Wayne Rooney

So, the scan results have come back and the news is big - Wayne Rooney is fit for the World Cup!

Personally, I foresee that this will bring doom upon the England squad. Sven is likely to depend far too heavily on him and he clearly isn't ready, he shouldn't even be there at all.

I had hoped the England team would be able to come together to be stronger without Rooney, but now it looks like they're going to have to compromise their true potential and make allowances for a big name who isn't ready to play yet.

But here's hoping it doesn't all end in disappointment...

I think he is ready. Man Utd were involved and if he really wasn't fit then Alex Ferguson would of made sure he wasn't back on that plane.

Match sharpness is another thing though, not having played for a while now he might struggle but I reckon he will sit out the first game anyway and just work on his fitness.

In some ways you're right. Seeing interviews later, looking at the players I was getting the impression that constantly being asked about Rooney, and how he was vital was taking it's tole on the guys, perhaps making them believe that without Rooney they can't do well in the world cup, and that is a dangerous way to be going. What is it with out media, no wonder Scolari turned down the England job.

Although i agree with what you are saying, when Beckham came back after his foot injury he didn't look strong for the most part
