A matter of days after the west London football club denied the story, it now appears certain that Renault boss Flavio Briatore has bought Queens Park Rangers.

Widespread reports last week said the 57-year-old Italian was in talks about a $50m deal.

British tabloid The Sun on Friday quotes QPR chairman Gianni Paladini and a spokesman for Briatore as confirming the news, with the deal set to be completed early next week.

"It's a dream come true for QPR fans and saves this club from liquidation," Paladini said. "Mr Briatore wants to do for QPR what Mohamed Fayed has for Fulham and turn us into a Premier League club.
"

Briatore's spokesman said : "Mr Briatore is looking forward to being involved with English football. QPR is a club with a rich history and fine future now."

If I was to use my GPL technique :P
Well, I don't think I'll even bother trying to contact anyone about a tryout there. I'd have to get myself a flight to the UK, find a place to stay and get to the stadium to practice. But that would be the easiest bit of all... can't see them bothering to give anyone a tryout

Scotland? QPR is in London mate...

i think you thought he'd bought Glasgow Rangers, that is in Scotland :)

still, would have been funny if you'd turned up in Glasgow looking for QPR, you'd get battered.

Made a small mistake, then, thought that club was in Scotland. As far as I know it is the oldest footy team in the world, and maybe even Alex Ferguson commanded it?

Your thinking of Queen of the South
Ferguson managed East Sterling and Aberdeen
Sheffield F.C is the oldest footy club iirc

I still think it's a very large amount he paid for such a small club. Maybe that amount includes a healthy transfer budget and ownership of that sweet stadium?

The stadiums not even that good imo
Suprised he didn't go for someone like Southampton.
The Italian ownership obviously a factor.

I heard on Radio 1 news today that Briatore was thinking of buying the club with a few friends of his.

Gui, it seems you were a bit premature to report his purchase if they're only today reporting it as "might buy".

This takeover was overshadowed today by the sad news that Ray Jones, a QPR player, was killed in car crash. :(

shame about the young Spanish player who died after a heart attack, he was only 22: [news.bbc.co.uk]

and another player died a year or two ago, collapsed on the pitch, then there was Marc Vivien Foe of Manchester City who also died on the pitch a few years before that.

crazy isn't it, these guys are the very examples of fitness and health, and they can still have heart attacks and die. what hope is there for the rest of us?

of course these incidents are very very rare so it shouldn't put off everyone else from exercise, but still, makes you think huh?
