!

Ron Dennis leaves McLaren.

Ridiculous decision, one which will soon be regretted. I hate to say it but I think we just witnessed the death of McLaren.

That remains to be seen.

If I've learnt one thing in the last decade it's that F1's old guard of McLaren, Williams & Ferrari no longer reign in this sport.

Red Bull and latterly Mercedes have effectively relvolutionised the way to develop and operate a F1 team. These two teams are going to dominate for the future and the reasons are thus.

Ferrari are mired in internal politics (never a good state to be in).
McLaren have cottoned on... but are years behind both Red Bull and Mercedes. They ought to catch up eventually.
Renault are effectively at the beginning of their era. Renault as an organisation have a habit of getting things right in F1 but they're even further behind McLaren.
Williams simply lack the resources to compete and unless they can sure a massive partner or works cooperation... they'll forever be a midfielder.

Sauber has confirmed Marcus Ericsson will remain at the team for 2017.

Sauber will announce Ericsson's 2017 teammate "in due course". Felipe Nasr, who scored two valuable points for the team in Brazil, is yet to be signed for another season with the team.

No German grand prix, but there are already rumours that Imola could be replacing it.

I really hope this is true, I love Imola but I haven't really connected with the Hock' since it was neutered by Tilke. I think Germany should use the Nurburgring instead, it's a much better circuit.

With all that money floating about you'd think the government, or Mercedes, or VW would be able to sanction an event there.

Same feelings about Hockenheim, the way the track is since 2002 it's no big loss not having it on the calendar. No big fan of the Nürburgring either with the Arena section though, but still better than Hock.

Our government has more important things to blow our money on, like the new Berlin airport or Stuttgart 21. Don't see VW sanctioning anything F1 related, they've USA things to worry about.

Nurburgring can´t afford the race (who owns the track now btw?) and with Hockenheim having lost all of its character I guess its logic that people lost all interest in it.

I hope the Imola rumours are true, though.

Also and regarding Austria GP, it was mentioned some time ago that Red Bull could add the old Osterreichring loop to the track, but idk what happened with that.

There was talk that the Osterreichring was being actively developed during the Austria GP weekend, but from the helicopter shots that weekend I saw nothing which suggested any recent work.

I've always quite liked the current A1/RB Ring layout. It's simple and short, and obviously pales compared to the Osterreichring, but that exact layout would be terrible these days. F1 has too many tracks of 1:30+ seconds, and it's nice to have a quick burst through the Austrian hills - without wanting to go all Sound of Music on the forum, it makes it feel much more alive than the honking great big boredromes the rest of the calendar is made up of. The same goes for Montreal in that regard.

Laps around the 1:40 second mark used to be the sole preserve Spa and Suzuka, and I think that led to a little of the balliness factor they had. Now all these modern contraptions are sprouting up they all seem to be over 1:30 seconds and I think that's a small part of the reason that Spa and Suzuka have lost a little of their sparkle - quite a bit of sparkle in the former's case.

Is there any word on whether or not Rosberg will run the #1 in 2017 should he win the title? Or will he do what Hamilton did and stick with his #6? Hamilton will most certainly continue to use his #44 should he win, but not so sure about Rosberg. IMO, the champion should always run the #1 as it doesn't feel the same when it's not being used.
