Dallara. But not one of the original proposals. Some sort of weird interchangeable thing. Wat.

Right.

Dallara builds the chassis. The chassis is called the IndyCar Safety Cell, and includes the chassis and suspension. Anyone else, builds the bodywork, providing multiple cars and entries on the same chassis.

Up to 6 Cylinder 2.4L Turbos.

Thanks Dave, cleared that up for me! Sounds quite good then...

Body kits will be called at $70k each, and must be available to anyone who wants one. The first 28 chassis sold will recieve a $100,000 discount. Cost of the chassis (before discount) is $350,000. Half of the current car.

The IndyCar Series will undergo its biggest change in recent history, after it was announced that teams will be allowed to introduce their own aerodynamics, wings and bodywork to a new spec-Dallara chassis from 2012.

Good.

The new rules, unveiled today, will mean that although IndyCar will remain a single-chassis formula.

Even better.

Does anyone know who broadcasts IRL in the UK? I've been getting into it over the last couple of months, but I've only been reading news reports and highlights videos. I'd really like to watch the full races, if that's possible!

Streams usually come up on the day. If I'm ever online during a race and have one, I'll post it.

harjinator, I watch the races at www.indycar.com, you just have to register.

I just don't know if it's blocked in the UK. Also brazillian site www.terra.com.br broadcast it on internet, but with brazillian anouncers (and I think it is only avaiable at Brazil).

But give it a try on this two sites...

The IndyCar.com stram has it's own director. It's usually the track feed and is terrible. The UK/US streams are much better.

The more I think about the 2012 concept, the more I like it.

The only issue I see is we have Penske with more money than the rest. They can simply pour the money into CFD and tunnel time and either get their own aero package or optimise a bought package...

i may have misunderstood, but i think the idea is that if they were to do that, then they'd also have to offer the package they'd developed to the other teams at a set price.

Your probably right then! Ive only briefly read whats happened. If that being the case then things are looking good.

The other thing I understand is swift etc can make the aero packages for the Dallara car, but Dallara will also supply the aero package. Which leads me to thnk, why wouldnt you chose the complete Dallara package? You have to persume it will be the best and coupled with their own car ...

From what I gatherd, the car is not shipped with the standard Dallara package. It only comes with the "IndyCar Safety Cell", which is chassis and suspension. The aero package is a completely different purchase. Is it confirmed Dallara are making a package?

So why would Penske develop their own then? ;-)

Lotus interested already.. [www.autosport.com]

I'm fairly sure Penske will make their own package too, so should be good.
