Aren't you taking a lot for granted that Brazil will get out of their group? A well-drilled Portugal side will take Brazil to pieces. Ivory Coast are no pushovers either, and they're playing on African soil, in a climate that will suit them down to the ground.

Brazil will not win their group. They'll face Spain in the second round, and lose.

I'm not so sure that France will make to the 1/4 finals, they had a lot of luck to even get to the world cup. And of course, I would rather see Slovenia instead of the USA in top 16.

Been hearing so much on Radio 1 about the "favourable England draw" in recent days, it's been sending me to sleep TBH. If they're as good as their fans think they are, they should be able to beat whoever they end up drawn against, yeah?

Anyway, regarding the World Cup itself, I'm really looking forward to this one. I'm not a football fan but I still get into the big events like this, the buzz about them is awesome.

England need a "favourable draw" because they need time to settle. They aren't like some of the other teams in that they can just turn up and play. Quite frankly, they're not that good - but if they can play a few matches together and win them at a canter, it will give them the extra ingreduient which will take them to the level of teams like Brazil, Spain, etc. who are expected to be strong from the get-go.

I'm going to find a bookie who's willing to open bets on Brazil failing to reach the Quarter-Finals. I'll be a rich man.

So being from South Africa and being a rugby, cricket, Formula 1, athletics and golf fan and NOT really interested in football, I absolutely cannot wait for the 12th of July, or whatever the first day after the final's date is.

Don't get me wrong, I like watching European soccer when it's on. But the way the people in this country are perceiving it - like it will change the country forever - is bordering on insanity and everyone gets blamed if they do not buy tickets etc. In reality, this country will be in more debt afterwards than all of the so-called football community members realise at this moment.

And those silly ads, all the freakin time. I am not even watching tv anymore as a result.

Very well said.

I think there are some teams that struggled to enter the cup but they are going to have a very good level in the cup, like France or Argentina.
Argentina has a lot of stars but they are not a team, they are 11 players... They struggled to enter because they had never found a way to play... 78 different players played for argentina in the eliminatories!! And entered 4th... They are making the same things that they made in 1986... Could be champ in 2010?

Yeah, if I hear 'Ayoba' one more time, I'll wana ayoba in my pants!

But the others as well, e.g. those where everyone, says 'I was there, I saw legends being made' and all that yada.

Btw CLR, is that a clue that you may be from here too?

Something like that. Yeah, I've mentioned it once or twice around here in the past too.

But getting back to the WC, Ho3n3r, I'd have to agree with you, the hype and expectation being generated is highly likely to exceed what the tournament can actually be able to deliver, even in the best case scenario. I'm not sure about how much of a difference it's made to previous hosting countries, but I really don't think it's the sort of "overnight change" that it's being billed as.

That's pretty much guaranteed IMO.

And sorry to have missed the fact that you mentioned you are from here. I wasn't all that active on here until recently, and only registered 2 years ago. But nice to know. Just wish SABC would show F1 again it as I can't afford DSTv atm.

So Maradonna came to SA this week. Turns out there were more fans at the airport for him than there was for our 2007 Rugby World Cup winning team. Sadly.
