24 million.
I don't think there is something wrong with henry. I think he just left because he knows that Arsène Wenger is also maybe gonna leave arsenal for barcelona.

It was 16 million, and Arsenal needed the money. Plus they have van Persie, although they'll NEED another striker before the season starts if they are to have any chance of challenging for the title.

It's not a bad price considering he's past his best. He's still awesome though and I hope he does well there. He certainly gave the EPL a lot of excitement over the years, remember the season Arsenal went un-beaten? They were great to watch!

What about Bent goin' to Tottenham for £16.5m? Heck of a lot to pay but I like the way Jol likes to buy British.

The thing with some transfers is many players have a minimum-price clause so as much as a team doesn't want to sell a player they have to allow him to go for a certain fee. Happens all the time with Brazilian players leaving to Europe, and also the reason why you see many guys with unreasonable contracts, which have to provide a large wage so it can stipulate a high minimum value for the transfer. Ronaldinho Gaúcho has one of about 150 million dollars or Euros, for example.

We dont have minimum-price release clauses much over here, the only one I know of is Owen. Henry said he wanted to leave and Arsenal let him, its as simple as that.

Minimum fee release clause I think is the correct term.

TC, that's another point. If the player wants out, the best option is to let him go while making a few millions off the transfer. Not too good to keep an unhappy player around. Not that it would have come to it because of the relationship with Arsenal/Wenger that Henry has, but we have seen how a team can lose a bunch of money if the coach decides to be a prick towards the player with the whole Ronaldo/Capello issue. Milan had offered 15 million Euros for him in the pre-season and Real refused it, then Capello started working his "magic" as he took Real Madrid down he also managed to drive players away.

Ridiculously :P

It's mandatory in Brazil for a while now due to the tremendous exodus of very young players for no money at all.

Yup, the last 2 posts sum it up exactly. IMHO Brazilian football transfers are ridiculous... not because they are stupid, but because they are completely out of kilter with the rest of the World. Nowhere else on the planet, for example, can you legally enforce a contract against a 15-year-old player, which means that he cannot be bought or sold.

I wouldn't trust FM too much with the rules (though it's database is great... you can research a player you think is joining your club, and in reality, they are normally a spitting image...). In the English Championship you're supposed to be allowed more than 2 players at any 1 point (it's at least 4 looking at last season), but in FM2007 7.02 you couldn't have more than 2 at any 1 point (well, I couldn't). It's normally a wealth of information, and usually annoyingly accurate, but the implementation of some rules can be a little lacking.

I love seeing transfers that I don't like getting turned down because of work permit issues ;)

I just don't get Barça... 4 fowards... damn

I'd see Henry as a striker, Messi and Eto'o behind him and then Ronaldinho a bit more closer to midfielders

but... I really don't get the point of having those 4 fowards, they could have find a better midfielder... I dunno...

There are rumors of Eto'o leaving so they just want to get stronger

Plus, all 4 of them aren't going to play every match. They've got backup. But yeah, problems may arise with the strong left-footed-ness of that setup.

Maybe Barça will switch to a very offensive 4-4-2 or even a 4-2-2-4 (not to say 4-2-4). Here's to hoping for it!

Arsenal doesn't have a chance! Chelsea is stronger than last year. Man Utd is stronger than last year. Liverpool is stronger than last year. Arsenal is weaker than last year. Simple: Arsenal doesn't have a chance.

I absolutely agree with you unless they manage to get another decent striker in. :) Slightly OT... Liverpool! Fernando Torres is an awesome player who deserves a big slice of spotlight... with their recent idea of striker rotation, they'd best give him his due share!
